therealworldschampion 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2005 Fuck you Macias, fuck you Dusty... Ah well, I think they got a decent shot at the playoffs next year provided Ed doesn't do anything stupid, like trade Ryan Howard or extend Bell's contract another 5 years... Well maybe the Eagles can win it this yea *turns on game, sees they're down 17-0* Ah fuck...

bob_barron 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2005 Remember in 2001 when the Braves backed into the postseason and then proceeded to rape the Astros? No? Okay, because I'm really hoping somehow that happens again. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I remember that but they didn't really back in. Also the Braves still had Glavine and Maddux and Millwood, and Houstin didn't have Petite and Clemens. Edit: They also won 4 of their last 5 games that year. As opposed to this year where we lost 5 of the last 6. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> In 2001 they only won 88 games and the injury bug hit hard. It got so bad they went to Mexico and brought in Julio. They also had that late charge by the Mets to contend with. And Millwood wasn't good in 01 either. I just remember 2001 being a nightmare for most of the season, and they just lucked out that the Mets underachieved until September. Go away Barron, no one cares about your predicted woes. I hate to break it to you, but no one really cares about what you think either. Given that the Phillies are eliminated, don't you have some long-winded post to make about how horrible the whole organisation is?
Mik 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2005 They give up a homer to Jeremy Hermida? Who in the hell is Jeremy Hermida? (sung to the tune of "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego") <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You won't be saying that next year.
Guest TheDon Report post Posted October 2, 2005 Wow the Astros are one bush league Mickey Mouse of an organization. The team just clinched second place/wild card and the whole team acts like they won the fucking World Series.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2005 They also won 4 of their last 5 games that year. As opposed to this year where we lost 5 of the last 6. Well in 2001, Cox played the regulars at the end. The last 4 games this year were meaningless, so I don't think that's the best indicator. But this bullpen is going to give me a heart attack. Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2005 Considering how things looked at the outset of this week, this is all very depressing. There are essentially THREE, perhaps four teams in this postseason that I can stomach to see win it all. Damn me and my soft spot for the underdogs.

Mik 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2005 Jack McKeon just announced his retirement on the Marlins post game. Thank the fucking lord. If he had played Hermida down the stretch, I'm convinced it would have made a 2-3 win difference, not like it matters at this point - but he's going to cornerstone the outfield for the next 5-6 years...get him in the damn game. therealworldschampion 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2005 Looking at the Phillies next year, this is who I'd like to see as the starters 1B: Howard 2B: Utley SS: Rollins 3B: Sign someone who can hit righties for one year and platoon him with Bell C: Lieberthal, and bring Carlos Ruiz up as the backup catcher for him to be ready for 2007 OF: Burrell, Abreu, and give Shane Victorino a chance to win the CF job P: Lieber, Myers, Lidle, and the final 2 shots depends on if Padilla is coming back or not and maybe give Tejeda the 5th spot Closer does worry me since I doubt Wagner is back. I like Al's idea of signing BJ Ryan. I'll give Wade credit for the Lieber signing, he earned that contract this year.

Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2005 Angels over Yankees in 5 I assume you're giving them the edge due to pitching. I wouldn't. A-Rod has a 1.55 ops against Colon in a large sample, Jeter a .976 ops. Smaller samples for Sheff and Matsui, but both have killed him, Giambi has hit him well. Only two guys in the Yankee lineup have bad numbers against Colon, Tino and Posada. Byrd has the best numbers against the Yankees of the Angels three likely starters this series. Posada and Tino actually have bad numbers against all 3 of the Angels starters, and Sheff has been horrible against Byrd, but most of the rest looks to favor NY. For the sake of comparison, Vlad Guerrero, Garrett Anderson and Steve Finley have horrible numbers against Randy Johnson in medium-large samples, Vlad especially. Cabrera is the only one who's hit him well, and Erstad can't hit him but has shown an ability to draw walks. Tim Salmon is awful against him, but does he even play? Vlad also has horrible numbers against Moose, as do Cabrera and Erstad, while GA's #'s are pedestrian. Finley, Figgins, Molina and Kennedy have all hit him pretty well. Wang has never faced anyone on the Angels, and Chacons #'s are mostly from NL relief work, but Vlad sucks against him too, as do Cabrera and Finley yeah, I was bored... The team just clinched second place/wild card and the whole team acts like they won the fucking World Series. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So a team that came back from 15-30 and fought 3 or 4 clubs all the way to the wire isn't allowed to celebrate the fact that they're one of only 4 NL teams in the playoffs? EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2005 I wonder how Al is holding up. Quite well actually. I didn't get to see any of the games due to work. I don't know if that was better for me or not. In any event, we fought hard and I'm proud of the team. They did their best, and hopefully we caught a few more breaks next year. They give up a homer to Jeremy Hermida? Who in the hell is Jeremy Hermida? (sung to the tune of "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego") You better learn who Jeremy Hermida is, and quick. He's going to be around a long, long time. I did enjoy seeing Billy Wagner rip Marlon Byrd a new one, today. What exactly did Wagner say? And without knowing, Wagner can fuck himself. Byrd played in Scranton and provided an autograph, so you know where my loyalties lie. Looking at the Phillies next year, this is who I'd like to see as the starters 1B: Howard 2B: Utley SS: Rollins 3B: Sign someone who can hit righties for one year and platoon him with Bell C: Lieberthal, and bring Carlos Ruiz up as the backup catcher for him to be ready for 2007 OF: Burrell, Abreu, and give Shane Victorino a chance to win the CF job P: Lieber, Myers, Lidle, and the final 2 shots depends on if Padilla is coming back or not and maybe give Tejeda the 5th spot Closer does worry me since I doubt Wagner is back. I like Al's idea of signing BJ Ryan. I'll give Wade credit for the Lieber signing, he earned that contract this year. That looks about right. Jason Michaels now owns a .380 OBP in 808 career at bats. He's .277/.360/.420 against righties, so it is not like he's just a platoon player. For reference's sake, six teams got a .360 or better OBP from their center fielders this season. It's time to see if Jason Michaels can hold center field full time, at least until Michael Bourn is ready. Shane Victorino is better suited as a fourth outfielder. Padilla will return, as I am almost certain he is not a free agent until next season. Randy Wolf should return in July, but I wouldn't depend on him. I'm busy tonight, but I should have some thoughts on the postseasons matchups tomorrow.

If anyone thinks it won't be St. Louis/Houston and New York/Boston again, you need a reality check. ESPN and FOX won't allow it any other way, and we all know they have connections to God, Jesus, Moses, Buhda, and all your other fictional characters. Guest Catcher8C Report post Posted October 2, 2005 I know this has nothing to do with the thread up until now, but I came across a crazy stat today. During his first five seasons (01-05), Albert Pujols never had less than 590 at-bats or more than 592. I know it isn't worth the research but I doubt anything like that has ever done before, even if it doesn't have anything to do with his abilities but more to do with chance. He's the MVP, by the way...Unless you want to pick that guy in Atlanta who's hitting .207 with RISP.

When they won the fucking Wild Card confetti was going off all over the field as the players acted like they won the World Series. I was happy for the Yankee players that they won the division but I didn't like seeing them pour champagne all over eachother in the clubhouse. I did like how they all hugged at the end of yesterdays game on the field. In my opinion only the team that wins the World Series should celebrate like that.
