Placebo Effect 0 Report post Posted December 17, 2005 I love The Simpsons' current brand of humor. I love the absurdity, the unweaving of cliches, asshole, alcoholic, uncaring Homer, depressed Moe, etc. I don't know why people feel the need to "like" a character in a comedy. DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2005 Interesting that in the Homerpalooza episode, Matt Groening mentions sitting next to Billy Corrigan at a WrestleMania and not recognizing him. He called it "World Wrestling Federation", though.

He called it "World Wrestling Federation", though. And on a kind of similar note, Vince Russo mentioned in his new book how he felt Bart Simpson appearing on the cover of WWF Magazine was the absolute low light for the magazine. King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2005 I'll go on record as saying that the Simpsons now is much, much better than they were a few years ago. Not back to their peak, but there was a definite slump that they came out of there. Agreed. The recent episodes are certainly better than Season 10/11/12ish, when they just seemed to be going through the motions somewhat. They'll never have the consistancy or the 'peak' seasons again because the characters have changed too much to go back to their most successful incarnations. But, they've improved a little, for sure. Anyone know the UK release date?
The Amazing Rando 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2005 Homer wanted Frank to like him, not because he liked Frank, but because he hated being disliked. There is this disconnect between Homer and the world around him -even with his family- that shows this utter lack of the humanity in the character. There is no heart. It is all ego. Homer didn't have to cry at Frank Grimes' funeral, but to fall asleep? You can't justify that. There is no good in that. There is no heart in that. Homer is a bad person as a result of it. Grimes saw right through what Homer was doing, and his insanity came from the fact that no one else did. Yes, the Simpsons have dabbled in the "real world" before, Homer at Bat was one of their best episodes ever and they used real world baseball players. But it was never in a stylistic way. It wasn't trendy. Now everything the Simpsons does is trendy. Okay. I agree. Though you could also say he fell asleep cause he always falls asleep in church. Though that is doubtful as the reasoning behind this particular sleep.
Failed Bridge 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2005 Marge Be Not Proud isn't all that bad after watching it for the first time in a couple years. I still dislike the Don Brodka character (even though I do like Lawrence Tierney) along with that spoiled kid and his mother. I find the voice for the spoiled kid to be as annoying as Matt Groening found the voice for Marvin Monroe to be.
Shanghai Kid 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2005 Mother Simpson is a real nice episode, gotta like the ending with Homer just looking at the stars. Season 7 also has one of the best Halloween specials. I love when Krusty sees Groundskeeper Willy rise up and says "don't dream about me anymore kid". Failed Bridge 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2005 Bart: [sighs with relief] Willy's gone for good. Now I can get back to my normal dreams: me and Krusty winning the Super Bowl! [Krusty, dressed in a football uniform, runs up as a crowd cheers] Krusty: Bart, there's two seconds left. Now listen up. It's your basic Statue of Liberty play with one twist: you throw it to me! Knute Rockne called it the forward pass. [behind Bart, a giant tartan spiderlike bagpipe with Willy's head on it rises from the sandbox] Now, the clock's still running, so it's important we start this play as quickly as possible. Bart: [getting grabbed] Aah! Krusty: Oh, boy. Don't dream about me no more, kid. [runs off]
Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted December 19, 2005 Ok, maybe now's a good to finally bring this up. The line "Oh, I'm sorry, my wife thought that was gangbusters." I have no idea what that means.
