I don't think they need to change any booking, aside from Cena, really. Take away Daivari and just let Angle be Angle. That's what the fans like, no need to change anything. Let Cena be who he was last year and the fans can cheer if they want and boo if they want too. The old notion of face/heel is over and was over a long time ago, just let them be themselves and the fans can decide whether that's face or heel.

Cena got a huge pop when his music hit. Those dummys that boo are just doing that monkey see monkey doo crap from the previous week. They want to cheer the champ but don't want to look uncool to the previous week's crowd.

We've arrived at a time that it's "cool" to cheer the Heels like Jericho and Angle. So you turn Cena and then he's a Heel and he gets cheered, might as well keep him Face and Angle gets cheered as a Heel. It doesn't make a difference really. Cena will keep selling merchandise.

Angle and Shelton should have a "wrestling feud," where neither man acts overly heelish or faceish. Just have them one upping each other in the ring during each match, and trading wins a couple times. The blowoff can be a 2 out of 3 falls match on a PPV, and by then both will probably be getting cheered by the fans for putting on good wrestling matches and neither have done any heelish things. From there, you could do a double turn during the PPV, or have them reunite as Team Angle (not as a tag team, although I would buy them taking the titles off Kane/Big Show.)

 

As for Cena, let HBK take the title off him and have Cena go tweener for a while. His character would be interesting if he took on both heels and faces, but didn't pander to the crowd or mock the crowd either. Just have him insult all of his opponents, and PLEASE work on some wrestling moves.

 

That leaves HBK with the title where he should lose it at NYR or the Rumble. You would have Shelton (if you did the double-turn), Edge, or Triple H as heels to face Michaels, although I don't want to see another HBK/HHH feud. I say let Michaels do the superhuman survival of the Elimination Chamber from the start of it, but only eliminating the last guy, then have Edge use the money in the bank shot against Michaels who is near death.

Not really. More like it is 'cool' to cheer the more talented wrestlers. There are a few exceptions, but most of the guys who get the most cheers are usually among the best wrestlers in the company (Rey, Benoit, HBK, Eddy before his death, HHH, Angle). Batista isn't a great wrestler, but he's over because he's a rarity in wrestling, a face character that isn't an idiot. You won't see Batista get booed against anyone other than an Eddy Guerrero or Chris Jericho-type, and at No Mercy both he and Eddy were faces so it isn't like it mattered anyways. Taker is an exception because of who he is. Besides, both Batista & Undertaker (as well as Kane & Show) can believably beat the best wrestlers just because of their style. They are big power guys that can believably end any match with one move, even against more talented opponents.

 

Cena doesn't have the moveset or character to compete with most of the top names on RAW. He worked well with JBL on Smackdown, but he really suffered by the move to RAW where the heel characters are less defined. But at the same time, if he feuded with someone like Masters who he wouldn't get booed against, the match would stink up the joint and both guys would probably end up getting booed anyways (ala Steiner/HHH). In short, he just isn't talented enough for the position he's in. I don't mind Cena, but that seems to be the problem.

 

If they really want to try to make this work, they pretty much have to stick him in with Edge next. He's about the only heel on RAW that I can think of that wouldn't get that many cheers AND is talented enough to get a decent match out of Cena.

While heels and faces can be well defined, I think anomolies should be recognized like rocky. The fans made rocky a heel. The fans are starting to make cena a heel, but the WWE seems to want to distract us from that fact.

 

I think they're booing cena much in the way that both heels and faces got cheered in ECW for putting on a great show with lots of crazy bumps/spots. They recognize talent.

 

I mean, come on, a belly-to-back sit out powerbomb is a rarity today, but every match? I'm sure Cena can do some other moves. Maybe that's why they had him bust out an STF.

The crowds rejection of Cena is akin to the crowds rejection of Jeff Hardy. When the female wrestling fans (and children) -who are very, very annoying- start to cheer someone enthusiastically, it then becomes "uncool" for the older, male fans to cheer the same thing, and the male fans will see fit to try to drown out the girly cheers with thier more masculine boos. An example, when LOTC and I were watching a PPV in Famous Players, there was this teenage girl who kept yelling at the top of her lungs "GO SEXY! WHOOO! I LOVE YOU CENA!". Now, let's ignore that this was in a theatre and that cheering is fruitless, she was still incredibly annoying and had guys booing Cena *just* to shut her up.

 

Austin used to pander to the fans, Austin lost his edge, yet Austin was still incredibly over. Why? Well, he didn't have chicks (s)creaming for him.
