What was worse?

Ok, before the current year, wcw 2000 was seen as the absolute nadir for wrestling. Would you say that the current product is better or even worse than that period?

Let's see what WWE's given us this year as far as crap goes (I know I'll leave stuff out, so feel free to add):

- Shelton's poor usage

- Hassan's terrorist attack, subsequent death

- Angle the rapist

- Jillian and her thing

- Matt M-M-Morgan

- Eugene taking Angle's medals

- JR gets fired, ass surgery

- Angle hates America

- Tim White offs himself

- Orton UT feud (from the lowrider, to the mindgames)

Pretty bad stuff, but does it top WCW 2000? Again, feel free to add on...

- Viagra

- Arquette as WCW champ

- Steiner beats up lots of Cruisers

- Russo as WCW champ

- Goldberg won't follow the script

- BATB fiasco

- Judy Bagwell on a forklift

- David Flair vs. Buff Bagwell: Who is Stacy's impregnator?

- Sting feuds with Vampiro, gets set on fire

- Sid's "streak"

- Sting's 2 hour title run

I know there's a lot more... I'd say WCW still edges out WWE this year, but a solid effort from WWE to try to top (bottom?) WCW 2000.

WCW may have had just as many dumb angles as WWE this year but at least with WCW, it was entertaining crap.

No it wasn't. That's why the ratings plummeted and they went out of business.

At least with WWE 2005, you have some decent matches every once in awhile. Usually Raw doesn't totally suck from the opening to the end. It has enough good parts in between the crap to keep most of us watching. Sometimes really good. WCW 2000 never had anything close to this summer's heel HBK vs Hogan program for example. Or matches as good as HBK/Shelton, Rey/Eddy, Angle/Jannetty, Angle/HBK. WCW 98-99 vs WWE 2005 would be a better comparison.

WWE 2005

Back in 2000 I was still watching WCW. At times it was still good and I found the crap to be perversly entertaining. However, I simply could not be bothered with WWE in the latter half of the year so I think it's worse.

In terms of horrible ideas, WCW had more. But they had better matches, and it was overall less boring than WWE now. so WCW wins by not boring me to death.

WCW had better matches in 2000? Their matches sucked. Hell, they had entire PPVs that year that never had a match that rose above **.

This comparison is absurd. Of course it's WCW 2000 that was worse. Has WWE lost 60 million dollars this year? Have they put the world title on a 3rd rate actor? Have they done ultra weird shoot angles where guys go against the booking of the match and tear down the 4th wall? Have they gone and released crucial guys from the upper card like Eddie, Benoit, Malenko, and Saturn (yeah they released people but most were jobbers)?

WWE has had its share of clunker angles and gimmicks this year, but WWE hasn't been anywhere near that level of incompetence.

2005 isn't even the worst year in WWF history. 1995, 1999 & 2002 were easily worse.

WCW 2000 was much worse. Aside from some cruiser stuff at the end of the year in the openers once Russo left, it was completely horrid, top to bottom. WCW 1999 wasn't much better.

WWE 2005 isn't even close to being as bad to WCW 2000.

It'd be more interesting trying to figure out who was worst in 1995 and 1999 when they went head on.

WCW matches in 00, while not five star classics, weren't near as slow and plodding as WWE style is now. I can't stand any matches in WWE unless it involves Angle, HBK, Benoit, Rey, Benjamin or any combo of them. At least in WCW there weren't restrictions on wrestlers in the ring, especially the cruisers.

WCW '00 > WWE '05, at least in terms of keeping me entertained. I don't know if it was just a train-wreck mentality, but I used to enjoy watching Nitro back then. I haven't watched more than 15-20 minutes of Raw or Smackown in months.

Bad and boring vs. worse but entertaining.

WCW in 2000 had you at least hoping for the company to get better and that they were trying to change and get better (their idea of better just sucked). WWE in 2005 established that all hope is lost. They are clearly not trying to improve, they are clearly happy where they are, and they clearly are never going to change.

Agreed. Plus towards the end of the year WCW was putting together a great cruiser division again, which basically trumps anything the WWE has done this year.

They'll never have a good cruiser division because, unless it's on Velocity, it's not allowed to be anything but smaller guys wrestling a big man style. I wanna punch Cole in the face every time he says "great cruiser action you'll only see on Smackdown". I know it's his job, but he embodies that mentality of WWF for me.

As far as a comparison of the two: I don't think it's entirely fair to compare based on who was losing money. In 2000, if you didn't want to watch crappy WCW, you could go watch WWF which was having one of its better years wrestling-wise. In 2005, you really have no straight-up alternative. That said, I'd say WCW was worse. I'm fighting being biased here having just watched one of the worst Raws I've ever seen, but I think Smackdown in general I usually enjoy watching(despite all the stupidty), they can usually break out a good matchr or two. And Raw has Angle, the end.

WCW in 2000 had David Arquette as World Champ. That is worse than anything that happened in the WWE this year by a mile.

I never said that WCW in 2000 didn't have its jobber, car wreck charms. It certainly did. Hell, it was really hilarious actually. But it was hilarious in an "I can't believe they are fucking up this bad" kind of way.

1995 was easily worse than this year, Kahran is right about that. But why 1999? I agree the in ring action was lacking but business for the WWF was booming big time and ratings were awesome. It was a bleh year workrate wise, but a banner year for making $$.

WCW in 2000 at least had some things to get excited about. I can't recall getting excited about a single thing that went on in the WWE during 2005. The most interesting thing was Matt Hardy getting fired cause Lita fucked Edge and the crowd biting on it, and the only hand the WWE had in that was firing the dude and then burying him after his return. Woopee~! WCW had a 2 week period where they showed signs of being a good wrestling company, which is two weeks more than the WWE.

The only decent things to come out of WCW in 2000 (that I can remember) was Three Count w/ Tank Abbott dancing and the Boogie Knights. WWE 2005 had a hell of a lot more than that.

Why oh why won't WWE get Disco and Alex Wright? I've been asking that for 4 years. They had/possibly still have the potential to be as good a comedy team as Booker T and Goldust and with much better matches than those two could have.

YES! The Disqo Duck! Bring that thing back! Didn't they have a ladder match on Nitro between The Boogie Knights and The Filthy Animals where the duck was on the top of the ladder instead of a belt? In fact I might have that match on tape!

Which would that be? The two weeks after Bash at the Beach, before Russo started doing the whole Nash/Steiner/Goldberg "shoot" angle?

Well, if Ric Flair's book can be believed (and I dont see why hed lie about this), at least Arquette treated the title with a bit of class and dignity. This is more than can be said of the modern wwe booking staff.

In 2000 I had little or no problem watching a full 2 or 3 hours of WWF or WCW....now its phyiscally impossible for me to do that with Raw.
