EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2005 I don't know how reliable this is, but a Newsday article is saying Boras asking price on Damon is 84 million over sevrn years. Insane. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I doubt Damon will get it, but that's fine. Boras' tactic is to start high, and work his way down. It's certainly better than starting low. It's all part of the negotiations, and it's not a problem unless some team buys it.
Failed Bridge 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2005 So Matsui now makes $13mill a year and most likely has bonuses he can make too. That's quite the raise from what he made before. Theo Epstein wants his job back. Just once I'd like the Red Sox to have a drama free off-season.
Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2005 So I heard some Met trades, don't know if they're true. First one is Cameron for Otsuka (sp?), the Padres reliever. The other one is Heilman for Todd Walker. Again, don't know if they're legit.
Failed Bridge 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2005 according to ESPN 1050... Padres recieve Mike Cameron Mets recieve Xavier Nady and Newsday confirms it here.
strummer 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2005 DAVID LENNON AND JON HEYMAN STAFF WRITERS November 16, 2005, 4:17 PM EST The Mets have agreed to trade Mike Cameron to the Padres for outfielder/first baseman Xavier Nady, a person familiar with the situation said today, with San Diego awaiting the result of a physical to check Cameron's eyesight in the wake of his last season's damaging collision with Carlos Beltran. The righthanded-hitting Nady, 27, batted .261 with 13 home runs and 43 RBIs in 326 at-bats for the Padres in 2005. He appeared in 68 games in the outfield, 44 at first base, and three at third base. Cameron, a 10-year veteran, batted .273 with 12 homers and 39 RBIs in 308 at-bats for the Mets last year. He missed the first month of the season recovering from wrist surgery and his year was cut short when he collided with Beltran in a game against the Padres on August 11. Failed Bridge 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2005 the Cameron deal is pending a physical as the Padres wanna see if his eyesight is ok. Acquiring Xavier Nady is supposedly part of a bigger deal where the Mets send a package to Boston for Manny. I don't know about that though since the Red Sox don't even have a GM. Only Cubs trade I could find was this The Chicago Cubs today traded right-handed pitcher Jon Leicester to the Texas Rangers in exchange for a player to be named later. mike546 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2005 I'm guessing this sets up the rumored Wells for Roberts or Otsuka deal?
Failed Bridge 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2005 Probably...although Otsuka's numbers away from Petco aren't very good.
devo 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2005 Well, if this is the end of the trade (i.e., they're not sending Nady to Boston after this), it's not a bad deal at all. Nady's younger, about as good a hitter, and can play several positions. You sacrifice a bit of defense if you play Nady in OF, but at the same time, you get someone who can play 1B just in case Jacobs completely bombs. Also, there's no telling if Cameron will ever be the same after surgery.
strummer 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2005 Probably...although Otsuka's numbers away from Petco aren't very good. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He had a 6.92 ERA outside of Petco

strummer 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2005 I was backing what you said. I'm glad the Mets didn't get him. This is a good deal IMO if the Mets upgrade at 2b and RF.
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2005 Nady's Caucasian, so he won't make it to April in Queens
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2005 You positive about that?
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2005 Otsuka's away numbers may be a one year fluke. He had excellent 2004 numbers, his hit rate was abnormally high this year, and he still allowed only one home run in 26 road innings.
Mik 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2005 More good news for the cash strapped Marlins... Dontrelle Willis is expected to get the largest ever first year arbitration in MLB history - somewhere in the neighborhood of 4.5-5 million. And next year comes Cabrera. Oh god. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Marlins and Willis reach a three year deal.
Failed Bridge 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2005 doesn't Eric Gagne hold the record for most made in his first year of arbitration with $10mill?
Guest Smues Report post Posted November 17, 2005 Gagknee only got $5 mil in his first year of arbitration. If I remember correctly he won the Cy Young, asked for 8 million, got 5. I laughed.

Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2005 Cubs sign Scott Eyre to a two-year deal with a player option for 2008. Hey, a veteran Dusty Boy. I was just thinking the Cubs didn't have enough of those.
mike546 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2005 Fuck that, we'll take him if you don't want him. I mean honestly, who in the world would want a good lefty reliever?
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2005 $5.5 Million a year? (Or $3.5 Mil if the player option's included in that). If this is a harbinger of things to come, the best teams will be the ones who DON'T spend money this offseason. That's a huge chunk of change to spend on a pitcher who's essentially a situational lefty.
Bored 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2005 Eyre had a very good year but it looks rather fluky when you look at his career numbers and that he'll be 34 next year. At $5.5 million/year they better hope he duplicates his 2005 numbers. Again if I'm a GM I completely avoid this free agent market as much as I can and look for trades to improve my team. Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2005 And 33-years-old. I love how so far, the Cubs are acting like this is Brewster's Millions and they need to spend all the surplus in 30 days.
Fökai 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2005 So the Braves are going to pocket the extra money, or what? They have a few weaknesses, but I don't think there's a strong enough free agency pool to pursue them. They're probably going to reach for a middle reliever and get burned by it.
