Damaramu 0 Report post Posted December 8, 2005 I was thinking about gimmicks/angles that I grew up with in the 80's and early 90's and sometimes I just wonder....who came up with that and why? Why did this guy get that gimmick? I was wondering if anyone else wondered that about certain gimmicks or angles and wanted to wonder aloud and see if anyone had any ideas? Like who came up with the Million Dollar Man for Ted Dibiase and why? I have others but I just have to gather my thoughts but I thought I'd throw that one out there. It was always an interesting character but I never had any idea who came up with it and why.
TheInsane 0 Report post Posted December 8, 2005 Great topic. Sadly I dont really know alot of stories except that the Stone Cold gimmick was proposed by Steve Austins wife when his "ringmaster" thing failed. Dunno if his wife at that time was Debra though. EdwardKnoxII 0 Report post Posted December 8, 2005 No cause they didn't start dating till sometime after Debra come into the WWF.
Cran Da Maniac 0 Report post Posted December 8, 2005 Like who came up with the Million Dollar Man for Ted Dibiase and why? Vince McMahon. The character was a caricarture of VKM himself
Alro 0 Report post Posted December 8, 2005 I had always heard that Jim Cornette came up with the Goldust character. I don't know if that is true or not.
Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted December 8, 2005 I think Austin's wife at that time was still Lady Blossom (forget her real name), but she was his manager when he first debuted in WCW in the early '90s.
Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted December 8, 2005 To add on to this thread, I always thought it was hillarious how many people took credit for the nWo angle (from when it originally started). I mean, I've heard it credited to, or the following people take credit for it: - Eric Bischoff - Paul Orndorff - DDP - Kevin Nash and Scott Hall - Dusty Rhodes Probably forgetting a few as well. The Tino Standard 0 Report post Posted December 8, 2005 Austin's wife at the time was an English woman (she lives overseas now with Austin's kids), I think Lady Blossom. She had little, if anything, to do with creating the character, but she accidentally gave Austin the name for it when she told him to "drink your tea before it gets stone cold." Guest JMA Report post Posted December 8, 2005 The IWC came up with the JBL character a long time before it was introduced. Even down to such details as changing his hometown to New York. Of course, Vince is a huge Dallas mark and probably wanted to create a JR Ewing gimmick for a long time.

If that's the case who's going to be the one to shoot JBL? And who's going to be one that dies and a year later we find them in the shower and their death was a dream? Oh, shoot as in GUN, not shoot as in "real fight" Um...a returning Chyna with her blaster thing. 2)Obvious answer would be Undertaker...but to be different, I'll say "Poor" Shelton Benjamin
hyperchord24 0 Report post Posted December 8, 2005 I believe Bischoff did get the idea for the nWo from watching wrestling in Japan. I think Pat Patterson came up with the undertaker's gimmick.

Hunter's Torn Quad 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2005 I believe Bischoff did get the idea for the nWo from watching wrestling in Japan. Correct. Eric was in Japan for one of the New Japan vs UWF-I dome cards, saw the heat was off the charts, and asked why.

Guest The Mandingo Warrior Report post Posted December 12, 2005 I read somewhere that part of the reason that the "million dollar man" gimmick was created was because Donald Trump was very heavily featured in the media at the time (87/88), and this gave vince the idea for the character. Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted December 12, 2005 Another one I was thinking of, after Edge mentioning him on RAW Monday night, Terry Gordy. In '96 he came in to feud with the Undertaker as the Executioner. Wouldn't it have been ok if he had just come in as Terry Gordy (it's not like he was an obscure name in wrestling at that point)? Or was it his idea to put on a mask, since he was going to end up jobbing a decent amount? Did Vince just think it would be a good idea for him to have that gimmick, or what? MillenniumMan831 0 Report post Posted December 12, 2005 Maybe they didn't want to tarnish Gordy's name by having him put on stinker matches. Stick him under the mask and protect his name while he collects a few last major paychecks. Oh hell, I don't know.

Stick him under the mask and protect his name while he collects a few last major paychecks. Oh hell, I don't know. I think that was sort of the idea. If he somehow regained form and started putting on good matches, you could always unmask him.
Jericholic82 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2005 Austin's wife at the time was an English woman (she lives overseas now with Austin's kids), I think Lady Blossom. She had little, if anything, to do with creating the character, but she accidentally gave Austin the name for it when she told him to "drink your tea before it gets stone cold." Jeannie Clark is her name, she was Chris Adams ex-wife (and was introd to wrestling after Austin turned on Adams, who was his trainer and mentor down in Texas) as for the stone cold name, Austin saw a HBO special on a killer called The Iceman and that made him think of a new gimmick of being a cold-blooded heel with no mercy. thats when his wife suppposably said that. Though for some reason I swear I can remember one announcer (maybe Vince) saying that he was a stone cold person (this was during the time when he was still the ringmaster), Hell they made no big deal just one week on RAW they called him Stone Cold Steve Austin (the first time they mentioned his actual name in WWF since before he was just "The Ringmaster")

Steve J. Rogers 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2005 Whose idea was it for Rocky Miavia to go from Blue Chipper to a walking parody of the modern day "self absorbed" athlete? From all "mainstream" accounts (Rock books, interviews) They told Duane to be more like Duane
claydude14 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2005 Well if he went to "The U" the self absorbed athlete probably was an extension of him somewhat.
