DMann2003 0 Report post Posted August 9, 2005 I've been to a few indy shows before (HWA), and I was told about the pre-show dinner by KNK. Just wondering do they sell ROH DVD's at the shows, what guys should I look out for. I'm really looking forward to this.
Guest JebusNassedar Report post Posted August 9, 2005 Ask a man in a Green Lantern jersey if CM Punk is awesome or what.
Guest xSarahx Report post Posted August 9, 2005 I think you got your dates mixed up. 8/12 is Dayton and 8/13 is Chicago. Yeah, they sell DVD's at the shows. Here's the card so far: ROH World Title Four Way Elimination Match ROHWorld Champion CM Punk vs. ROH Pure Champion Samoa Joe vs. Christopher Daniels vs. James Gibson Main Event #2 Matt Hardy vs. Homicide Six Man War Austin Aries, Roderick Strong & Matt Sydal vs. Jimmy Rave, Alex Shelley & Abyss with Prince Nana ROH Tag Title Match Champions BJ Whitmer & Jimmy Jacobs defend vs. Nigel McGuinness & Chad Collyer Grudge Match Low Ki vs. Jay Lethal The Four Way for the title should be really interesting. It's the second to last ROH appearance for Punk before he leaves for WWE. All four guys are awesome wrestlers and that should be a great match. James Gibson = Jamie Noble and he has really shined in ROH. Joe, Punk, and Daniels are all indie superstars and this is easily match of the night. Hardy doesn't really need an explanation but his pairing with Homicide is interesting. Homicide can brawl, mat wrestle, fly, pretty much anything. This will be interesting with the crowd reaction. Homicide is a big time heel, but facing Hardy in a ROH ring, I'm interested to see if he doesn't get more of a babyface reaction. Austin Aries and Roderick Strong are two members of Generation Next and both are excellent wrestlers. Alex Shelley is also really good. Prince Nana is the leader of The Embassy and is hilarious at ringside. Jimmy Rave is the "crown jewel" of the Embassy and is getting pretty good. Nigel McGuinness is one of my favorite guys in ROH. If you're into the European style, Nigel is one of the best on the US indie scene right now. Granted, not everyone likes him, but I really enjoy his work. I think he'll be snagged by WWE in the future. Low Ki is also one of the best on the indie scene and Jay Lethal is really coming into his own lately. Have a good time, this should be a pretty good show.
B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted August 9, 2005 I'll be at the Dayton and Chicago shows this weekend and am rather jacked. I believe that Spanky is taking on Cabana in Dayton now as well. PLus, I'm really looking forward to Homicide killing Hardy.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted August 9, 2005 Make sure to mark out like a bitch anytime Nigel McGuiness does something. He'll think I'm at the show
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2005 At least mark out for Nigel's music
Kaertos 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2005 Nigel is awesome. My wife is considering going to the show only because Nigel will be there. We saw him a bunch of times when HWA still did shows in Dayton.
DMann2003 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2005 I've got disposable income, what are some good ROH dvd's, I've only got one, Era of Honor Begins, looking to get about 2-3 DVD's at the show, do they have any deals?
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2005 They have deals all the time at ROHWrestling.com I would get Manhattan Mayhem since it was a great show and everyone raves about it.
DMann2003 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2005 Any comp DVD's (Best of's) worth getting?
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2005 Depends on who and what you like. I'm sure the Punk and AJ comps are good. The Best of Evans is if you like spotty scrambles and the like. Best of Homicide has all his matches from 03 that people raved about.
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2005 Nowhere to Run was a hell of a show. Punk and Rave in the steel cage was just great.
Guest JebusNassedar Report post Posted August 12, 2005 The only best of set that actually is the best of (blank) is their recent Generation Next set. It has the 5/22 tags, the 6/12 tag, and one of the two other kick ass matches on Joe/Punk II. Only the Shelley/Hydro single's match, though. Best of Joe Vol. 2 has both the cage match, AND the sadly ignored match with Romero. That thing was so great.
DMann2003 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2005 Well, now that the show's over, and everyone knows the results, I have to say what a fantastic night it was. I'm definetely going back in January, and was surprised we got a title change in the Main. Knowing Punk was going to Chicago made me think they might wait till then, but I consider myself lucky to have seen that match (and WHAT a match!) in my first live ROH experience. Naturally I picked up a few shows to see more of the product, I bought "Bitter Friends, Stiffer Enemies" "War of the Wire" "World Title Classic" "Joe vs Punk II" "Manhattan Mayhem"
B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2005 IT was a great show, DMann. And GODDAMN was the ending to the main event awesome. And I totally lost my voice heckling Todd Sinclair for his shenanigans during the Generation Next/Embassy battle, plus singing the praises of Jimmy Rave and Nana.
