chaosrage Posted September 25, 2005 Report Posted September 25, 2005 With an Ironman tag next to the match, people will be predisposed to expect to tune in the final 5 minutes to see the outcome. With a 2/3 fall stipulation tacked on, people would have to watch the whole match because as you said, it could end in 8 minutes or 30. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's kinda like not tuning in to a football game until the last 5 minutes because it won't end before that. I hope they do it with no falls for 30 minutes, or at most 1 fall each with overtime, otherwise it won't be realistic and will just make them look bad.

How many casual fans can honestly claim to have watched the entire 60 minutes of Benoit/HHH? Lesnar/Angle? On PPVs it's different because you PAID for it, but on free TV people are afforded the ability to switch on and off.
Lil' Bitch Posted September 25, 2005 Report Posted September 25, 2005 A 30 minute Iron Man match is really REALLY lame.

Iron Men matches never do good ratings, no matter who is in them, because the audience have been told beforehand when the match is ending. They usually do good for the first few minutes when people see how it starts out, but then people tune out until the end. Matches like that would do better if they just had them go out there and go to a 30:00 or 60:00 draw.
RavishingRickRudo Posted September 25, 2005 Report Posted September 25, 2005 Plus... c'mon... Brock/Angle, HBK/Bret... not exactly a track-record between the two guys to be proud of. The match is rather unnecessary given both mens' position in the company. Michaels isn't really doing anything right now, they should think about incorporating him into Cena vs. Angle, since HBK has been playing more of a tweener in the past few months, and Cena and Angle both have their dividing fandom. An Ironman wouldn't really be the most appropriate way to get the third man in there.
The Mandarin Posted September 25, 2005 Report Posted September 25, 2005 Have it go to a 30 minute draw, and then a John Cena music video interrupts the overtime.
DrVenkman PhD Posted September 25, 2005 Report Posted September 25, 2005 The idea with people who barely appeared on Raw being part of the former stars appearing on October 3rd is more in relation to them being on the USA Network in general. That's my take, anyway.
RavishingRickRudo Posted September 25, 2005 Report Posted September 25, 2005 I figure "Gimmick Battle Royale"
MillenniumMan831 Posted September 25, 2005 Report Posted September 25, 2005 If it means I get to see Valentine take an over the top rope bump, I'm all for it.
RavishingRickRudo Posted September 25, 2005 Report Posted September 25, 2005 They should change it to "under the bottom rope battle royale"... or maybe they'll do a lumber jack match... give Hacksaw a good excuse to haul out the lumber This is probably the only time I'd like to see Godfather back, just so Hacksaw can get aboard the "HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Train".
Downhome Posted September 25, 2005 Report Posted September 25, 2005 I doubt we'll see another rumble like that. Didn't they have The Iron Sheik win it at WMX7 just because he couldn't take a bump over the top rope? That was four years ago, I can't imagine how he gets around now. Is it wrong that I'm more excited about seeing Hacksaw than most everything else on this show?
Art Sandusky Posted September 25, 2005 Report Posted September 25, 2005 Shelton Benjamin and Koko B. Ware would be the shit. Someone photoshop some shades on Shelton and let's make this happen.
Lord of The Curry Posted September 25, 2005 Report Posted September 25, 2005 Benjamin coming down to his music doing the parrot dance is the shit indeed.
Guest *KNK* Posted September 25, 2005 Report Posted September 25, 2005 Shelton would finally get over with Frankie 2.0 on shoulder
CanadianChick Posted September 25, 2005 Report Posted September 25, 2005 Finally? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> As a midcard joke.
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted September 25, 2005 Report Posted September 25, 2005 So... everyone wants to see Shelton be a joke? What a bunch of morons.
Team Angle Pusher Posted September 25, 2005 Report Posted September 25, 2005 We'll probably see Ric Flair & John Cena vs. Chris Masters & Kurt Angle, and Flair and Cena win and Flair celebrates with Cena. HHH gets pissed off because Flair is being friendly with Cena and they start a feud.
Guest Coffey Posted September 25, 2005 Report Posted September 25, 2005 So, why is Angle/Michaels even happening? If Angle is the #1 contender to Cena's belt and Angle/Michaels are having a Ironman Match, does that mean that Michaels is the #2 contender to Cena's belt, or are WWE just throwing a match onto the 3-hour card that "dem dare smarks'll like?" It doesn't make a lot of sense.
Hunter's Torn Quad Posted September 26, 2005 Report Posted September 26, 2005 So, why is Angle/Michaels even happening? It doesn't make a lot of sense. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think the match is happening for two reasons. One, they want as few matches as possible on their USA return, and this match eats up 35 minutes. Two, I think they also want to show people what, in their minds, an Iron Man is meant to look like, because I don't think it's coincidence they announced this match just days after TNA announced the same type of match between AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels.
cabbageboy Posted September 26, 2005 Report Posted September 26, 2005 Nah, we aren't seeing Flair/Cena in a tag match since Cena is preoccupied with Bischoff in that foolishness. Actually I think the tag match will be Flair/HHH vs. Carlito/Masters with HHH doing the "heel" turn and setting that feud up.
UseTheSledgehammerUh Posted September 26, 2005 Report Posted September 26, 2005 Whoever called a 30-Minute Ironman "lame" has obviously missed the best Iron Man match of them all between Rude & Steamboat.
cabbageboy Posted September 26, 2005 Report Posted September 26, 2005 I'd say the Rock/HHH Ironman is the best I've seen but then again I was at that PPV live. Rude/Steamboat was solid but a couple of things: 1. going 30 isn't as impressive as going 60 and 2. for some idiotic reason the US title wasn't on the line. (Gotta love the Watts era WCW....on a PPV they had great matches with Sting/Cactus and Rude/Steamboat and the titles weren't even on the line)
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted September 26, 2005 Report Posted September 26, 2005 Also I'd like to point out Shawn is no Steamboat.
Black Lushus Posted September 26, 2005 Report Posted September 26, 2005 I wonder if there's even going to be a build-up for this...probably not, this'll just be a "for the hell of it" match...so who goes over? Angle? Apparently his program with Cena is continuing so that would be my guess...seems silly to have it on a Raw rather than a PPV, but whatever...
Guest Fishyswa Posted September 26, 2005 Report Posted September 26, 2005 Anyone realize the announcement was quickly taken down? I wouldn't be suprised if this doesn't happen.
Black Lushus Posted September 26, 2005 Report Posted September 26, 2005 that's a shame if that's the case...even though it's weird burning it on a Raw, I would still like to see it...
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted September 26, 2005 Report Posted September 26, 2005 Christ. It was taken down so they could announce it on RAW. Don't read too much into it.
Guest Fishyswa Posted September 26, 2005 Report Posted September 26, 2005 True, but it's not like they're saving other announcements for TV. WWE.com is "reporting" Mick Foley will be a guest on Pipers Pit now. I can see them holding off thinking this is something they could sell a PPV with rather than an already name-filled Raw.
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted September 26, 2005 Report Posted September 26, 2005 Ironman>>>>> Piper's Pit guest announcement in terms of importance.
