Is Carlito a better wrestler then we think?

Recommended Posts

I was re-watching the elimnation chamber match from New Years Revelution last night, and I must say I was impressed with Carlito in ring performance. He was very entertaining and even pulled out moves we never seen him do before(Somersault Plancha). Is Carlito a good wrestler who is just lazy? I mean for over year a now he has never had any notable matches, but on that night he put on his working boots. If he put on more performances like he did that night, he might could prove to the smarks that he can be a WWE main eventer.

I have always thought he was better than what he shows/is allowed to show.

I'll believe hes a good worker when hes more consistent than being good in one heavily-gimmicked six person match per year.

I think the Raw match the next night may have been his worst match ever.

I dunno. When Carlito first debuted on Smackdown he was way better in the ring than he is now. Seems as if he got worse little by little as time went on. By the time he came to Raw he seemed slow & lazy in the ring & his offense consisted of mainly low blows & chokes. I always thought that maybe WWE is telling him to cut back on the fancy moves & do more of the heel stuff since that is his character - a cheap heel. Hell, I remember him doing a slingshot elbow drop on John Cena in his debut match!

It really makes you wonder though, how some guys on the roster would look out there if you were to take WWE's constrictive wrestling style off them.

Wait a minute so you're telling me that the wrestlers can do more than punch, kick, 3 trademark spots?

Well, you can say that about almost every guy on the roster.

I think Carlito is ok, but he looked really bad on Raw this week.

I think that carlito is a fairly decent wrestler, but whether he is capable of being a top card wrestler suchas HHH or kurt angle is another question.

Hell no, he's the same boring useless performer he was when he started out. His performance in the EC chamber was nothing more then average-as was Masters-and did nothing to make the match any better, the only good part anyway was Edge winning the belt at the end.

Carlito and Masters slow transition into the main event has been nothing short of retarded. They're in-ring work suck beyond comprehension and they're persona's are just cringingly stupid.

You guys don't get it. Carlito isn't booked or supposed to be like Kurt Angle. He's not going to be out there wrestling 20-30 minute technical classics. He is a cowardly, chickenshit heel, who will use every dirty trick and cheating tactic to win. He's not supposed to be a dangerous fighter or a mat technician. He's Roddy Piper 2006 (hate to draw the obvious comparison, but it's true).

That said, I do think he's better than what we've seen, given that a lot of people have said in interviews (Konnan, Jim Cornette, etc) that he can do a lot more than what he's shown in WWE thus far.

Will people please give up the lame excuse of "He's not Angle, Benoit, HBK but he's blah blah blah bLah blah". It's redundant and brings no point in regards of Carlito's credibility.

Carlito is simply shit at what he does. Just like Orton, Batista, Masters, Henry and all these other useless flukes that are getting pushed.

Yeah, Carlito's character is't meant to be a wrestler.

However, he is pretty crap at what he does have to do.

I remember a GREAT match against Rey Mysterio in 2004 right before Carlito's injury. Granted, rey carried most of it, but carlito looked pretty impressive as well.

As a matter of fact, Carlito was busting some awesome aerial moves when he was wrestling for his pop's promotion at the Carribeans. The WWE is watering him down because they don't want the crowd to turn him face.

Yeah, exactly. People on this board act like Carlito is booking himself to be a cowardly heel. I'm sure he could wrestle fine if he was told to. No, he's not a Chris Benoit or HBK, but not every wresterl has to be. There's room for different styles and levels of talent. Duh.

But remember, you can't be an ELITE INTERWEB SMARK if you don't shit on any wrestler who is not HBK/Angle/Benoit :)

I for one have always heard great stuff about Carlito`s matches down in Puerto Rico. I remember hearing Carlito having MOTYC level matches in 2004 and 2005 in his father`s promotion (WWC). At least, that`s what I`ve been hearing. I haven`t seen any of that though :(

Along the same line, if the wrestler in question is someone WWE is actively pushing, than you must hate him. It's only cool to like "under appreciated" wrestlers, so you can complain about what an idiot Vince McMahon is for not using that wrestler properly, and pine for them to go to TNA so they can wrestle AJ Styles and Samoa Joe~~~!!!

Yeah, like anyone would ever do that on THIS board.

That would be a much better option for Carlito at this point.

People dont diss these bums because it's 'the cool thing to do'. What a rediculous assesment. People diss them because they're unimpressive and worthless, dont we deserve better?

Wait, let me get this straight...you were just saying how unimpressive and "shit at what he does" Carlito is, but at the same time you would want him to go to TNA and wrestle what is a much faster, more physical style? You're contradicting yourself. You don't get to have it both ways.

I'm not as critical about wrestlers' workrate as others are, but even I will say that Carlito is absolutely terrible in the ring. I have nothing against him personally, but nothing will put me to sleep faster than a Carlito match. At least with the hosses, as awful as they are, you can at least play up the David vs Goliath dynamic and there's a story there. But with Carlito, you can't even do that. And it's not like I've had some bias against him since day one, I've thought he was ok. But it hit me a few months ago in a Raw match against Michaels that this was by far the worst match I had seen that year, and this involved HBK, a guy who can turn out tolerable matches with people ranging from Masters to Henry to Hassan. Ever since then, I've noticed how much Carlito's in ring has sucked, and I'm thinking it's because of how weak his offense looks.

Why the fuck not? Since many claim he somehow is quite a performer I say let him go to TNA so his real talents (if he really has any) can be better exposed.

To be fair, if you're talking about the match that I think you're talking about, Michaels was sandbagging the shit out of Carlito for the entire thing.

Well shit son, that's pretty much how it looks like from here.
