RonL21 Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 I thought this Frank Luntz Pollster was an Independent. How can you pick out people that are 80% sure Palin won? Isn't he the dude who creates all the Republican buzzwords like "climate change" and "death tax?" He does polls on Fox, right? Their results were similar for the Obama-McCain debate. Their audience is mostly conservative. We all know that. Yea. I was sure when he asked "Who here thought Governor Palin won?" only a couple hands would go up. Damn near everyone raised their hand and pretty much said "It was like she was talking to the middle class."
Firestarter Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 A guy on CNN just nailed what I think to a tee. She helped herself...but not McCain. Biden was pretty much given 90 minutes to rip McCain apart, and Palin didn't make Obama seem like a "risky" choice at all. If anything, coming out of this debate...I feel like Obama is the safer choice and McCain (and he's done himself no favors by picking Palin, suspending his campaign, voting for the pork filled bailout plan) is the one who just doesn't "get it" ...actually, I think that's a pretty dumbass interpretation.
SuperJerk Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 I think I might watch trhe replay on CNN so I can follow their Lower-Screen Bullshitometer.
Cherry Blossom Viscount Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 I don't expect this debate to change many minds in the long run. The story is that Palin exceeded the extremely low expectations set for her. Her just showing up is basically a victory in the minds of the pundits. Face it, Sarah Palin could have defecated on herself and the talking point would be; "By displaying an amazing loss of bowel control, Sarah Palin has made herself more relateable to the average American, who due to their atrocious eating habits also suffer frequent loss of bowel control. Senator Biden on the other hand, by retaining control of his bodily functions has furthered the elitist agenda of the Obama campaign by showing to millions of Americans that he will not stoop to their level by defecating on himself." "And to add to that, I just want to say I was disturbed and disgusted that Joe Biden did not get on his knees and lick the excrement of Palin off the floor with his tongue. This shows a total lack of respect for women. And you know, that doesn't surprise me seeing that he is on a ticket with a man with terrorist connections and closet Muslim himself. This can only help Sarah Palin and John McCain."

I thought he was an Independent. I did think he came across as anti-Obama though.
MarvinisaLunatic Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 I dont see the VP debate as the chance to talk about the Presidential Candidates, they have almost 5 hours of debates to talk about themselves. These two needed to put out more of a message about themselves and not just repeat 90% of what you heard last friday and what you will hear in the next 2 debates.

SuperJerk Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 She's not a details person at all, and she'll still dance around the question without giving a real answer, but this time she'll deflect attention away from her non-answers by attacking Democrats. I was only half right. She deflected attention away from non-answers by talking about oil and taxes.
Firestarter Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 Well now I know I'm right. <raises eyebrows> Oh do explain. Is that you, BPS? So when did you start hating me, and did you have a reason, or did you just follow the crowd?

And that's my go to.
Firestarter Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 Yeah, I'm sure this is hilarious from a liberal perspective. eh, I suppose I shouldn't expect anything more than shit-jokes out of you people.

The Ghost of bps21 Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 Oh please, I'd have said the same thing no matter who responded. My convictions run roughly as deep as the next thing that comes into my head.
naiwf Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 CNN survey scores it 51% to 36% for Biden.
SuperJerk Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 Someone just made a good point on MSNBC...Palin talked about how it was wrong to focus on "the past" regarding the Bush Administration, but the Bush Administration isn't over yet and Bush will still be president for another 4 months.
The Ghost of bps21 Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 She used the not caring about the past idea in the Kouric interview about global warming. I don't quite get how understanding the cause of problems is a bad thing when searching for a solution... But McCain tried to do the same thing with Iraq in the first debate.
SuperJerk Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 People usually only say "let's not play the blame game" when it's their fault.
Lord of The Curry Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 Canadian Perspective (which means nothing): Palin just got Jowned. She had ZERO retort to Biden bringing up McCains track record of voting, use way too much slang and seemed very uncomfortable/nervous the majority of the debate. Biden fighting back tears AND saying that he's praying for Palin's son in Iraq sealed the deal.
Nightwing Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 I thought it was funny for her to do that and then talk about how Biden voted for the war. Excellent use of selective memory.
Firestarter Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 Biden fighting back tears AND saying that he's praying for Palin's son in Iraq sealed the deal. This.
Lord of The Curry Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 Watching it with my two roommates when Biden brought up Palin's son we did the "OHHHHHHHHHHHH" reaction. That's some straight-up G shit.
RonL21 Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 Dick Morris with the "I havent seen anything like this since Reagan" regarding this Palin slam dunk victory.
Jobber of the Week Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 I thought this Frank Luntz Pollster was an Independent. How can you pick out people that are 80% sure Palin won? Luntz is not an independent. He had the same guy who supported the same candidate appear in more than one focus group, and he's generally associated with the right wing. He's associated with a casino boss here and a biography I was reading about the industry mentions that he's often hired by Republican-leaning industries for market research purpose. Frank Luntz is why our Wynn hotel is named what it is, Steve Wynn wanted "Le Réve" originally but Luntz told him it polled better to name it after himself. Canadian Perspective (which means nothing): Palin just got Jowned. She had ZERO retort to Biden bringing up McCains track record of voting, use way too much slang and seemed very uncomfortable/nervous the majority of the debate. Biden fighting back tears AND saying that he's praying for Palin's son in Iraq sealed the deal. Meanwhile, the future of your own country was being debated on other channels.
Lord of The Curry Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 I don't think even the most ardent Republican could consider this slam-dunk for Palin. At best proved she could tread deep water without totally drowning.
