Richard 0 Report post Posted August 8, 2005 "The first sin was being a part of this military. If this young man had a clue and any fear of God, he would have run, and not walked, from this military," said protester Shirley Phelps-Roper. "Who would serve a nation that is godless and has flipped off, defiantly defied, defiantly flipped off, the Lord their God?" http://news.yahoo.com/s/kmbc/20050805/lo_kmbc/2866367
Masked Man of Mystery 0 Report post Posted August 8, 2005 I sort of wish these folks would go and live on a small island by themselves, but they have their right, nutzoid as they are

Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted August 8, 2005 Like I said before, they're still pissing in the wind, but now they're pissing on the people in the other direction, which is just incredible. Conservatives have always been somewhere between "feh" and "oh, screw those guys" when it comes to Westboro Baptist, but now Phelps is taunting them, too. You disrespect people for serving in the military, and you're going to have the O'Reillys and Hannitys and More Patriotic Than Thou types on your ass. Which is kind of funny, because I picture this big curbstomp where the Gay Activist crowd and the FreeRepublic/MikeSC/Fiercely Pro-Military crowd work together in the beat down. DangerousDamon 0 Report post Posted August 8, 2005 Fuck these people, its one thing to be against the war, but there are men and women dying everyday over there, and you have to respect anyone who is risking their lives for the sake of our country
CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted August 8, 2005 I have a similar argument every November with my buddy who's an atheist hippy. He calls me a war-monger for wearing a poppy, and my response is always the same, and it applies perfectly here: Don't hate the soldier, it's his/her job. Whether or not we agree with the reason they're in battle, they really have no say in it. They go through hardship and terror that you or I can't even imagine. The least we could do is respect them. And in any situation, to say God would or wouldn't like it, is, at best, self righteous.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted August 8, 2005 They aren't against the war. They're against the government, and really America in general, for pretty much anything that gives gays rights of any kind.

DMann2003 0 Report post Posted August 9, 2005 It's nice for once to see athread in the CE forum where everyone will agree- Fred Phelps is a self-rightous egomaniacal nutjob.

Since the poppy is a WWI symbol, I take this as him being supportive of the Kaiser? He probably thought WWII wasn't a necessary war either. Either that or he's an idiot with no knowledge of even Grade 2 history.

NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted August 10, 2005 I still don't get why "gay" is treated as some type of ultimate sin by evangelicals. I mean I am no bible scholar, however, correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't the bible say that all sin is equal, there is no "level of sin" so should Phelps and the gang be protesting casinos and red lobster just as much as gay funerals? It's the Adam & Eve not Adam & Steve argument. Being gay is not natural because God designed man to lay down with woman for the idea of procreation and continuing humanity. Homosexuality is a choice that they make, for a man to lay down with another man or two women to do the same is supposedly an insult to God. It's the ultimate kind of perversity that goes against "God's Plan." However, I know God is laughing His head off and the Rev. Phelps will be up for quite the rude awakening come his day to be judged before Him.
