I whole heartedly think there will be worse shows this season. Head Cases, Hot Properties, that's just two off the top of my head.

Don't like the laugh track, but it's not as bad as other stuff we'll see this season...and it was funnier than the season premiere of the Simpsons. That was absolutely unfunny.

Oh, and Patrick Stewart is my new hero. "Do you have any Gatorade? I seem to have left all my electrolytes in your daughter."

The show has a lot of huge flaws, one of them simply being the comedy. I'm thinking they planned on having this show be without a laugh track, and then realized while producing the pilot that there was no way it'd work.

I like the actor who plays the son, but he's not right in this role. He's great while on Malcolm and All That because he plays everything eccentric and that's what he does well. He's just awful on the show, although most of the better jokes came from that story.

I don't see this lasting long at all, although I'm looking forward to next week's to see if it's worthwhile.

People at Wal-Mart laughed at it. But there's no room for these sort of comedies anymore, they've been done so many times and better at that. Plus, these days there are plenty of smarter, funnier sitcoms to watch, who needs dreck like this? Though, I do wonder how Married w/ Children would have done had it been released in this era.

The Steve Rhodes era MWC would do quite well today, what with the fact that there is a much bigger economic gap these days between the lower-middle class and the upper class as well as the fact that actors like Katey Sagal and Ed O'Neil with their (in the early days at least) low-key performances would get good reviews given how that would be different than most over-the-top sitcom stars these days.

Alas though, there would be no way in hell that fine actors like Amanda Bearse and David Garrison would get the roles of Marcy and Steve since nowadays most yuppie types are in the early to mid 20s and uber-image conscious to the point of looking like mindless models from an Abercrombie and Fitch porno magazine "catalogue". Their roles would be cast with prettyboy model types and have crappy acting skills and fail to capture the dynamics that O'Neil/Sagal/Garrison/Bearse had that made the show work....

^I hear a lot of people say that, but honestly I just don't see it. I think he has a certain realism in his character that comes across in whatever he does. I guess that could be annoying but I know guys like him so the whole tone and accent is normal.

While I know that both are probably old enough for it to work, I didn't think that either Rappaport or the wife looked old enough to have kids as old as the daughter or older son.

Good point

Rapaport is 35 and the daughter is 19, so Rap would have to have her at 17... though it is possible, since I think the parents from "Grounded for Life" (as noted earlier, a much better version of this show) were initially teen parents

This > Arrested Development

Ok, that may or may not be true as I've never seen AD, and quite frankly, it looks to stupid for me to want to see but people are making this out to be way worse then it was. Whether it's been done before or not. If something being done before is a reason for a show/movie not to happen then 95% of shows and movies shouldn't be made as by now most concepts have been done before..and there are only a few creative ones.

The daughter is indeed hot and her boyfriend in the show is amusing too.

"My name is Taye"

"Taye?"

"Yeah, it's short for Bootay"

That part really amused me.

Thanks for contributing your worthless opinion.

Tonight's episode improved very slightly. It got a couple chuckles out of me, which is more then I can for last week.
