geniusMoment Posted October 17, 2005 Report Posted October 17, 2005 The Cubs drew great ratings in the playoffs, and if they ever make it to the World Series would draw great again. If the cubs do make it then Fox should hire Steve Stone to call the games.
Precious Roy Posted October 17, 2005 Report Posted October 17, 2005 Which brings up the question again, why doesn't America care about the White Sox? I don't buy the "Black Sox" scandal, because we're an insanely forgiving nation, we embrace public scandal. My theory: Cubs = red, white, blue White Sox = black, white Americans can't deal with a black and white color scheme
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted October 17, 2005 Author Report Posted October 17, 2005 Because the White Sox don't have easily identifiable former stars such as Billy Williams and Ernie Banks. Those players add personality to the Cubs' legend.
Precious Roy Posted October 17, 2005 Report Posted October 17, 2005 That might have something to do with it, Banks anyway (I don't even know who Billy Williams is ), and Harry Caray.... also, I bet middle America hates Ozzie Guillen
Slayer Posted October 17, 2005 Report Posted October 17, 2005 I'd say look to more recent history as well, namely the big faces of the two teams. Cubs - Sammy Sosa - portrayed as affable and goofy (at least until last year) White Sox - Frank Thomas - portrayed as aloof and surly
The Czech Republic Posted October 17, 2005 Report Posted October 17, 2005 Well we've been over this a hundred times, what's 101? The comparative dominance of the Chicago Cubs comes from millions of people growing up with day games on WGN. Also, prior to 1958, the western limits of the major league were the St. Louis Cardinals and Cubs, who each had 50,000-watt flagships and sizable networks. It's just a matter of exposure. The White Sox never matched the media presence of the Cubs, and the Cubs are more important as a result.
Slayer Posted October 17, 2005 Report Posted October 17, 2005 But the Cubs never had DISCO DEMOLITION NIGHT! YEAH BABY!
Guest Finch Posted October 17, 2005 Report Posted October 17, 2005 The Cubs do something called "We find a way to fuck it up every year and we blame a fucking goat" maybe they don't burn anything but it's a demolition.

Slayer Posted October 18, 2005 Report Posted October 18, 2005 LaRussa once again shows how well he does when his back is against the wall
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted October 18, 2005 Author Report Posted October 18, 2005 LaRussa once again shows how well he does when his back is against the wall <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Just out of curiosity, how is this LaRussa's fault?
Bruiser Chong Posted October 18, 2005 Report Posted October 18, 2005 It's not. It's Al's! Astros better win the Series.
Slayer Posted October 18, 2005 Report Posted October 18, 2005 So it's just mere coincidence that most of his teams happen to roll over in decisive postseason games? Hell, if it wasn't for plate tectonics he might not even have a ring in the first place
bob_barron Posted October 18, 2005 Report Posted October 18, 2005 Yea, I blame Al and is don't have a prayer for all this. YOU JINXED IT!~
Guest Finch Posted October 18, 2005 Report Posted October 18, 2005 Yea, I blame Al and is don't have a prayer for all this. YOU JINXED IT!~ <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I guess the bullpen isn't to blame

Guest *KNK* Posted October 18, 2005 Report Posted October 18, 2005 Now it gets interesting. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Pujols will just cut off the drama and pop it to 3rd.
