If Vince Made a Best of Starrcade DVD

Recommended Posts

As a long-time NWA/WCW fan...there are so many matches that I'd want to see on that if Vince ever put that out. After all, Starrcade was the first PPV that was ever put out. I'll throw out a few that are must-sees on the show.

Roddy Piper vs. Greg Valentine...Dog Collar Match from Starrcade '83

Ohtani vs. Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit vs. Jushin Liger-Starrcade '95 in the WCW-New Japan Challenge

Magnum T.A. vs. Tully Blanchard..."I Quit" cage match Starrcade '85

Sting vs. Vader..."King of Cable" final from Starrcade '92

Road Warriors vs. Midnight Express...Starrcade '86 "Night of Skywalkers" Scaffold Match

First off, Vince will never acknowledge that Starrcade proceeded WrestleMania as the first mega supercard and also, I don’t see him ever giving WCW credit for anything really. But just for time killing sake this would be the DVD, 2 Disc set

The fact that Tully/Magnum's I Quit cage was for the US Title still astounds me to this day. You'd never see that much blood or destruction in a lower-rung belt these days. Not even close.

Even ladder matches and hardcore matches don't do what that one cage match did.

Indeed. They used to play old school wrestling matches on public access over here. That I quit Match drew me in more than perhaps any other match, only the Harts at WMX had me in that much suspension of disbelief. Fantastic Grudge Match.

Yeah, that's very true. I think last night's Flair vs. HHH IC title match was probably the most "important" mid-card title match that I can remember in a long, long time, and definitely had more of a big-match feel than an IC title match has had in a long time, especially considering it's usually the curtain-jerker for most Raw PPV's.

I really miss the days when guys would feud over the IC/US/TV titles like it was THE most important strap in the world at that particular moment. The IC title hasn't meant much at all since at least the mid-90's, with the possible exception of the Austin/Owen feud in '97 . . .

Another match I just thought of I watched on one of my tapes the other night...Luger vs. Hansen at Starrcade '90 when Luger won the bullrope match to regain the US title. I thought that was one of Luger's better efforts (even though there weren't many in his career)
