Aero 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2005 I was planning on buying some PPVs off of Ebay, mostly the early Survivor Series and Summerslams I don't have. I know that at least the first few Survivor Series Coliseum videos are heavily clipped, so my question is, would it be worth it to buy the Coliseums, or should I hold out for full PPV broadcasts? For the record, these are the PPVs I was looking for. Anyone know which ones are heavily clipped, if at all? Survivor Series 87, 88, 89 Summerslam 88, 89, 90, 91,
spman 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2005 Good luck finding watchable copies of the original PPVs, they're out there, but they're all copies of copies x100 and can barely be watched, this is the case with my copy of Royal Rumble 1988, it just happens that some guy out in East Bumblefuck, NJ had enough sense to record it back in 1988, and that one copy has since been duplicated hundreds of millions of times since, and any resemblence to the original picture quality is conicidental. Aero 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2005 Yeah, I've gotten some bad copies from traders before. I'm aware that finding good copies of the PPV broadcasts will be tough, but on a rare occasion, you might find them on Ebay, which often means good quality. You just have to hope that WWE doesn't stop the auction before you can buy.

Survivor Series 87, 88, 89 Summerslam 88, 89, 90, 91, 92 <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Survivor Series 1987 and 1988 are clipped. 88 is rather heavily clipped. 87 has part of the HTM/Savage team match slashed as well as some of the tag team match slashed. 88 all but eliminated the Duggan/Andre team match. SummerSlam 88 edits the best match of the night (Bulldogs/Rougeaus), but nothing else was that bad. The others I saw (didn't see 92 on video) were all pretty much uncut. Fökai 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2005 Series '89, Slam '89 and Slam '91 are uncut. I have seen the live telecasts and masters of all three; AFAIK, the only thing cut out is the intermission they used to break up the show.

Guest Lawlerm Report post Posted October 1, 2005 If you have a VCR that can play PAL tapes you can still get a hold of originals pretty easily.
BUTT 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2005 Survivor Series '87 is just horribly clipped. I can't really explain it, but.....there's an edit about every minute.
MillenniumMan831 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2005 I think you may be referring to SurSer 88 where Warrior's and Andre's matches are clipped to roughly 8 minutes each. SurSer87 is clipped also but not as dreadfully.

pochorenella 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2005 (edited) SummerSlam 92 does not include Tito Santana vs Papa Shango. The match order is changed too, IIRC. Edited October 3, 2005 by pochorenella
Guest Dumb Monkey Report post Posted October 2, 2005 Poch, I assume you're from england, because the US Coliseum Video doesn't include Tito/Shango (or Tatanka/Berzerker and the 6-Man), but does have Virgil/Nailz. Survivor Series '87 is clipped very lightly when it comes to the actual matches. The main complaint is removing the elimination of the Bulldogs. Survivor Series '88 is fucked to hell. They switched match orders (the opener was Warrior/HTM Teams, not the 10 tag teams match), and clipped everything out of Team Warrior/Team HTM and Team Roberts/Team Andre other than the eliminations. JHawk 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2005 I actually have a TV master of Rumble 88. Decent quality considering I've watched it about 50 times since it first aired. I need a DVD recorder so I can preserve that shit before it's too late.
MillenniumMan831 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2005 And on the flip side, I have a dvd of RR88, but it appears to be about a 2nd gen. Not bad.

It's the match was so fucking bad it must have erased from my mind. I'll edit my original post. I'm not from England but I read reports about the show and saw some pics on PWI or some other mag and realized there were missing matches. I had no idea about this when I got the tape, only when I saw those reports. It seems it's been common practice to delete matches from England-based shows, as they also did that on One Night Only and some other I may be forgetting. It's actually not bad. I can't say it's the best VQ I've ever seen, but for almost 20 year old footage that's hard to come by, it looks pretty damned good.
