Also the Braves still had Glavine and Maddux and Millwood, and Houstin didn't have Petite and Clemens. Edit: They also won 4 of their last 5 games that year. As opposed to this year where we lost 5 of the last 6. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> In 2001 they only won 88 games and the injury bug hit hard. It got so bad they went to Mexico and brought in Julio. They also had that late charge by the Mets to contend with. And Millwood wasn't good in 01 either. I just remember 2001 being a nightmare for most of the season, and they just lucked out that the Mets underachieved until September. Go away Barron, no one cares about your predicted woes. I hate to break it to you, but no one really cares about what you think either. Given that the Phillies are eliminated, don't you have some long-winded post to make about how horrible the whole organisation is?

Well in 2001, Cox played the regulars at the end. The last 4 games this year were meaningless, so I don't think that's the best indicator. But this bullpen is going to give me a heart attack.

If he had played Hermida down the stretch, I'm convinced it would have made a 2-3 win difference, not like it matters at this point - but he's going to cornerstone the outfield for the next 5-6 years...get him in the damn game.

I like Al's idea of signing BJ Ryan. I'll give Wade credit for the Lieber signing, he earned that contract this year.

A-Rod has a 1.55 ops against Colon in a large sample, Jeter a .976 ops. Smaller samples for Sheff and Matsui, but both have killed him, Giambi has hit him well. Only two guys in the Yankee lineup have bad numbers against Colon, Tino and Posada. Byrd has the best numbers against the Yankees of the Angels three likely starters this series. Posada and Tino actually have bad numbers against all 3 of the Angels starters, and Sheff has been horrible against Byrd, but most of the rest looks to favor NY. For the sake of comparison, Vlad Guerrero, Garrett Anderson and Steve Finley have horrible numbers against Randy Johnson in medium-large samples, Vlad especially. Cabrera is the only one who's hit him well, and Erstad can't hit him but has shown an ability to draw walks. Tim Salmon is awful against him, but does he even play? Vlad also has horrible numbers against Moose, as do Cabrera and Erstad, while GA's #'s are pedestrian. Finley, Figgins, Molina and Kennedy have all hit him pretty well. Wang has never faced anyone on the Angels, and Chacons #'s are mostly from NL relief work, but Vlad sucks against him too, as do Cabrera and Finley yeah, I was bored... Yankees in 4 or 5

He's .277/.360/.420 against righties, so it is not like he's just a platoon player. For reference's sake, six teams got a .360 or better OBP from their center fielders this season. It's time to see if Jason Michaels can hold center field full time, at least until Michael Bourn is ready. Shane Victorino is better suited as a fourth outfielder. Padilla will return, as I am almost certain he is not a free agent until next season. Randy Wolf should return in July, but I wouldn't depend on him. I'm busy tonight, but I should have some thoughts on the postseasons matchups tomorrow.

During his first five seasons (01-05), Albert Pujols never had less than 590 at-bats or more than 592. I know it isn't worth the research but I doubt anything like that has ever done before, even if it doesn't have anything to do with his abilities but more to do with chance. He's the MVP, by the way...Unless you want to pick that guy in Atlanta who's hitting .207 with RISP.

When they won the fucking Wild Card confetti was going off all over the field as the players acted like they won the World Series. I was happy for the Yankee players that they won the division but I didn't like seeing them pour champagne all over eachother in the clubhouse. I did like how they all hugged at the end of yesterdays game on the field. In my opinion only the team that wins the World Series should celebrate like that.
