WWE PREVENTING BUBBA RAY & DVON DUDLEY FROM USING NAME

By: Bob Ryder

8/26/2005 3:37:16 PM

WWE is apparently preventing Bubba Ray & DVon Dudley from using those names now that they have left WWE.

The announcement on the Wrestle Reunion website that they will be involved in that show refers to them as "Team 3D". The Hardcore Homecoming website has a picture of them on the main page announcing their involvement in upcoming shows, but does not refer to them by name.

Our sources tell us when they left ECW they were assured by Paul Heyman that they could have rights to the name, but that they never filed for trademark protection. WWE has trademarks on Bubba Ray Dudley and D-Von Dudley as well as Dudley Boyz.

August 26, 2005 - You remember the moments like they were yesterday. King Kong Bundy squashing the midget. Hulk and Andre. Hulk and Warrior. Hulk and Rock. Rock and Austin. Not to mention the special guests like L.T. (what a man!), The Fridge, and Mike Tyson.

Well, on Tuesday, November 1, wrestling fans will be able to relive these classic moments when WWE releases the first-ever complete Wrestlemania DVD collection titled "Wrestlemania: The Complete Anthology". Beginning with Wrestlemania 1 in 1985 and working its way up to 2005, the set contains four individual, 5-disc digi-packs with each containing 5 years of Wrestlemania.

The set will include a DVD photo gallery, four collectible cards each featuring famous Wrestlemania moments, not to mention, this is the first time Wreslemania's 1-14 have ever been on DVD.

Wrestlemania: The Complete Anthology will retail for $279.95 and looks like a must-own for any hardcore WWE fan.

Hate to hear it for both The Dudleyz and Kurt, and I hope to God that those DVDs will come seperate because there's no way in hell, I'm paying damn near $300 for that.

They should have known not to listen to Paul Heyman when it comes to a business move.

It sucks for Kurt but he had his chance to save his marriage but he has always been a workaholic and will never stop.

That box set looks nice but pretty big box...

This obviously explains Angle's new aggression the last several weeks ;)

And the rape angle. He didn't get any anymore at home.

WWE shouldn't have released a WrestleMania Box Set until they found a way to show previous mentions of WWF and the WWF scratch logo to go unedited; otherwise, can you imagine the amount of blurring -- 3+ hours worth for each DVD -- we have to endure when we want to watch WrestleMania 14,15,16,17, and 18?

UGH.

It's a good thing no one wants to watch those 5, then. ;P

I wonder how WM 17 - 20 will be handled on the set. The article says there will be four sets, with each set containing five discs. Basic math indicates that there will be one disc for each WM. However, the original releases of WM 16 - 20 had the PPV spread across two discs. I hope they're not going to cram those events into one disc, because it will mean a big drop in picture quality.

I'm just glad the Bret Hart DVD isn't going to have one single, solitary blur on it; it will surely be an immaculate retrospective of one of the all-time greats.

I don't understand how blurs can be annoying or a problem for anyone

There's no possible way you can be distracted by it.

People just like to nitpick.

The blurs haven't been a big problem for me at all. Nor the sometimes dropping of the WWF letters.

As for that box set...YES, I'm getting it.

I wonder if they're going to clip them up. Plus, if it's 20 discs, what about WM21? Otherwise, the box should read 1985-2004.

It's the complete anthology from 1985 to 2005. It's a semantic point, but justifies their use of "complete".

Another thing about this box set...

They better include the Mania V Piper's Pit on the Mania V disk...unlike the tape I currently have of it.

I've wanted to see that in full for the longest time now.

Which version of WM V do you have? I have the VHS set released in '97, and all of the WMs seem to be uncut (except XI, which is the "Encore Plus" version).

I really hate when WWE won't let someone use a name. It's not like we're still in the era of dueling promotions.

Angle divorcing his wife really, really surprises me. She probably couldn't take it anymore of him putting his health in jeopardy.

Seperation is different then a divorce, but it generally leads to divorce regardless.

It's pretty common in professional wrestling to see this occur, some wives cant adjust to their husbands being on the road 300 days a year. Only a handful of the wives/gf's are able to tour along with them, while Karen Angle was a beautiful girl who could have gotten a job very easily for WWE but she never showed interest.

I wonder if Kurt will look back and wonder if losing his wife and continuing to risk potentially further destroy his neck and body was worth it.

Why should TNA get to benifit and reap the potential rewards of WWE's property (they do own the names).

It's business and legal tactics here.

WWE is completely right to not allow The Dudleyz to use the name in TNA.

You can make an arguement that they should be allowed to use the name in independents and i believe Vince does allow that as long as it's not in major capacity.

The team formerly known as The Dudleyz shouldn't trusted Paul Heyman and trademarked the name before they signed with WWF in 1999.

I would've had no problem with the edit on the Wrestlemania: Legacy VHS Box Set, except for the fact it is on the back of the WM V cover art!

I'm guessing it'll be on there though.

Can't they just called themselves The Dudleys or Dudleyz or The Dudley Boys. If Vince can get away with Tazz and Rhyno, I don't see how The Dudleys can't do it by changing a letter.

I don't think the Tazz and Rhyno things were ever official different gimmicks or whatever, just something lame Vince thought up. I think Taz was changed to avoid potential lawsuits due to the cartoon character and Rhino was changed just to be lame.

What was that rumor about Angle being the guy that knocked up Dawn Marie? Was that remotely true?

And yes, the blurring stuff is awful. I think it makes the shows unwatchable personally.

I think he changed them to Tazz and Rhyno to make it easier to trademark.

The guy who knocked up Dawn is her current boyfriend. I don't think he's a name or anything.

Yes, the blurs are a major distraction for me, especially when every fucking turnbuckle, shirt, logo, the ring apron, and the referee's shirt are blurred. It tarnishes what would otherwise be very pristine picture quality.

It's like watching Sin City on DVD and having to endure major, glaring blurs around, in, on, Jessica Alba, or Bruce Willis, when he finally sees her shaking her nubile hips and titillating whip.

It even bothers me more when I realize a bunch of Pandas were able to put one over Vince because he was such a fucking douche.

For 300 dollars, I want superb, unblemished picture quality. Is that so much to ask!? You guys should stand up to this shit, because it's not acceptable, yet you swallow everything Vince McMahon has to offer. And Happily so.

Let's see...

Either keep the deteriorating quality of the tapes I have...

Or get a DVD set where the quality will be better, despite blurs.

...I think I'll go with the latter.

As for the blurs for the later ones...most likely I'll only be worrying about them in Mania 14...as I can easily get 15, 16, 17, 18, and 21 (I have 19 and 20) on DVD elsewhere.

All I have to say is, that if a movie studio tried to pull that shit with the movie-going public, they'd never see the light of day.

I guess wrestling fans have lower standards or something.

See, that's the thing though...

It's either never get a DVD set at all, or deal with the fact there's going to be blurring.

I doubt there's anyway that the Panda company will allow Vince to put out his stuff unblurred for whatever reason, seeing how he dicked with their agreement.

So it's either one or the other. And being someone who doesn't give two shits about something as minor as the blurring, as they mean in the long run nothing as long as all the segments and such are there, I'll get this.

Vince is just way too stubborn. If he paid Panda 15 million dollars or whatever they wanted, he could've kept the WWF name and never had to deal with this BS. Sure, it may seem like a lot of money, but in the long-run, it's probably worth it. Hell, I think Vince could've used it as a tax write-off, too.
