Me and three friends (none of us knew shit about Firefly) went last night and really liked it. It was an awesome movie and I'll definitely have to watch the series.

Question about River...

Spoilers (sort of)

During the climactic stretch, River sees Simon injured and goes into "River the Barbarian" mode. She did this earlier in the film after seeing the cartoon that triggered her to act this way and Simon used the safe word to put her in check. After being triggered, could River control when she could go buckwild? Or did the cartoon make her into sort of a mindless weapon taking out everything in sight whereas at the end when she was tearing up the Reavers, that was her in weapon mode, but she was in control?

I think she was in control. When the whole crew saw the recording on Miranda, and she gets sick and says "I'm okay," I think it's a cathartic experience in a lot of ways. The weight of that huge secret isn't just on her anymore and she's freed up by it. And once everyone starts going down fighting, largely on her account, she gives back to them for that relief as best she can. It works really nicely as a change that isn't really explained plotwise, but becomes clear thematically.

The movie really made me dizzy because it was all over the place, they needed to calm things down so the movie could be watchable.  That guy does resemble Charlie Sheen and the girl that resembles Jessica Alba is the girl they are trying to protect in the movie.

I'm sorry I snapped at you earlier, since now its obvious that you probably have some serious problem with your optical nerves.

So you guys think the "Browncoats" can be zealous in their love for Serenity? You aint seen nothin yet, heres Ender's Game author Orson Scott Card on Serenity (who if you might recall, wrote a recent article talkig about how other shows have passed star trek by in quality and praised Lost to high heaven):

..i think calling it the best scifi movie ever is more than just a tad over the top, but still I'm glad he liked it and is talking about it, even if he is a whackjob in other ways :D

I saw it yesterday with my brother, and this is easily my favourite movie in the past several years. (I don't watch many movies, so don't take that for much.)

My only big complaint would be that the general movie audience would probably see Book and Wash as simply "the guy at the ranch" and "the pilot", which of course really undersells their value. But GOOD LORD, that was one sudden impaling. Joss is crazy. Gotta use my old sig to pay tribute to the fallen brother.

If nothing else, as a fan of Firefly, I got a sense of closure I didn't get with Objects in Space. So even if we don't get any more movies (which is probable after a $10 million opening weekend), I'm more than satisfied.

I saw most of the series, and I went with one person who had seen Firefly and two who hadn't and those who hadn't had absolutely no problem with the plot.

I honestly don't know what fanofcoils means about the first 20 minutes being confusing. Simon rescues his sister, who is a guineau pig, from the Alliance. Alliance is mad. Now Simon and River are on a ship. Time to rob a bank! Is that so confusing?

And Mal and Sheen look nothing alike. Who the fuck is supposed to look like Alba? I assume River? They look absolutely NOTHING alike.

Spoilers on River...

A constant theme in Whedons work has been "choice". With River, she chose to use her abilities to benefit the crew, rather than hiding away as she usually did. So I doubt it was a lingering effect of the subliminal code.

It was great.

Replaces Sin City as my favorite movie of 2005.

I was so glad they went into how Reavers came to be. I was wondering that all through the series. And watching River square off with them was great. The score reminded me of Buffy in the last ep where the Slayers were fighting in the hellmouth.

Since you never elaborated why you thought this (and you were essentially agreeing with yourself since the person above you did not make the same point you did), you should be able to excuse people for not correctly interpreting your made-up word.

That scene is probably the closest we'd get to a 'Buffy' movie. I thought of that scene as the 'Dana: The Vampire Slayer' scene- the crazy, super-powered girl kicking ass.

Ok, elaboration: I was agreeing with the "sense of closure" bit. What I meant was that it was somewhat like a season/series finale (since there never really WAS one for Firefly) in that there was closure, whereas the last episode of Firefly was lacking in closure.

Oh. I see.

I saw it and loved it. It's just a shame that this may be the last we see of this great universe.

Serenity finished in ninth with only 4.9 million in the second weekend, so about a drop of 51%.

The good news is it continues to beat "Into the Blue" with Paul "I learned from Keanu" Walker and Jessica "Fantastic Four 2? Please, I need to make another plotless film instead!" Alba.

And so far overseas Serenity made 1.1 million over the weekend.

Well I finally saw it last night, better late than never.

Usually when I have high hopes for a movie, it never seems to feed my expectations, but it defiently did here.

First off, River is a FUCKIN badass. Once she went back to fight the Reavers, I was just waiting for one an intense action scene and I wasn't disapointed. Then that one shot of River standing up, with the blades to her side and all of the bodies next to her was amazing. I want a screenshot of that SO bad.

Second Wash's death surprised me, but it didn't too much because I know Joss likes to kill people. I just thought it was going to be River who died. I am a leaf on the wind. Nuff said there.

I totally forgot about Book. I knew someone was missing, but then there he was, and I was like, ohhh yeah. I wish they explained who the people were that were with him, but whatever.

Jayne was classic as usual.

The whole Kaylee's comment about the batteries was so funny, then Jayne with his usual comment back was classic. I was hoping for the "I'll be in my bunk" but it still was great.

Nathan showed how good of an actor he really is. I think he'll get more staring roles in the future.

Defiently a great movie, an A- in my book.

I was kinda annoyed that Wash got killed. Easily my favourite character there. I would've killed Simon, giving his life to save his sister or even Kaylee. Makes sense to me.
