Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2005 They Sox weren't necessarily horrible. Just mediocre. Cleveland was playing way over their head. I don't think Chicago will make the World Series. However, the pitching of the other teams isn't so great that the ChiSox batting can't produce enough to make a run. In the same vein. I've never been huge fans of finese pitchers come playoff time. Especially in the offensive minded American League. That's the type of pitchers Buerhle and Garland are.
USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2005 Somehow this feels anticlimatic. I'd have liked it better if they clinched off the Indians, not the Tigers, but good job Chicago.
Fökai 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2005 I didn't know that they exuded such dedication when neither Utley or Howard have played a full season yet. Hell, Howard just passed 300 AB's for the season. What does that have to do w/ their dedication? They can't be seen as dedicated until they log a full season? I'm not seeing the logic behind your point. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I was talking about Abreu carrying the offense for the past seven seasons, not Utley or Howard. UTSHU's original quote... And he's far from the reason they're not a joke. The players who actually care (Rollins, Utley, Howard, i.e. youth & dedication) would be that. Abreu just hits home runs every now and then and gets RBIs. But not in big-time situations.

KingPK 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2005 In a bit of a "WTF?" move, the Red Sox trade for Mike Stanton to play the last four games of the season (since he won't be postseason eligible). So is he going to have 20 IP before the weekend is over or something?

Guest Fishyswa Report post Posted September 29, 2005 Someone can probably clear this up for me. The ChiSox clinched the division earlier, and right now they're 3 1/2 up on Cleveland, who's playing right now. If Cleveland wins, it's 3 games, and if they win all 3 against Chi to end the season, they'd have the same record. So what am I missing? What tie-breaker advantage do the Sox have? mike546 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2005 If the Indians sweep, it means they automatically win the WC as the Sox play the Yankees and one team has to lose 2 or more games. The White Sox have the season series over the Indians, so there is no playoff, and the Indians take the WC. I think thats right.

EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2005 That's correct. There's no way all four teams can collect 96 wins. If there is a three way tie between the White Sox, Indians, and an AL East club, all three would advance, with the Central division winner determined by the Head-2-Head records. The White Sox are 11-5 against the Indians this year.
Guest Fishyswa Report post Posted September 29, 2005 Ah I get it, thanks for that. Small is unreal, the guy's probably gonna be undefeated on the season, and even though he had a smaller number of starts, that's the first time I've ever seen that.
Guest TheDon Report post Posted September 29, 2005 Scoreboard update. Yankees lead the Orioles 5-0, Indians lead the Devil Rays 5-0 and the Red Sox trail the Blue Jays 2-0. Make that 6-0 Indians and 2-1 Blue Jays.

devo 0 Report post Posted September 30, 2005 Great game for the Mets tonight. Wright homers twice and Glavine throws a two-hit shutout (with 11 K and 2 BB) in an 11-0 victory.
