Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2006 Somebody must have neglected to tell the Patriots that Christmas was last month because that was a mighty big gift that they gave the Broncos. However, this means that Green Bay is STILL the only team in history to win three straight World Championships!
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2006 Allow me to repost my initial thoughts on page 1: "Denver (+137) vs. New England (+41). I am flat out bewildered that everyone on here is just assuming the Pats go into Denver and take out a BETTER TEAM than them (this year anyway), who has a 3 game better record, almost 100 points better in differential, and undefeated at home this year to boot. The Pats this year reek of the 1996 Dallas Cowboys (right down to the 3 titles in 4 years), and they lost in this exact round at Carolina (26-17). I'd expect something similar like Denver 27-17." I don't mean to tell you so, but I fucking told you so. Too many people were buying into the idiotic Patriots 3 peat crap and failed to look at obvious stats. As in going against a team undefeated at home that has nearly a +100 better point differential. And a better record. And who has had their number even during the Belichick regime. Good for the Broncos, now go and job out to Indy next week like good little boys. (The Pats by the way ended up almost exactly like the 96 Cowboys.) "Seattle (+181) vs. Washington (+66). Some people are picking the Skins to win here, and I guess it makes sense since they beat the Seahawks by 3 earlier in the season. But let's get real. The Redskins aren't all that good and it's time they say bye bye. Seattle by 7." Called this one fairly well, though I guess if I'd bet I'd have lost since the Skins didn't cover the 9 1/2. I have no idea why anyone thought a thoroughly mediocre team like Washington was getting to the conf. title game. Is it just me or have these been the absolute worst playoffs ever? Only 1 game has been decided by less than 10 points and that was one of the shittiest games I've ever seen (Washington/TB). Not expecting anything riveting tomorrow either. snuffbox 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2006 Dont worry...the networks will find plenty to jabber on about for two weeks no matter whos in the SuperBowl. Chris Berman: "Yeah Dan I think that Im a total fat bitch...blah blah blah...Shaun Alexander..." 2 hours later, whatever trained chimp is on the air at the moment: "I disagree Chris mkay...blah blah blah Im a talking dick...Jake Plummer..." cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2006 I am assuming this refers to the Packers winning the two Super Bowls and previously the NFL title? Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2006 Also, it just isn't the AFC Playoffs without Denver getting raped by the Colts. How many points will they lose by this year? 40?

cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2006 Jesus, what is it with all the Colts hate on this board? The Colts haven't hogged the playoff spotlight like SOME teams, they usually don't goon star players like others I could mention, and they usually play an exciting brand of football. By the way, if Denver played Seattle or whoever in the Super Bowl, that would be one of the most heatless Super Bowls ever. Not that those are bad teams really, but seriously, who gives a fuck? To be fair, I don't think anyone could have predicted that the Pats would lose four fumbles or that the referee would make a horrible pass interference call to give Denver a touchdown. New England actually moved the ball a lot better than Denver over the course of the game, and I think that if they played ten games against Denver with the team they have now, they'd win seven. It's just that on this day, every break went Denver's way and they managed to come up with a 14 point victory.
naiwf 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2006 Maybe I'm just not a Broncos lover, but is it wrong to say that they didn't dominate that game at all and should be happy they got any points at all? Granted they forced 5 turnovers, but a couple shouldn't/wouldn't have happened based on a bad call/the direct result of that play. I know it's cool to hate the "hot" team, but some people on other sites are acting like the Broncos put a Panthers/Giants beating down on the Pats today, when I saw more of a USC handing the reins over to Texas type game, save the heroic VY effort. Well, first off 1/4 of this board are proclaimed Patriots fans (although that'll drop as we know how fickle "fans" are once their "team" is no longer the top dog) and because the networks love to get on their knees for Indy. NE earned that by winning 3 titles, Indy goes 13-3(or 14-2?) and scores a bunch of points...that's not worthy of praise. Earn it first Indy, so far all they have done is blow it in the playoffs. Along with the fact, most people want mindless hype or good hype for the SB...and not cheesy sympathic hype for Dungy's son.
naiwf 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2006 I don't like the Colts because Peyton gets treated like he's the guy with 3 Super Bowl rings. Yes, he's an excellent stat sheet stuffer but all I have to do is look at his most important stat, 0 championships won, and I grow weary of his endless praise. It's the same reason I've grown to HATE the Cavs/LeBron.
Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2006 Chicago over Carolina (but I hope I'm wrong) Denver over New England Pittsburgh over Indianapolis Seattle over Washington (again, I hope I'm wrong) 2 for 2 so far! Go Panthers.
Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2006 Am I the only one who thinks that the 68 Colts (the best team of the Super Bowl era never to win it) were better than this year's version? They crushed everybody, set the record for least points allowed in a season, had a four game stretch in which they didn't allow a TD, had four shutouts, had the NFL MVP as their QB, were second in the league in most points scored, ravaged the Browns 34-0 in the NFL Championship (avenging their only loss in the regular season to the same Browns), then beat themselves in the Super Bowl (they drove the ball inside the 20 three times in the first half and came away with one missed FG and two poorly thrown INTs in the end zone). snuffbox 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2006 Thats a pretty intriguing question. I think present-Colts would have too many weapons for the '68 team. I wonder how history wouldve gone if the Jets had made it to the SB the year before and Namath made his prediction then...
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2006 Sadly, I think if the Colts get past the Steelers it's going to be a very ugly AFC title game. The Colts can slam the run and I'm sorry, Plummer didn't prove he could handle it and take the Broncos on his back. I think the Denver defense will work their asses off again but I don't see their special teams coming up with two turnovers. Steelers are the only chance of the AFC title looking even remotely close. Denver against Indy would be ugly, worst than last year ugly. Denver really isn't that different a team, in fact I don't see how they are any fucking different from the last two years. Oh and I'm calling it right now. Next season, New England against Denver for the AFC title. Both teams will be back with fully loaded teams and it'll be an awesome defense vs defense struggle. Hats off to both defenses cause they came to play in a big way. Big ups to the Broncos D for the two forced turnovers and they deserved to win it. Their offense didn't but I can say that about quite a few NE wins over the past. Congrats Broncos, now pray for a Steeler win.

alfdogg 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2006 Can you guys please spare us of all the "heatless" Super Bowl horseshit? This isn't the WWE, and we're not booking the teams that play for the championship. If Denver and Seattle get there, that means they were the best teams and they deserve to be there. I had to hear this shit leading up to the NBA Finals as well as the MLB playoffs, and it's incredibly tiresome. I somehow doubt any of you complainers will be getting kickbacks from CBS. Prime Time Andrew Doyle 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2006 The Broncos have no chance next week if they play like they did today. They got every break possible. How many times do you see Adam Vinateri miss a field goal? How many times do you see the kicker cause a fumble? They better hope that both teams get into a dog fight tomorrow and limp into the game next week, otherwise the Broncos have no chance.
Guest Smues Report post Posted January 15, 2006 Fucking FINALLY the Patriots lose in the post season. Thank you god. I was at a hockey game and they put up on the scoreboard "New England 24 Denver 13" so I got pissed and thought oh fuck here comes another superbowl run. Then the announcer says it's Denver 27 New England 13. So I was confused and waited til I could get home to verify it. Huzzah Denver winning. Now if Chicago would be nice and lose I could root for anyone else remaining to win it all.

Slayer 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2006 Why is Ryan Reynolds QBing for the Steelers? To answer the earlier question of why I don't like the Colts, or moreso Peyton... up until a couple years ago it was because Peyton would continually fuck up in big games, but still get a lot of media attention over more deserving players because he has this "aw shucks" country boy aura that they seem to love, hence my nickname for him. Well, he has proven he can win big games (so long as said games are against the AFC West)... but he still rubs me the wrong way. I haven't really seen any Eli interview bits... does he give off the same country boy vibe as his brother?

All the talk about "heatless" matches doesn't even matter when talking about the NFL. The Super Bowl is still going to be the highest rated event on American television for the year. It can be a matchup of two 8-8 wildcard teams from small markets with no history between the two and it will still get the highest ratings.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted January 15, 2006 Yes yes yes fucking yes I hate the goddamn patriots and am just DELIGHTED they lost.
