I really REALLY hope Tina wins. WTA needs her so desperately badly right now. She'd get squashed by a hot Mahree Pierce in the 3rd round... but, Martina needs some wins so she stays confident, and wants to keep playing.

Especially after already losing to Henin this year.

At least Hewitt got through, but he needs the mullet back.

Even though I'm not watching this much since I insist on watching live sports, I wanted to say it's bullshit that it's on ESPN2 when it's live and not ESPN proper. It's a major, ferchrissakes. You've shown that "Matchup of the Millenium" NFL Films splicejob enough.

Martina Hingis is looking DAMN good...and her tennis seems pretty decent as well. :D

She really does. That's probably the fittest Martina has ever been. And she played REALLY well. Far beyond my expectations. She still likely goes down to Pierce in the 3rd round... unfortunate draw, because I'd give Martina a good chance against anyone else in the bottom half... but, methinks Martina will be here to stay for a while. :)

It's to avoid confusion, and the senselessness of changing channels during coverage. I didn't like when they had the finals on ESPN, because they'd never show a thing after the match to show the 12th repeat of Sportscenter.

Other events like college basketball, golf, maybe even Sportscenter have more viewers. So, they should get the main slot.

Damir Dokic brings the crazy tennis father stereotype once again.

http://www.stuff.co.nz/stuff/0,2106,3545335a1823,00.html

"I have thought about dropping a nuclear bomb on Sydney since Jelena lost in the first round this week, for which Australia is to blame," Damir told Serbian daily newspaper Kurir.

"I have even thought about killing an Australian in revenge, but I wouldn't gain anything from it."

http://www.thecouriermail.news.com.au/comm...5E23216,00.html

"Australia, with the help of Croatia and the Vatican, have brainwashed my daughter," Damir told Serbian daily Kurir.

Is Jelena officially Australian again? It's impossible to keep up with her. She's Jelena DOKIC (AUS) (SCG) (SMO) (AUS) now.

That means nothing. Damir has always said stupid shit, and Lord knows what that crazy fucker has done to her over the years... and she always goes back. She's said before it's because her little brother is still with him. Her dad probably means well, but all those Yugoslav people are legit insane.

So much for Mary Pierce. I just hope Hingis doesn't lose to someone she should beat in this upcoming match since the draw really opened up for her to make it to the Quarters right now as there are no seeds until then, and Clijsters is hurting too should she get that far. Great match by Benesova though.

Shocking loss.

The bad thing is that I'll probably have to stay up until 4am another few nights now. Ugh.

Damned Aussies. Give her a day match next time, please.

I have an uncle who used to watch tennis a lot. He lived with my grandma, his mom, for about 20 years after his divorce. In 2001 he got arrested for a bunch of drug related stuff. After getting out of jail he went to live back with his mom. But, he doesn't watch tennis much anymore.

I'm beginning to hate the fact I don't think I'll ever get to see Hingis live unless she plays a match that fits in the TV window. Last time she played the match was delayed and I went to sleep. I knew her match tonight wouldn't start before 1:30 AM EST/5:30 PM Aussie time, but it's closing in on 3:30 AM now and Ferrero looks like he's dragging this guy to a 5th set which means she won't step on the court for at least another hour and I'm not staying up until 5:30 or 6 to watch the whole match. Ugh.

Yep, Damir will be getting a good pasting tomorrow night on my sports show. He makes my job so much easier.

Pierce is out. I was never a huge fan of hers anyway. But its awesome to see Martina back competing, an while I doubt she'll get to her old levels, who knows.

Australia is going insane for the two unknown guys that are through to the Third Round, plus Sam Stosur is through to the Third on the Women's side. The TV Networks are begging for her to be this years' Alicia Molik.

I've never seen Healey play. Which is actually saying a lot. He's a complete fluke to make the 3rd round though... beat Volandri who retired, and Delic, who I have no idea made the 2nd round. Plus, I love Davydenko.

Luczak is going to get whooped hard by Haas. Tommy's on fire lately.

Serena Williams got booted out. I thought Hantuchova would probably take it to 3 sets but lack the killer instinct to beat her. Maybe less of a shock than Pierce losing considering how little Serena plays these days.

Pierce was playing 100x better than Serena. Serena should have lost 1st round to Na.

Oh, and Serena will be ranked around #40 now. Hehehe.

Hantuchova was really pretty at one point, but then got too skinny even for me

How huge of a story would it be if Hingis wins the Australian Open?

She's always been my favorite women's tennis player, for years I liked her style of play (relying on solid groundstrokes instead of the big serve)...and there's the fact she's extraordinarily attractive.

I'm glad to see she's back and doing well...but I honestly didn't expect her to do this well this soon.

:D

I wonder if she'll play more than 2 or 3 tournaments between now and the French Open. I really though Davenport might tank it last night as well, but Kirilenko messed up her foot, fell behind 2-0 in the 3rd and that was that. I'm much more excited about the women's draw now, especially if Clijsters manages to somehow feel better, and I'm just hoping we get Federer whipping Roddick 3, 3 and 3 in the final.

Last year Serena played 4.

I doubt that happens again, since she usually has the "flu" (i.e. Bahamitis) excuse for the Middle East tournies. And she never plays Indian Wells.

She'll probably only play Paris Indoor, Miami and Rome.

There's a very good chance she won't be seeded for Roland Garros.

And bitch Clijsters isn't injured. She pulls that garbage all the time.

I would love to see her unseeded and end up drawing Venus in the 1st Round just to get rid of one of them right off the bat. It'll never happen, but I can dream.

Wait until July when Venus' Wimbledon points come off... she may be in the same boat. :) They did play in the 2nd round of Aussie Open in '98 when both were unseeded.

I do joke about them losing, but it's really quite sad. With the lack of talent and confidence in the top players in the last few years... Serena should have at least 8-10 slams in her pocket by now. A focused Serena would be wiping the floor with everyone. We should be talking about her in the same breath as greats like Steffi and Martina.

Leena, have you seen Sam Stosur play? I've only seen her stuff in the Hopman a couple of times, and she seems to have had an easy road through to the third round so far. If he can get past Bammer today, she'll possibly go on to face Hingis, which will be the end of her campaign, but I'm interested in what you think about Stosur.

Martina plays in one hour. I can't wait to see her tight little ass. And her evil smile at the opponent she'll destroy. Oh, and Benesova is pretty cute, too. She's like a non-anorexic Hantuchova.
