snuffbox 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2006 Heres the card for the Erik Morales-Manny Pacquiao rematch this Saturday. The first fight was a classic and would have been FOTY had it not been for Coralles-Castillo. The undercard isnt nearly as strong for this one unfortunately, but the main event is pretty much another guranteed FOTY candidate. Any predictions? Im taking Morales with another decision in the main...Castillo, Zertuche, and (obviously) the rising Lopez win underneath. 12 Rounds - Super Featherweight Championship: Erik Morales 48-3, 34 KOs vs. Manny Pacquiao40-3-2 , 31 KOs 12 Rounds - WBA Super Flyweight Championship: Martin Castillo 29-1, 16 KOs vs. Alexander Munoz 28-1, 26 KOs 10 Rounds - Middleweights: Marcos Primera 19-12-2, 12 KOs vs. Jose Luis Zertuche 17-2-2, 13 KOs Plus Special Attraction: Juan Manuel Lopez 8-0, 8 KOs vs. TBA
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2006 Morales is gonna win like he did last time, unless Manny can catch Morales with a shot from god, because Morales has never been KO'd in his career or unless Morales still hasen't recovered mentally from the boxing lession he recieved from Zahir Raheem. Manny is just too 1 demensional, and relys on his power and brawling skills too much. Last fight Morales won fairly easy although it was a good fight. snuffbox 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2006 Late last night the betting odds shifted back to Manny Pacquiao, who is now a -120 favorite. -fightnews.com

snuffbox 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2006 Oh yeah...its definitly going to be a war. Pac Man is wearing Reyes (puncher's) gloves to try again to knockout one of the toughest men to ever step in a ring. Morales is wearing Winners gloves for added defense against the inasanely brutal Pacquiao. I cant afford the 44.95 ppv price...but I cant wait for next Saturday when HBO replays it, with the live Arturo Gatti fight.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2006 Zahir Raheem will be in studio tonight for the first Friday Nights Fights show of the new year. He will be previewing the ppv fight tomorrow night. Theres an ibf title fight, Teddy Reid-JC Candelo, and Lames McGirt Jr on tonight...pretty good free card. 8pm ET on espn2.

Thanks for letting me know. I've needed a sports fix. This seems as good a place as any to comment. Late PWI publisher Stanley Weston is being inducted into boxing's Hall of Fame this year. snuffbox 0 Report post Posted January 21, 2006 Couple good fights tonight...that first one was a pretty retarded decision though.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted January 22, 2006 HBO replayed Pac/Morales today. What a lovely fight that was. I happened to have the exact same final score as the judges, which doesn't happen often for me. That last round where Morales switched to southpaw and went toe-to-toe with Pacquiao was just suicidal, and awesome as fuck. The same program also showed Manny's assassination of Barrera. Amazing performance.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2006 Zertuche, Lopez, and Castillo won underneath... Pacquiao stopped Morales in the tenth round. It wasnt a big punch that did it...cumulation of blows, broken nose, and exhaustion finished off the great Morales. Sounds like a great fight and amazing performance by the PacMan...cant wait for the replay in a week.
razazteca 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2006 What was the deal with Jim Lampley talking about gloves being the issue from the 1st fight? I'm going to jump on the bandwagon.
Ced 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2006 IIRC, the gloves issue was that Pacquiao had to use Morales's preferred type of glove in the first Pacquaio-Morales fight due to the contract stipulations, which Pacquiao claimed hindered his performance. Pacquaio prefers a punchers glove and he got to wear them tonight while Morales got to wear his preference of gloves. Looks like they do make a difference after all. The Pinoy in me celebrates the win. PAC-MAN! DESTROYER! RULE!
razazteca 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2006 So the next fight for Paquiao is against Barrera since Morales wants to take a "vacation"?
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2006 DLH did offer Pacquiao the March date against Barrera...but that may be too soon after another war. There was a rematch clause in last night's fight contract. Morales deserves a long rest, if he decides to come back at all. The man is a true sports legend...and Pac Man is nearing that level himself(he is the Aaron Pryor of this generation).
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted January 22, 2006 AWESOME. I have to watch this. There's no way Morales would quit or be stopped unless he was beaten within an inch of his life. I thought he was nuts taking the first fight with Pac after only a four month layoff after his last fight with Barrera.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2006 Morales back home! Three-time world champion Erik "El Terrible" Morales of Tijuana, Mexico is back home in San Diego after his rousing battle on Saturday night with two-time world champion Manny Pacquiao at the Thomas & Mack Center of Las Vegas. "Last Saturday night I run into a guy with a lot of ambition who wanted to win very much. Was in great condition and was obviously well prepared to fight me," said Morales. "It was a very tough intense fight. I think I had some good moments early, but was getting very tired as the fight was going in the later rounds. I have nothing but respect for Pacquiao, he's a good person and he beat me, you won't hear any excuses from me," said Morales. "After the fight I was taken to the hospital to make sure that I was alright and everything came out fine. Now I'm looking forward to getting some rest and spending some time with my wife (Andrea) who is due on February with our first child (a boy)," said Morales. "Bob Arum and Top Rank have given me their unconditional support as they always have. Now I will take some time off and think about what my next move will be," concluded Morales. -Fightnews Morales...not only a legend but classy in defeat as well. I would guess that he will come back for another fight or two in a year or so...he still has some good stuff left, he just needs a really deserved rest. snuffbox 0 Report post Posted January 28, 2006 Reminder - the replay is on HBO tonight at 8:45 (central time). After that will be Arturo Gatti vs Thomas Damgaard (37-0 vs nobody anyone knows) live from Gatti's home turf of Atlantic City.
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted January 28, 2006 I will be watching.....
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2006 Yeah, that was an awesome fight. Pacquaio never stops...hes like Aaron Pryor. Morales was whening the first six rounds though and definitly needs at least a year off. Pacquiao will beat whoever fights next. And, bring on Gatti-Baldomir. Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted January 29, 2006 Pacquiao is so fun to watch. The guy is absolutely relentless. I had Morales winning handily until the sixth, when Pac just lit him up. I don't think Gatti's going to go too terribly far anymore. He rips his hand up in every single fight. Plus a guy the caliber of Mayweather or slightly less would perform surgery on Gatti's face ten times out of ten.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2006 I hope nobody wants to see PBF-Gatti 2. But a possible win over true welterweight chamiopn Baldomir would be a great final fight for one of the most exciting fighters of recent times.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted January 29, 2006 Exciting sure, but Gatti's nowhere in the league of the REALLY top tier guys, as shown by his embarassment against Floyd.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2006 No PBF, Hatton, or probably even Judah...well, maybe Judah... But if Gatti can beat anyone at this stage in his career its Baldomir, and hes champ.
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2006 Watching Gatti, he basically fights the same no matter who is opponent is. I mean he may try to fake it and act like a boxer for a round or two, but he just isn't. Hell he got hit so many times against this Danish guy that if the dude had any power, he probably would have dropped Gatti a few times. Oh and Pacqiuo/Morales was the shizzz.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted January 30, 2006 Maybe not drop him, but cut him up anyway. Christ, Damgaard couldn't even hit hard enough to split Gatti. Guy has skin like a wet tissue.
Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2006 But a possible win over true welterweight chamiopn Baldomir would be a great final fight for one of the most exciting fighters of recent times. I'm not sure Gatti deserves a title shot so soon simply for being a "name."
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted January 31, 2006 But a possible win over true welterweight chamiopn Baldomir would be a great final fight for one of the most exciting fighters of recent times. I'm not sure Gatti deserves a title shot so soon simply for being a "name." The thing is though, people are willing to pay for him to get the title shot because they know what kind of a fight Gatti will make it. That is what is lacking these days. Prize Fighters who lay it all on the line.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted January 31, 2006 Gatti drew almost 12,000 people to the Boardwalk for a fight with a largely unknown Danish fighter. The undercard was pretty weak beyond hardcore boxing circles. That is why Gatti-Baldomir will probably happen.
Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted January 31, 2006 I never doubted that Gatti could draw a gate and TV crowd, especially with HBO constantly stumbling over themselves to verbally fellate him, but I suppose I just find it dissapointing that a B level fighter could win what some would consider a lackluster fight against an opponent brought in to make him look good, and then instantly get a title shot against a hard working fighter who's toiled and gone undefeated in the division since '98. snuffbox 0 Report post Posted January 31, 2006 I really doubt Carlos Baldomir has any problem with making alot more money vs. Gatti than with any other welterweight contender...especially with Zab/PBF ties up together. Its the only fight currently available to him that might net him a million dollar check.
