mike546 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2005 Myers deal is 2 years, 2.4 million. Sure hes a lefty specialist so his deal isn't going to be huge, but thats a good contract considering the ones thrown around so far.
mike546 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2005 Angels trade for J.C Romero for a minor leaguer. Like they needed anymore bullpen help.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2005 Have fun watching all the inherited runners score when Romero is in the game. I figured Tejada wanted out because he saw a chance to play with his buddy Ortiz. Not that he had a problem with Hernandez.
Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2005 If we trade Pavano for Wilkerson in some fashion, the Rangers basically traded A-Rod for Pavano
MikeJordan23 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2005 I see baseball-reference updated with the post-season stats. I didn't realize Albert Pujols is 4th all-time in slugging percentage, ahead of Bonds.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2005 Isn't this just wonderful...Soriano has said he won't play in the outfield. That's not him expressing a personal preference, that's him flat-out refusing to play outfield: "Obviously, I have the control. Of course I'm not going to play the outfield." So now the Nationals have two starting second basemen, one of whom looks to be a malcontent, and are short an outfielder. Nice trade.

devo 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2005 The Mets signed Julio Franco to a 2-year, $2 million-ish deal. *slaps forehead* I can't find the story in print, but Dan Patrick announced it on his radio show earlier in the day.

Sass 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2005 If Peter Angelos has any brains to him, he'll trade Migs for Manny and swap one (basket case) star player for another. Both guys could benefit from the change of scenary too. The Dodgers should also talk to the D-backs about a Javier/Milton trade since both guys would help fill slots on the teams they're traded to. Styles 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2005 If Peter Angelos has any brains to him, he'll trade Migs for Manny and swap one (basket case) star player for another. Both guys could benefit from the change of scenary too. This would be horrible trade from Baltimore's perspective. Ramirez is older, plays an easier position to replace, has a more expensive contract and much worse attitude than Tejada. (I mean if the guy hated playing in Boston which just won a World Series, how will he be in Baltimore?) It's a Red Sox fantasy though. Only way it would work is if a third team like Anaheim got involved to take Ramirez and send the O's some of their highly rated young players like Kotchman, Mathis, Wood, etc. so the O's could rebuild in the process. But best case and most likely scenario is this was just frustration boiling over and it will be a wakeup call to go make some moves with what's left of the off season. the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2005 ESPN radio is saying the Yanks and Phils are in deep talks for a trade between Jason Michaels and Tanyon Sturtze. If this is true, and the Phils for some reason agree to this, Cashman better fucking do this. I very much doubt that trade rumor has much validity. They were likely just parroting this NY Post article. Meanwhile, the price of obtaining Jason Michaels from the Phillies has gone down but probably not enough to make a deal. After hearing "no" for two weeks, the Phillies no longer are demanding Chien-Ming Wang in return. Instead, the Phillies like reliever Tanyon Sturtze and left-handed prospect Sean Henn for Michaels, who would play center. The Yankees have asked the Phillies about Michaels, 29, for two years but were told he wasn't available. With the acquisition of Aaron Rowand, Michaels has been shopped. But the inclusion of Henn, 25, has some in the Yankees organization wary because Michaels has never been a regular player. Unless Gillick really likes Henn, I still don't see this as happening. It appears, through the acquisitions of Santana and Booker, he has the right idea about getting cheap, interchangeable talent to fill out the bullpen. I don't see him trading one of the few chips he has on someone like Sturtze (again, unless he really likes Henn and sees him in the pen this year). Another note from the article, the Blue Jays apparently offered Miguel Batista for Milton Bradley that slowed up Cubs/Dodgers talks.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2005 Mets completed the LoDuca deal, sending Dante Brinkley as the PTBNL to Fla. Congrats to the Mets for managing to not give away another top 10 prospect.
Failed Bridge 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2005 I'm praying that the Manny for Miggy deal ends up happening. From there I wouldn't mind seeing the Red Sox sign Reggie Sanders on the cheap to play LF. I also agree that if Loretta is healthy then giving up only Mirabelli for him was highway robbery. Shoppach can do just as well as he did most likely. Let Marte play first base with Lowell at third.

Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted December 11, 2005 Looks like the Cards are gonna have to look elsewhere for that big starter if they had Matt Morris in mind for that role. Failed Bridge 0 Report post Posted December 11, 2005 Red Sox contact Roger Clemens' agents Link A rotation of Clemens Schilling Beckett Papelbon Wakefield for one year would just be sick if all of them stayed healthy. It also makes Clement more expendable and with the market for starting pitching right now...well he'd make a very good trade chip one would think. Nothing close to happening but its still fun to think of as a Red Sox fan.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted December 11, 2005 I read something about Manny then wanting an extension, and Angelos not going to give him one if the trade happens. I'd rather have a disgruntled Miggie than anything Manny. Great hitter but his attitude when he's happy is about 1000 times worse than any unhappy player in baseball. Guest OSIcon Report post Posted December 11, 2005 I'm praying that the Manny for Miggy deal ends up happening. I really doubt Miggy gets traded. He had a phone interview with Comcast Sportsnet today and he said that "he never said he wanted to be traded". He just doesn't want to keep losing. The basic gist was that he wants the organization to make some moves, specifically in the pitching department, so that they have a chance of winning. If they aren't going to do that, then he doesn't want to stick around on a losing team. It was the impression that I got the entire from it but most people have made it out to be a "trade or else" demand where he completely wants off the team. I am thinking, and maybe it is overly-optimistic, that the O's will get off their butts and make some moves to improve the team. Tejada said in the Comcast interview that he hopes his speaking out will help the team improve and hopefully it will. Though it would go against everything Angelos usually does if they make a bunch of moves (from what is left) to improve for next season. On another note, there was a rumor going around about a Manny for Jay Gibbons, Hayden Penn, Julio, and Rodrigo Lopez deal. I think it is just that, a rumor, because it doesn't make a ton of sense for Boston unless they really feel that Gibbons is on the verge of breaking through or something. I also doubt the O's would take on Manny's contract, but it is nice to think about. Despite what Tejada and others think, the O's offense let them down just as much last season as the pitching did (that isn't to say pitching isn't a problem though). That deal would help out a bunch. 2GOLD 0 Report post Posted December 11, 2005 That Manny for all those guys deal makes zero sense for the Orioles. You need pitching so you'll trade away basically all of it for a left fielder? Penn and Lopez have potential to be really damn good. Fuck that deal. Actually the trade would be awesome from the O's perspective but it's doubtful Boston would do it unless they're really desperate to trade Manny, which they shouldn't be and if there's any validity to swining Penn and Gibbons (both rumored to be coveted by Philly) along with Clement to the Phillies for Abreu. Anyway, it means getting Ramirez, a bonafide superstar while keeping Tejada which improves the offense sufficienty (lots of RBIs) pacifying Tejada and the fans, and you're giving up 3 players that are expendable and have been rumored to go in various deals anyway (seriously, Lopez is no great shakes. He's thouroughly mediocre, but he has great career numbers at Fenway and against the Red Sox so they might have an inflated opinion of him) and you're only giving up 1 future prospect in Penn, which is worth it for getting back a superstar. Again, I don't think it happens because Boston probably won't go for it and Angelos probably still won't take on a 20 million dollar contract. Oh also, by trading away Lopez it forces Angelos to actually go sign some more pitching, thus improving our pitching staff too by deafault. Baltimore: Ramirez Boston: Abreu, R. Lopez, Julio Philly: Clement, Gibbons, Penn
