Jesus, look no further than the Four fucking Horsemen. Arn, Ole & Tully were never the most muscular of guys but they were fucking TOP OF THE LINE workers who could go for an hour in the ring and act like it were only five minutes. Even Flair, to a lesser extent, wasn't overly muscular or toned.

 

Jake, I hope they sign someone CW Anderson and make him WWE Champion JUST to piss you off. That would be nice.

If you have a standing start, looking like a legitimate threat, as opposed to a (relatively) out of shape redneck gives you an advantage. Cade looks like more of a threat than Murdoch.

Flair/Edge wouldn't need the IC belt. I'd say have Murdoch take the belt off of Flair (maybe have Edge-terference to keep Flair 'strong' for their feud) and have Murdoch feud with another midcarder over the IC belt.

 

Of course, I can't think of a face midcarder for him to be facing. I'd have dug a series of Tajiri/Murdoch matches ... but it looks like that's not happening.

That's interesting. I used to think they did too many break-up feuds, back in the 80s and 90s. But, maybe my memory is playng tricks on me. You're certainly right, now, though. They just let teams disappear these days. It doesn't make sense.

I don't think fans cared enough about the team in the first place to have any kind of reaction to their breakup. It's not like they were Edge and Christian or the Hardy Boyz. Fans probably thought Cade and Murdoch were local talent brought in to job to the WWE talent.

For some wrestlers, the break-up feud works fine. Although a Big Show/Kane feud doesn't sound too exciting.

No, the fans aren't going to cheer Murdoch. He's a heel. Thus, he'd be booed. And I can only speak for myself, but I don't decide how much I like or dislike a guy based on how built he is. "Oh, I can't dislike Murdoch, he's not as jacked up as other wrestlers. He must suck and stuff."

 

Secondly, the NWA's success or failure had nothing to do with how built it's wrestlers are. Period. If you think that's the case, you're stunningly unintelligent. Besides the fact that you'd have to ignore the fact that they had a shitload of guys that were jacked or at worst in good con(Nikita & Kruschev, Road Warriors, Magnum TA, Von Erichs, just to name a handful) ... you'd have to ignore the fact that the NWA was uber-successful even with 'fat' guys.

 

And the Horsemen are indeed comparable, since people were talking about how in shape wrestlers were, not how good of a wrestler.

I think Dick Murdoch was one of the best in-ring workers of all-time and I doubt he'd make the cover of Muscle & Fitness during his prime. Body physique is overrated in wrestling if the guy can't connect with the fans through promos or in-ring body language. Junkyard Dog also wasn't an adonis and yet he managed to sell out the (former) Superdome, something WCW never could do.

Here's what I don't get. Cade was about to be let go when he pushed for the idea of a cowboyish character. They got the gold, were jobbed out and in a meaningless "feud" with Hurri-Rosie/Heartthrobs, and now obviously everyone is wanting to push Murdoch since he's actually getting a reaction. Plus one key to wrestling is facial expressions and Murdoch has been solid so far.

 

The point is, it happened so fast that it further puts the long term planning of the WWE creative into question.

Man vivi, your making me wish CW was in the fed now. I was a fan of his work in ECW, and I think he could do quite well for himself in the WWE if given the chance. Hell, he might now since physiques may not be a major priority now.
