World Series-Astros vs White Sox

Recommended Posts

The first WS I can remember was Phillies/Blue Jays, first NBA finals I can remember was Suns/Bulls and first Super Bowl I can remember was 49ers/Chargers.

I assume we are about the same age, because these three are my firsts, too.

I guess I kinda fit in with both groups here because Suns/Bulls is the first NBA Finals I remember, but I remember both Cowboys/Bills Super Bowls, I remember Jays/Braves before Jays/Phillies, and the Canadiens/Kings is my first Stanley Cup Finals.

Oh, and while we're going down the list, I remember UNC beating Michigan on Webber's epic choke, and I'm pretty sure that FSU winning it all was the first college football year I remember.

It's weird how people will be the same on one sport, and then way off on another one though. I mean really, who gets into the NBA before they watch a Super Bowl?

I figured out a way to feel good about the playoffs...

The White Sox lost once the entire post season, to the Angels, the day after they beat the Yankees to advance. Clearly, the excitement for beating such a great team made the Angles better than the White Sox, who are WS Champs, for that one game.

So to review, the Yankees are so much better than the White Sox, just beating them gives a team the ability to beat the White Sox. :)

I couldn't help but laugh when I noticed Raul f'n Casanova in the middle of the Sox post-game celebration.  I forgot he was even on the team.

Good lord, even I missed that. The man had six games and five at bats with the Sox all season, and it was his first MLB exposure since 2002. Talk about Art Jorgensing your way to a ring.

My first WS memory was the Cardinals beating the Brewers. In 1982.

Man, I feel old.

Other firsts: Celtics over Rockets, 49ers over Bengals, Islanders over Oilers, Colorado/GA Tech split championship (the 5th down season) and Michigan over Seton Hall.

I did. I got into the NBA in 1986, and didn't start watching the NFL until 1988.

Surprise!

NEW YORK (AP) -- The Chicago White Sox's first world championship in 88 years was also the lowest-rated World Series ever.

Chicago's four-game sweep of the Houston Astros averaged an 11.1 national rating with a 19 share on Fox. That's down about 7 percent from the previous low, an 11.9 with a 20 share for the 2002 World Series between the Anaheim Angels and the San Francisco Giants.

While the 2002 World Series, which went seven games, rated higher overall, it was only averaging an 11.0 through four games.

This year was a drop of almost 30 percent from last year's series, in which the Boston Red Sox swept the St. Louis Cardinals for their first title in 86 years. That had a 15.8 rating with a 25 share.

Wednesday night's 1-0 Chicago win had a 13.0 preliminary national rating with a 21 share. It was the highest-rated prime-time show on Fox since the final of American Idol in May, but still not enough to save the series from being the lowest-rated.

Despite rating so low in comparison to other World Series, the four games of this series were each the highest rated prime-time network programs on their respective nights

Ratings would have been higher if the Astros put up a fight. I had high hopes for this being like the Twinkies/Braves series, instead it was the Subway Series only less interesting.

The National League has been rolling over and dying the last two World Series. Back to back World Series, the NL didn't win a game.

There might be something to that. The Angels in 2002 were about as boring and whitebread of a team as can be, aside from Garrett Anderson. The Astros this year had pretty much an all white lineup. Those two series were the lowest rated series ever. So I guess it can be said that white guys can win games and get to the World Series, but can't draw any viewers.
