Why do they let old people on

Recommended Posts

I used to watch Carmen Sandiego every day. Its a shame the Chief is dead..she was on that show The District.

I even, sadly, still have the WITWICS CD. My favorite song is the state capitals song.

"albany atlanta tallahassee oklahoma city trenton nashville concord dover little rock des moines..sacramento olympia montpelier jackson carson city juneau denver raleigh austin..BOSTON..Capital!.."

My only complaint is that they join Indianapolis and Annapolis together..I dont really care that they leave out Pierre, SD.

My all time favorite game show when I was kid to watch durring summer or when I was off from School was Classic Concentration.

Oh, and I hate the reruns of match game on GSN..when they ran them a lot.

"Tom was so broke.."

HOW BROKE WAS HE????

While watching "Millionaire" on GSN tonight, I was reminded of something... it seems like whenever the contestant says aloud "I have it narrowed down to (choice 1) and (choice 2)" and then uses a 50-50, it almost always gets knocked down to those two, which helps fuck all and wastes the 50-50, so if you want to use the 50-50, don't tell them what two you have narrowed down.

Norm Macdonald talked about this when he was on and wanted to use the 50/50, and how he thought that there was some guy in the back who was like *does evil face and laugh* and than picks the two you chose. Regis assured him the answers were prepicked, and that his 50/50 would have nothing to do with what he thought the answer was. He chose 50/50...and the two answers that he thought it might be were both still there.

It was pretty funny, the crowd went nuts over it and Norm was like "A-Ha!"

LAW & ORDER: SVU MARATHON ON THIS SUNDAY AT 1/12c

What, I don't go into the TV folder. I mean, I would, I just don't.

Law and Order SVU kicks ass. Well, when its not doing one of those "we're tapping into whats going on now" and then get it horribly gay like when your parents try to be cool episodes.

It's not a run away, but

The theme to Where In Time... > Where In The World

Come on, apart from Ducktales/Darkwing Duck, which still tie for #1, "We're on the case and we're chasing her through history" was as catchy as TV themes get.

I still mark for Greg Lee though.

I know you're not asking ME, Czech, but I was able to catch him last Thursday when I was off. He seemed very out of place, like he wasn't prepared. I give him the benefit of the doubt, though, because it was week 1. I just don't see him lasting as long as Barker did, be it by choice or otherwise. He seems reserved, like he wants to bust out in his Whose Line persona but can't because of the setting.

I'm watching now, and he seems to be having fun. He also tends to rip on some of the little dinky items in the pricing games, which is new. Bob Barker had a lot more respect for those "supplements" that aided you in shitting. Of course, there was Plinko today, so whenever there's Plinko, I'm happy.

Whoa! And now we get Clock Game! We're gettin' all the classics! I like this, Plinko, and Punch Game. Too bad this whore is too stupid to know how to play Clock Game. She won with like half a second left. Come on. You should be able to do it faster than that.

EDIT: the fuck. This big fat guy with duct tape on his shirt and cutoff camouflage pants beat this cute Vietnamese girl in the final showcase by like $100. Not cool.

Every morning, for a week and a half, I've meant to set my DVR to get Price. Every morning, I have forgotten. I'd do it now, but the TV is all the way in the other room. I am excited to see him, having heard opinions on both sides of the fence. I like the redesigned set I saw in some stills online, so that's a plus.

OH! This just occured to me.

My last day at a job were I had worked for two years coincided with Bob Barker's last day. I told the cutie I worked with that, when she mentioned the Barker thing, that everyone else was a mere pricing game, and she was like Plinko.

Told this to a buddy the following day, and it led to an unreal argument over whether or not the Big Wheel was better than Plinko. Like fuck! Big Wheel is on twice a show, and there's bonus spins probably twice a week. Plinko's what, one every six or eight shows? No fuckin contest.

Rarer than that. In March, I started watching just to see Plinko. Took me like three weeks. If there's a downside to Plinko, it's that it takes up so much time that the next pricing game is just like

"What costs more, the day bed or the saxophone?"

"Day bed"

"Okay you win both! brb"

Okay, kids. I'm currently watching Friday's Price, courtesy of DVR, and will give you a stream of conciousness.

So far, I'm into it. One game in and it still feels like The Price is Right. I never mentioned this, but Rich Fields has done an exemplory job filling the shoes of Rod Roddy as announcer.

Drew feels like more of a talk show host than a game show host, but it's not bad, just a change in style. Much less formal.

I noticed on the first game, the Range Game, Drew introduced the game BEFORE the prize. Dunno if it was a mistake or an intentional change, but it was a bit weird.

Drew's delivery is very fast, even fro Drew Carey. He does seem nervous. I think once he gets settled in his sense of humor will shine through a bit more. I'm biased as I think Carey is a funny guy, so your mileage may vary.

Drew is making a point thus far to say how fun each game is. Seems unnecessary.

UH-OH! We're on the Grand Game, bitch just guessed some cold remedy was under $9 and the crowd shit on it. She switched her vote, good move Stacey.

Drew has done a better job explaining this game than the Range Game. Ha, now bitch went back to the remedy and won $10,000 for it. Well played, ma'am.

Drew makes a point of asking the winner of the item up for bids how they're "feelin'." Kind of nice. Next up is 3 Strikes, outside of being an awesome game, this should be a good test for Drew. Bob always seemed to feel for the player when they drew the X, so we'll see if Drew has the same empathy.

Dude hit two strikes in a row, and Drew seemed more surprised than anything. But he's playing this game well, good reactions, getting some emotion into it. Third strike, loud "OH!" from Carey, but not at Bob's level. Bob just looked crestfallen when that third X hit.

Interesting. Drew made a point to ask the first wheel spinner if he wanted to say hi. Drew does feel like he generally wants the show to be more interactive. He's less of a showman and more of a player's host, if that makes sense. He just cut another bad joke about people saying hi to their siblings, but he's trying.

Rather than asking Rich how one could be a contestant on Price, he just sort of segued into it. "If you want to be a winner like Jason, here's what you do!" Drew's quite different from Bob, although I guess that's obvious.

Halfway through and I like it so far...

I've noticed the CROWD is less into it. That's bad. Not surprising, a lot of people loved Bob, but still not a good sign. I remember some maniacal crowds over the last couple seasons. To be fair, this could be an off day.

Race game, sweet. So far we've had three pretty solid games (Grand Game is kind of lame, IMO). Drew's not giving as much running commentary as Bob did while the idiot runs around, but he is shouting out times, so at least he's helping the player, telling him to hurry. Guy was NOT fast, or smart.

Rich Fields is not excited for cars today. DICE GAME! Fuck yes. Definitely in the top five. Drew completely forgot to mention that there are no zeroes, or numbers higher than six. She is rollng BAD -- five, two, three, five. BUT! The three hit, and she went with the odds on the other three. And...BING BING BING BING BING BING BING BING BING!!! Awesome. I love the Dice Game. I can't believe Drew whiffed on the 0/6 rule, though. First big miss of the day, which fortunately didn't come into play.

I think Drew needs to tone the commentary down just a little. I like that he has his own style, but he's a little obtrusive. Nice TV, won by a dude who looks like a kid I grew up with. SAFE CRACKERS! Some great games today. And a cruise of Alaska! Good work, dude, don't blow it. And some digital camcorders. "DXG" isn't a money brand, but this is a nice prize package. Drew's explaining Safe Crackers well, although he seems nervous. BUZZZZZZZZZZZZ! Guy fucked up. Drew for whatever reason seemed like he was talking a LOT this game.

Ha, Drew let a guy wear his glasses while he spun the big wheel. Forgot to ask the guy if he wanted to spin again, but made an okay save. I like that he's asking people if they want to say hi to anybody, that's actually really cool.

WHOA! Okay, so most the new sets are cool, but the showcase showdown is a little...loud. Even for Price. Drew taking the explanation of SS slow, and still sort of tripped on his words. But it's fine, we all know how it works. Drew did just call a dining room set a "thing." I think, honestly, he's trying too hard. We know these games. Oh, God, the "Pricini Vineyards." Awesome. Sometimes I forget how ridiculous this show can be. THERE! Rich got up for that car. No Rod Roddy, as someone mentioned, but at least he was into it. THERE! That time, Drew didn't itemize the showcase, he just said "Christine, pretty nice showcase, what do ya bid?" Sometimes less is more.

Drew closed VERY strong, delivering some suspense as he announced the showcase prices, getting excited for the winner, and then sneaking in the "spay and neuter" line before a big BYE!

**********

Overall...I think Drew has a LOT of potential. He's more people friendly, and more off the cuff. If he can build on the former and rein in the latter, he'll be able to carve out his own style and make it work. A lot will come with time, a lot of the timing and the nervousness issues will resolve themselves. I'd say he gets about a season to settle into it. Being as he's a funny guy, and an improv guy who should be used to working on the fly, I expect him to be much better at this time next year. But, in the end, it's the games that make the show, or at least that's been my belief. So as long as he doesn't screw up too horribly (and nothing done today was very bad at all), he should be a fine host for a while to come.

Pssh, there's nothing better than the seizure-incuding blinking lights and loud bells when someone wins that new car. Man I love Price is Right.

Agreed. Also I think they let old people on the price is right because who else is awake at 8-12 on a weekday morning and doesn't go to work. Also I am glad Bob Barker ended his contract before it ended him. I wonder if he still has that unbelievable orange glow.
