treble 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2005 I haven't met a lot, but most of them were pretty nice. Ric Flair and Edge and different book signings were both alright, especially Edge. The Flair line-up was a lot longer and he was probably just tired from doing shit all day, but he shook my hand and stuff, so that was cool. The security guard was a bitch, though. Edge was cool. He noticed my Blue Jays hat and struck up a bit of a conversation about them and Vernon Wells. He extended his hand for the handshake before me, too, so that was a nice touch. Oh, and his autograph was personalized. Petey Williams and Bobby Roode were both good guys, got my picture taken with them. Abyss was chatting it up with some people, too, which seemed kinda weird. Was all buddy-buddy with my friend before and after the show. I wasted $5 to have my picture taken with Sabu, who seemed less than thrilled to be anywhere near the arena that night. The picture he had taken with my friend is hilarious, since he's got the most bored look on his face, it's great. I also saw him get pissed at some kid who asked for an autograph. Celtic Jobber 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2005 When I was ten, I met Crush (Bryan Adams) before a WWF house show back in 1992. I asked for his autograph and he said "sorry I don't sign autographs". Right after that, a hot looking girl came up to him, asked for an autograph, and he gladly signed for her. On the bright side, I also met Davey Boy Smith at the same show, and he posed for pictures with my whole family and gladly signed autographs for everyone. J.B. Buzzkill 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2005 I also saw Tajiri later in the same hotel, I said "hello" and he proceeded to tell me he was drunk, then showed me the 5th of Jack Daniels in his pocket. All this with a HUGE smile on his face. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> In-freaking-credible.
Carnival 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2005 details on my Tajiri encounter, it wasn't exactly a convo, he kept walking to the elevator the whole time. It went something like this... Me: Hey, Tajiri T: hello, how are you? Me: Good, how are you doing? T: Uh.....I'm drunk! (Smiling and nodding) Me: (Laughing) T: (Flashes the 5th and gets in the elevator, laughing) I wish I could have talked to him longer, but like I said pretty much everyone I seen was in a hurry to go to their rooms, I stopped talking to people once I got snubbed by Booker, I figured they were all pretty tired and just wanted to be left alone. yankovic fan 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2005 A friend of mine was at an ECW show, and RVD stuck his head out from behind the curtain to look at something. Well said friend gets excited because RVD was his favorite ECW wrestler. RVD looks at him and says "what the fuck you looking at?" and goes back behind the curtain. Reading everyone elses accounts, I am going to just hope the man was having a bad day.

death_by_burrito 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2005 Like I said in the other thread, the only wrestler I met was Bubba Dudley, and he was kind of a dick. I told him I was a fan and I didn't want to draw attention to him, just wanted to say what's up. He shook my hand and shrugged me off as if I wasn't even there. My friend told me once he met The Rock and Jericho. He said they were both dicks, but I didn't believe it cause I'd heard good things about them, but he swore up and down that they were both dicks that wouldn't give him the time of day. It's good to hear stories about how they are really nice guys.
CanadianChick 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2005 I hear when he's a heel, Jericho will be a dick, but in a cartoonish way. I've never heard a bad Rock encounter.
Adam 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2005 Of the guys I met this week. Cool: - AJ Styles (who we went to Burger King with - standing behind AJ in a line at BK was the most surreal experience of my life) - Christopher Daniels (who took a few photos, walked his bags to the bus and turned around to do photos with the guys he couldn't get to) - Frankie Kazarian. Met him in the morning at the airport, at the show, and then by chance the next day at the airport. Nice guy every single time. - Rhino. Asked me where a payphone was, which was crazy, and seemed like a nice guy. - Jeremy Borash. Cool guy, interacted with us at the show and the airport, and I might be on Impact thanks to him. - D-Von Dudley. Was patient when my friend's camera fucked up, and really nice the next day. - Aaron 'Jesus' Auglera (sp?). Had a chat with him in the airport before I flew back home, he was really cool. OK: - Samoa Joe. I can forgive him for not being too receptive, because he'd wrestled Kobashi twice, hopped on a plane, flew for 20 hours to Melbourne and wrestled Test. Forgive and forget. - Bubba Dudley. Got a little annoyed when my friend's camera fucked up, and was totally uninterested the next day at the airport. D-Von and Jesus spoke to me because the three of them came in together, but Bubba ignored me completely. Cunt: - Jeff Jarrett. See the Jarrett interview thread. Absolute cunt. Kayfabe is dead, Jeffy boy.
BruiserKC 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2005 I'm a little tolerant about any celeb being a "prick" to an autograph seeker as they are, no doubt, hounded constantly for them. I can't imagine how irksome it must be to have requests made constantly. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Depends on when they're being the prick. I understand if they're out with their family, eating a meal and having someone come up in between bites of porterhouse steak and shove a card in your face. At the show...I would expect you to at least make the effort to fake enthusiasm for signing for me. After all, that's what you're there for that's your function. Guest TheBASHER Report post Posted October 8, 2005 Some accounts of wrestlers I have met and what I thought... Terry Funk: He was a true gentlemen who was more then happy to chat with fans and he would often keep fans talking when they would have just been happy with a quick autograph, he struck me as a grandfather type figure who just wanted to pass on his war stories to anybody who would listen, He was a really nice guy and with most wrestling personalities you feel the star aura they give off, with Terry Funk I did not feel that at all, I felt perfectly comfortable and relaxed in his presence. Bare in mind that while he was signing these autographs his wife was trying to get him to leave to be elsewhere, but he would not leave until he had signed and chatted with everybody in the queue waiting for him. AJ Styles: Very nice guy who I would go as far as saying seemed shy and slightly embarrassed by the attention he was receiving, very polite and quiet in my experience. He did not seem like he wanted to talk for long but I met him in a packed room with many fans waiting to meet him also. Colt Cabana: I have met Colt a number of times now and he is always very polite and fun to be around, and in my experience it is not rare for him to strike up a conversation with you if he passes you after a show even if you don’t approach him first. This guy just oozes star aura but not in an intimidating manner, It can only be a matter of time until he is WWE bound. D Lo Brown: This guy was another class act who made time for everybody, very down to earth and happy to strike up conversation with fans, this was similar to meeting Terry Funk in that I felt perfectly comfortable in D Lo’s presence; he did not give off any ego or star aura whatsoever. Jonny Storm: I have met Jonny a number of times now; he always makes an effort to be polite Chris Hamrick: This guy was another class act, when I asked him for an autograph he jokingly said ‘No’ but he was then happy to sign and shake my hand. Some may find his humour off putting but he is a class guy from my experience. Tracy Smothers: My meeting with Tracy was very brief and many people had to push to get a chance to meet him in a confined environment, I was close to getting an autograph but one guy unintentionally pushed past and got to Tracy first, Tracy started signing for this person but he was saying to me ‘Don’t worry I have got you’ while doing it, and sure enough the first person he signed for following that guy was me, very brief and not an ideal meeting but his politeness and awareness to look out for the fans has stuck with me. The Blue Meanie: This was another brief meeting, I approached him at a quiet moment for an autograph and he was very polite, this meeting was before a show and I was worried about going through crowds to get to my seat for bell time, but he seemed willing to chat if I had stuck around and started something up. I noticed all through this show that he was there to meet fans at many opportunities, he struck me as a cool down to earth and fun loving guy who genuinely loves what he does and the people he gets to meet by doing it. Chad Collyer: Chad was willing to sign for me but he did not exactly strike me as happy while doing it, I may have caught him at an off moment. Raven: I was nervous about meeting Raven as I had heard many negative stories prior to doing so, but I was pleasantly surprised, he was rather polite and he kept his cool with my Mother who was with me at the time, she was trying to take a photo but the camera messed up, Raven let out a groan but he was smiling at the same time so even though he was probably really pissed off he handled the situation with class and politeness. I should also note that while queuing to meet Raven some fans in wheelchairs could not get near to the table, Raven asked everybody to get back so these wheelchair bound fans could get nearer to him, he took a good amount of time interacting with them and made sure they did not go away disappointed. Jimmy Hart: I have always been a big fan of Jimmy Hart and my meeting with him could have gone no better, this guy is 100% class and he knows how to treat his fans, he struck up some chat with me and had some complimentary comments, even though he was busy with other people he has a way of making a meeting feel like a special moment, before I met him some disabled fans had a place in the queue before me and it was heart-warming to see how Jimmy interacted with them, he gave them a great experience and he made others around see that even though the wrestling business can be a seedy world at times there is some really genuine quality moments that make it all worthwhile and make you proud to be a fan. Jerry Lynn: This was another brief meeting, what struck me about Jerry was his eye contact and his smile when you approach him, and how he was the first to extend his hand for a handshake, he took the time to sign and he thanked me for coming out and said he appreciated me taking the time to meet him. The Sandman: He seemed very drunk when I met him and he was slurring his words while offering me his autograph for a price, he was polite enough to me but you could tell it was all about the money, he was turning down fans who did not want to pay him for an autograph. Samoa Joe: This was a another brief meeting but he was very down to earth and polite, more then happy to pose for a photograph, I felt no star aura from him and he seemed very down to earth. Mick Foley: This meeting was amazingly brief, literally just a handshake and an autograph due to the many people queuing behind me, Mick seemed a bit uncomfortable and tired with the situation(and quite frankly I don’t blame him due to the many he had to sign for and the heating in the place) but towards me he made an effort to be nice and polite, I could see he was rushed so I tried to make my meeting as brief as possible, when he realised I was only going to be quick and I was not going to pester him he seemed more cheery with the brief conversation we had, but it was so quick all I remember is the handshake and autograph. Paul Burchill: I got to know Paul a little during a training seminar weekend back in 2003, this was before he had broken out onto the main FWA roster so he was still little known but was making an impact on FWA academy shows, he was as down to earth and friendly as you could expect from a person, he often went out of his way to approach me and show me moves and talk to me and go to effort to make me feel comfortable in the training weekend. I honestly knew Paul would go on to big things but I think anybody who saw him back then will tell you that, it is great to see him in WWE these days and (unless he changed with fame and I have heard a few accounts to that nature) it couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. Justin Credible: Polite enough guy when I met him but it was for a price, my last impression of Justin was when I went back into the arena at the end of the night to retrieve my coat I had forgot and I saw him counting up his big bag of money, I am not saying that is a bad thing but it stuck with me. Chris Hero: I have met Chris twice, think of a person as polite as you could possibly expect and you won’t be far of Chris Hero, and I have a lot of respect for him and happy memories of my two meetings with him. Chris Daniels: He signed an autograph for me at a show and he was not what I would call rude but he struck me as a bit miserable, I saw him being very blunt with some fans regarding autographs and merchandise and posing for pictures etc, I have heard many good things about Chris so maybe I caught him at a bad moment. I will have missed some people out but I think that covers mostly everybody I have met, I have had no bad experiences in any of my meetings and I do not regret my meetings with any wrestling personality. Edit: I forgot about Chris Sabin,Petey Williams, and CM Punk, another three to the nice guy list, Hopefully I have remembered everybody now.
The Mandarin 0 Report post Posted October 9, 2005 Haven't met any wrestlers that were "pricks". Austin Aries and Colt Cabana are cool guys and seemed to enjoy chatting a bit. Getting a smile and handshake from Ric Flair was tremendous. Can't remember anybody else.
JST 0 Report post Posted October 9, 2005 Some of my own experiences, being in the biz: AJ Styles: Always tries to make a good first impression in a new lockerroom. He offered me gum when I first met him Serious guy backstage but always open to joking around. I even got to ask him what Dusty Rhodes is like as a booker. Oh and he likes my work Austin Aries: Didn't talk to the guy much, long enough to snap a picture with and get a quick chat. Fairly decent guy. Chris Daniels: Very polite and cordial with everyone, unless he's had a bad day/flight. Which would explain BASHER's encounter somewhat. Always cool to you if he likes you, though. He let me walk around backstage with the X-Division title Homicide: Nice guy, but don't even think about asking for a picture if you're wearing anything Boston Red Sox related. Man sure loves his Yankees. Steve Corino: Extremely easy to get along with. Incredibly down to earth. First thing he asked his ride once he arrived "You guys got a Burger King?" Petey Williams: Surprisingly over in Quebec, seems to like wrestling there. Nice guy, also always open to a good joke. Raven: Another case of "he's all right if he likes you". My boss was just about ready to strangle him (on account of just being Raven ), but I got along fairly well with him, having done his match and all. Apparently, don't disturb him when he's praying. Most of those encounters can be seen in the links within my sig.
Scroby 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2005 I haven't met any wrestlers who have been in the bigger promotions, I've only met, hung out with, trained with indy wrestlers, and everyone of them have been the greatest to me. I just recently started training (end of June) and everyone that I have met has helped me by giving me bumping advice, taking a move, selling, or just messing around. If any of you follow bay area/northern CA indy wrestling maybe you'll reconize the names, most of these guys to my knowledge mainly wrestle in this area, Jason Vega, Helfyre, Rik Luxery, Stelle, U.S. Stelle, El Flaco Loco, Eric West, and Alexis Smirnoff Jr. I also met a few while I stayed in WA, mainly the Seattle-Bremerton-Tacoma area, the guys who I met were really great to me, Tim Flowers, Chef, Rad, Jason Jackson, and The Avalanche. But there's a lot I didn't list who are just indy talent, who are just great people and fun to be around with.
