Bring Back The World Wrestling Federation

Recommended Posts

I think someone should go to a raw or sd taping andf site in the front or close to the front rows and wear the scratch wwf logo from head to toe, even paint it on your face, so then theyd have to have a constant blur going on the whole night fromt ehat camera view.

They would just throw you out.

If Savage got to snap into Steph's beef jerky, meat curtains and all, then kudos to him.

I know I was just joking about that logo thing (but actually you could sue them if they thre you out for that no?)

They can throw you out for pretty much whatever they want.

I think fans are finally getting used to the name change.

However, I personally would change what the 'E' in WWE stands for.

World Wrestling Enterprise would take the focus off of the fact that wrestling is 'entertainment' and put emphasis on the fact that wrestling is a business. I think it would be a slight improvement, plus someone could say 'the WWE' and it would make perfect sense.

Just changing the name would do nothing. But changing the name would indicate a change in attitude.

A wrestling federation sounds legit. It sounds competitive. Wrestling entertainment does not. If I were in chart I would come up with some name that makes the whole thing sound more serious. But again changing the name by itself does nothing, what matters is the underlying attitude.

Something like the World Wrestling Promotion would be far better than WWE.

The name "World Wrestling Entertainment" is fine and they needed the smallest change possible as not to hurt the goodwill their brand acquired.

The only way the WWE could go back to being the WWF is by buying the name from the Fund and they don't have the money for that.

Changing the Set is much more relevant than changing their name. As is changing the logo. If someone who watched 5 years ago that isn't watching now sees everything is pretty much the same as before (which is what they chose to leave), why would they go back to watch it?

All i do is complain about WWE these days, i really don't know why I watch it. Seriously. I watch it every week and every week I'm left disappointed. Someone help.

On topic, i wouldn't care if it was called the My Little Pony Federation, as long as they actually put some wrestling on instead of this for-6-year-old-kids-transformers-powerpuff-shit i'm seeing now.

I don't know who WWE is trying to cater to, but it isn't 6 year olds.

Yes it is. John Cena? Chain Gang? 6 year olds with those little wrist bands and chains? Cena is still champ despite being booed out the building every week? See the connection?

I never understood why they just didn't change it to World Wrestling Federation Entertainment. They could still refer to the titles as the World Wrestling Federation and they could have created a new block style WWF logo with the word entertainment on the bottom?

Of if they intended on doing the brand split, since they own the name WCW, one brand could have been World-Wide Wrestling Federation and the other could have been World Championship Wrestling - World Wrestling Entertainment would just be the parent company of both organizations.

I would have been really excited by the prospect of Raw versus Nitro, WWF vs WCW, but WCW doesn't exist and never has if WWE have anything to do with it. It's ruined the whole fantasy of the thing. We all know it COULD have been great, but you know Vince, he obviously reads our opinions, takes them on board, and does the EXACT opposite.

EDIT: What i think WWE needs, is more cow-bell, baby.

I was always under the impression that they didn't necessarily have to stop using the World Wrestling Federation name, just the scratch logo and possibly the initials [Edit:] while in Europe.

Anyway, I agree that name change wasn't that big a deal, since people fans were already leaving before the change (it certainly didn't help matters, though). I've gotta say that, as minor as it is, I really miss hearing "your winner, and NEW WORLD WRESTLING FEDERATION CHAMPION..." after a title change.

The modus operandi of professional wrestling is to seem legitimate and galvanize the masses in such a way that the people watching it forget that it's predetermined. By telling people that what they're watching is Entertainment, it undermines the masculine brawn, virility, and viciousness that is emblematic of professional wrestling. This is none more apparent than when you're seeing two guys battle it out in the ring and then notice the word ENTERTAINMENT printed in BIG letters on the apron; it takes you out of the moment, the match, and the presentation.

Get my drift? Going back to calling the promotion World Wrestling Federation will legitimize the product -- at least from bell to bell -- and will allow fans to once again immerse themselves in a world of fiction where wrestling seems real. Like Vince McMahon said, Perception IS Reality. The wonderment of wrestling happens in those moments where you perceive wrestling to be real; and, that's how the nexus between fan and performer is engendered.

You cannot be serious.

While the name has a negligible effect on one's enjoyment of the *current* product, I will say that I'd like WWE to come to some agreement with the WWFund about the blurring of the logo on past events. It's only a minor thing, but at least we could get some quality retrospective DVDs (especially for Attitude-era stars like the Rock, Austin and Angle) without blurring.

agreed, but either Vince is playing hardball, or the Fund is being a jerk possibly both

If anything, I'd say they're trying to attract young teenagers.

I don't mean to take sides, but I work at a camp with little kids(around 6 years old or so) and the ones who watch wrestling all love John Cena and imitate everything he does. Maybe he wasn't INTENDED for them, but they seem to be part of his fanbase.

Yeah they would either kick you out or just put a tarp over you.

(About the dressing head to toe in scratch logos.)

I was actually considering running into the ring (or trying anyways) during the WrestleMania 22 Main event decked head to toe in the WWF scratch logo.

THAT would kick all kinds of ass.

And mine would be included, I'm sure. :P

How many times do we have to say it?

It's (wait for it) VINCE'S fault that they lost the name.

Boy, I really hate the current WWF for fucking up the World Wrestling Federation. Of course, they (the fucking panda group) had the name first, but it still pisses me off.

EDIT - Ah fuck it.

You know, the guy who posted this topic does have a point about it seeming more legit under World Wrestling Federation. I watch 24/7 and the old wwf stuff just has the feel to it that today's shows are desperately missing. It seemed like the wrestlers were actually competing in a sport. Today, there are focusing too much on hollywood crap like last week's Tuesday smackdown. It wouldn't be that bad if it was entertaining, but it's not. World Wrestling Entertainment is a lame name and I hate when they refer to guys like Bret Hart or Sammartino with the phrase.

If they could bring back the wwf it would also help the brand split. Let smackdown be WWE and raw be WWF. Which one do you think Vince would concentrate on? Creative couldn't even come up with a creative name for the brands or the new company name. Vince should have just gone back to World Wide Wrestling Federation. Yeah, the w is redundant in terms of saying the initials, but saying the whole name aloud for the matches sound much better than World Wrestling Entertainment. World Championship Wrestling actually sounds much better too.

Anyways, this aint gonna happen. Whatever happened to the Hulkamania name disaster too? I know Hogan bought some of it or something. Leave it to Vince to mess up his two most vital names in company history. Next thing we know one of the Beatles gets the name WrestleMania taken away

Awfully prescient

IS WWE PREPARING TO BECOME WWF AGAIN?

On November 2nd of this year, WWE registered the trademark "WORLD WRESTLING FEDERATION", with the usage explanation being, "Entertainment services, namely, the production and exhibition of professional wrestling events rendered live and through the media of television; providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network."
