Failed Bridge

2006 NFL Off-Season

Recommended Posts

I'm excited about the idea of Moulds coming to the Eagles.

Apparently, a 4th round pick would be sufficient. The Eagles have three of them. They'd have to work out a contract, most likely a 3 year deal, and then it would be settled.

I don't know how much longer Moulds will last as a starting NFL WR, though. He's really lost a step in the last few years... and he's never had the best hands. Plus, he's like most WR's, in that he's a loudmouth, whiny, troublemaking asshole.

But for a 4th round pick, I'd say it's good value.

Not to sound antagonistic here or anything, but signing Moulds to a big contract would be something of a waste. He hasn't done much of note for years now, he's scored 10 touchdowns over the past 3 years, the same amount he scored in his best year, 2002 (where he had 100 receptions for 1,287 yards as well). He'll also be 33 at the start of the season.

I mean, I suppose it's an upgrade to throw to, and maybe with a more stable offense (not to mention stable position at quarterback) he'll thrive once again, but he's a bit of a gamble.

I saw a decent point brought up about Moulds today that makes me think I underestimated him somewhat:

w/ Kelly Holcomb at QB: 7 games, 54 catches, 588 yards, 4TDs

w/ J.P. Losman: 8 games, 27 catches, 228 yards, 0 TDs

That looks like enough of a pattern to take into consideration. While I don't think he is a stud anymore, he still might be able to be a nice contributor and create a real nice setup with Brown/Gaffney/Pinkston.

If they want him (big if there) I could see them giving him a big number this year to pacify the ego (since they have plenty of room to spare), while setting up for a very small cap number next year. I couldn't see any more than a two year deal, maybe a three with a phantom third year.

And giving up a 4th would be a no-brainer. They have enough projects on the roster and are running out of roster spots. I like the idea of using one 4th to get Moulds, then using other two to move up into the third, since they got another 5th and a 6th today those will be the filler picks.

Actually, a local news reporter (and one who's actually been right quite often before everyone else) said that it was basically a done deal with Moulds to the Texans. Another one said that it might take another couple of days while they hammered out a new contract. I'm not sure if it's true or not, but I guess it goes to show that everyone has different takes on the situation.

Edit: And now the local newspaper says that there hasn't been any change. Of course, the newspaper hack sucks anyway. He spends more time on the Cowboys than the Texans.

The Moulds to Eagles thing is hardly concrete. It was mostly stirred up this time by a report that McNabb and Moulds were talking and then Moulds' agent was on local sports radio. If anything, I think this works against a moulds/Eagles marriage as that is not the way the Eagles FO likes to operate.

Moulds to Eagles could work. I'm far more concerned about the stupid Burleson/'Hawks deal, and I LIKE Burleson. I have a friend who raced against that bastard.

I suppose it's injury insurance. That's a LOT to spend on injury insurance.

No, everything'll be alright because they'll have REGGIE BUSH. [/Texans front office]

(I really hope for the Texans' sake they don't take Bush, ya know? That's honestly going to be one of the dumbest picks ever made if it does occur.)

Isiah Thomas must be running that team as well.

It would be a stupid pick, and moreover I'd be really sad to see Bush without a line. If they pick Bush, it's for short term financial gain. I can understrand that. People will pay to see him play. For a season.

Am I the only one who really likes David Carr? Probably. I just want to see what he could do if he wasn't setting record sacks.

Texans aren't giving up on Carr any time soon with the money they just committed to him this offseason. And certainly not as long as Casserly is still working for them--Carr is his guy. That's why they're not drafting Vince, much to everybody's chagrin here.

The Texans line should be better this year. That isn't saying much, of course, but signing Flanagan allows them to move McKinney to his natural guard spot and get rid of Milford Brown's useless ass.

Bush will help the Texans regardless of whatever else happens simply because he's a playmaker and that is something that haven't had too much of in their existence. Some of the 20-yard runs Domanick Davis gets caught from behind on will turn into touchdowns with Bush.

Careful throwing around the term "everyone" Jack. I'm perfectly happy taking Bush, Ferguson, Mario, or Hawk before Young. I don't see him being "a bigger Vick" or whatever other comparison someone wants to throw on him. Talented? Definitely. Ready to contribute in a meaningful way? Nope, he'll probably need at least 2 season to pick up the nuances of being an NFL quarterback.

David Carr is the ultimate underdog, really. Gets hit over and over and over, and he just gets back up. And he often throws an awesome pass to Andre Johnson, who is invariably double-covered. I'd like to see the Texans do well.

Carr has proven to be a franchise QB.

If Vince Young falls to the Cardinals, I really think Dennis Green and Kurt Warner could help him out alot translate into the NFL. Dennis helped out Culpepper translate into the NFL, and Young is a similar player.

I think that this is actually a likely scenario. Many of the teams that have picks ahead of the Cardinals already have young QB's. I see the Jets taking Leinert and the Titans taking Jay Cutler. After that, most teams have just signed free agent QB's or have 2 or third year starters.

The only other way I see this not happening is the Titans take Vince Young so that he learns how to QB with a QB who was similar to him in college like McNair was.

Apparently a Philly station (610 AM up there I think it was) is reporting that the Texans and Moulds have agreed to a contract, and all that needs to be worked out is what Buffalo gets out of it.

I'm not sure how much is, "NFL sources say" and how much is "Yo, my sistah's friend's parole officer heard" so call it uncomfirmed for now.

Yeah but thats with an O line. If they get Bush, then they won't be making a great move toward getting an O line and as I recall, they don't have any type of good O-line right now. I could be wrong, but it just seems this way to me.

Too bad Moulds went to the Texans.

His best chance at getting a ring was with the Eagles, and he's too old to be on a rebuilding team like the Texans

Just send an opposing WR in that direction and you'll be safe.

Interesting pick up for the Pats, in all seriousness. Don't know if it helps them much, but it sure is a step up from KC.

I guess Miami is the destination for NFC North QB's looking to re-vitalize their careers. How long til Favre signs there?
