MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2005 WCW had better matches in 2000? Their matches sucked. Hell, they had entire PPVs that year that never had a match that rose above **. This comparison is absurd. Of course it's WCW 2000 that was worse. Has WWE lost 60 million dollars this year? Have they put the world title on a 3rd rate actor? Does putting the (a) title on a wrestler who would soon surely become a 3rd rate actor count?
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2005 Mark Madden made WCW 2000 too painful to stand. Stevie Ray was awesome but nothing can ever overcome the suck that was Madden. He had the kind of voice that made me want to punch the television no matter what the fuck he was talking about. No matter what WCW had in 2000, I wouldn't care. Madden killed it. I still contend to this day what really killed WCW was Mark Madden being allowed to talk to a worldwide audience.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2005 One of my favourite moments was when Stevie Ray called Reys bronco buster "face full of stuff" and Tony said "It's the bronco buster"... Stevie just didn't understand the nuances of the move and how it differed between man and woman... he was so confused, because he was so excited to call it. THIS was the magic of WCW, my brothers. Something that can be looked back on fondly and makes you smile. "Tony, what was that move?" "That's a death valley driver, Stevie" "It's the DVD!" (-Tenay). RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2005 SNOOCHIE BOOCHIES. C'mon!! When I first heard Madden, I was like "Holy Crap, that dude just doesn't give a fuck!" because he was all shooty and shit, but then I realized he was a tool shed. Though he did say "FLY FATASS FLY!" when Hugh Morris went up top, so there's bonus points.

2GOLD 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2005 WWE should have hired Stevie Ray and had him replace the King. I bet him and Joey Styles would be awesome at the table. Since Joey knows almost every name for a move and Stevie doesn't have a clue what one of them is called. Damn I miss Stevie Ray.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2005 See, WCW was like Homer Simpson from Seasons 2-7. In other words, they were lovably dumb. WWE is like Homer Simpson Seasons 8-20, frustratingly "STOP GRINNING LIKE AN IDIOT!!!" dumb.

CBright7831 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2005 WCW in 2000 had David Arquette as World Champ. That is worse than anything that happened in the WWE this year by a mile. Well, if Ric Flair's book can be believed (and I dont see why hed lie about this), at least Arquette treated the title with a bit of class and dignity. This is more than can be said of the modern wwe booking staff. In 2000 I had little or no problem watching a full 2 or 3 hours of WWF or WCW....now its phyiscally impossible for me to do that with Raw. Not to mention Arquette (who is actually a BIG wrestling fan) did not want to do it, but Russo insisted.

Sass 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2005 WCW 2000. The WWE has *never* collapsed as bad as WCW did in the early months of 2000. The WWE heavyweight title has been *very* well protected by the company over the past 2 years compared to the number of title vacancies WCW suffered in 2000 alone. MillenniumMan831 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2005 (edited) In the "Countdown to Armageddon" (Royal Rumble) match on Thunder in Oct 2000, one of the Harris Boys comes to the ring which triggers this banter: Stevie Ray: He rolled into the ring. Tony Schiavone: He really did, he rolled right on in there. Stevie: He rolled into the ring!! Schiavone: And now pounding away on Alex Wright. Stevie: HE ROLLED INTO THE RING!!! Schiavone: I KNOW! Stevie: HE'S SAVING HIS STRENGTH!!! HE ROLLED INTO THE RING!!! Definitely my fondest Stevie Ray moment. Edited December 29, 2005 by MillenniumMan831
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2005 Stevie was the fucking man. Every time I see Booker in some shitty angle I always say "Why don't they sign Stevie Ray? They could do something with him." The apex of the Stevie/Madden announce team was Mayhem 2000. I rewatched it this summer and man that was some funny shit right there. I think when all is said and done WCW 2000 was sadder than WWE 2005 but was more perversely entertaining. WCW 2000 was actually quite a bit better than WCW 1999. Guest Hadley Report post Posted December 29, 2005 WCW 1999 gave us the best ppv of the year (for any company), Spring Stampede '99. (Though there wasnt much competition, only backlash and summerslam were the only other decent ppvs of the year, though ive heard good things about st valentines day massacre, uncensored, unforgiven, mayhem, no mercy, and armageddon). However, after that show, everything went to hell.

So i guess that makes TNA Family Guy (and jarrett and 3LK are simply the annoying "owww, owwww" scenes (where peter hurts his knee). Hmm, this probably makes ROH futurama, so whats king of the hill and american dad? ROH would be some cartoon with a really loud, really interested laugh track. In fact, this laugh track would be different, because it actually laughs at the characters while they're telling the joke. Y'see, the laugh track would never shut the fuck up and it would chant stuff like "This is awesome", "We can't see shit" when something happened off screen, and there would be dueling chants for major characters (and recurring characters). The stereotypical Japs on the show would be greeted with chants of "Arigato" at the end of their scenes. Often, the characters on the program would talk about the laugh track and commend the laugh track for its interest in the show. If we are led to believe that this is a parallel of ROH, all of the dialogue would be hard to hear (unless the new sound system is any good). Now, don't get me wrong, all the voice acting on the program would be really fluid and smart, but it would be often overshadowed by this loud, boisterous laugh track. Each episode would close out with screams of "Thank you", "Please come back" and "Episode of the year" while the credits rolled. So no, I don't think Futurama is like ROH. RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2005 Oh man, the WCW title must've changed at least 20 times in 2000. And about 90% of that was in the first 6 months.

ChrisMWaters 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2005 The WCW heavyweight title was a joke in 2000 while the WWE heavyweight belt has been booked well for over 2 years now. I agree. Despite the hatred for Cena, I'm enjoying the fact that both he and Batista are still the WWE and World Champs respectively. Gives more of an old-school feel, with the long title reigns. And for the record, Cena's is longer by almost a half hour.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2005 Of course, the fact that the WWE books their title(s) better than WCW doesn't necessarily mean that I care about it or who holds it more.
Sass 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2005 I'll take a healthy Scott Steiner WCW heavyweight title reign over any Cena or Batista title reigns. Big Poppa Pump was tha hook up.
Guest Report post Posted December 29, 2005 WCW was somewhat interesting in that everyone was doing something, no matter how fucked up and stupid it was. With WWE, I don't really see that. All I see is a company that will run a suicide angle, will drive "Eddie's car" into a stage after he died and doesn't know what the hell they are doing with Smackdown. Raw or Smackdown can't hold my attention for more than 10 minutes, but I can pop in a VHS of an old Raw or Nitro and be entertained for the full duration. Something's wrong with that. cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted December 30, 2005 I agree that Spring Stampede 99 was a very good PPV, but man it all totally fell apart after that. By WCW sucking in 1999 I refer to the "Post DDP title win in the 4 way on Nitro till Russo arrived" period. That was the worst shit of all time. That's like a 6 month period of time that was a black hole from hell. I mean hell, have you guys attemped to watch BATB 99 or GAB 99?? As far as title runs go, I prefer it when it changes a couple of times a year, but nothing near what WCW did in 2000 (where it killed the belts entirely). 1992 in the WWF for instance, the year began with it vacant...Flair won it at the Rumble, Macho at WM, Flair back after SS, then Bret beat Flair at year's end. Or WCW that same year...Luger had it to begin, Sting beat him, Vader beat Sting, Ron Simmons beat Vader, Vader won it back at year's end. To me, a champion nowdays shouldn't hold the title for a year. That's just boring as crap with 2 TV shows a week.
Mole 0 Report post Posted December 30, 2005 Wasn't WCW losing money in 98? I can't remember what Meltz wrote about WWE's money situation, but I think he said they are doing alright because of their overseas tour. Can anyone confirm this?
