Here's a link to this year's awards, "Brokeback Mountain" leads with 8, and I guess George Clooney is the new Warren Beatty (3 noms for acting, directing, writing)

Oscar Nominees

Scarlett Johansson not getting a nomination is just bullshit

Good to see Munich pick up some nods. I'd complain about Eric Bana and Jeff Daniels getting snubbed, but Best Actor is so deep anyway.

Gwyneth Paltrow really deserved recognition for Proof as well.

Looking at the list some quick notes-

Good seeing William Hurt on there (shame about Donald Sutherland getting lost in the shuffle, "Pride & Prejudice" is good)

Best Song, "It's Hard Out Here For a Pimp"- from "Hustle & Flow", THIS SONG MUST WIN

Shocked that Episode III is the only "Star Wars" film not to get a Visual Effects Nom, I mean it'd probably lose to "King Kong" anyway but still...

But William Hurt doesn't deserve it! He's in the movie for like 8 seconds. And Ed Harris gave a much better performance.

They should've given Crowe, Bana or Daniels a Best Actor nod and gave Howard a nod for Crash

FUCK A BUNCHA FLOOD CONTROL!

Howard was great in Crash, but could anyone from that movie really get a nod for a lead role?

But Hurt was as equally memorable as Harris (2 words..."Jesus, Joey") and he was on screen for less time, Oscars always love the "great performance that's only on screen for a few minutes"- Judi Dench won the Oscar for "Shakespeare in Love" and was onscreen for like 10 minutes in that film.

I am happy Terence Howard got the nod, but I am routing for Phillip Seymour Hoffman because the guy has been incredibly good in everything he has played in. Which of course mean that Phoenix will probably win it.

Matt Dillon, I want to win, Paul Giamatti I want to win. Though I liked Dillon performance this year better, Paul needs to be recognized.

I agree with Bob on this one. I too thought Harris was easily more notable than Hurt in that movie. In fact when it came out I recall some thinking Hurt had chewed the scenery and overacted.

My picks are Brokeback for best picture, Hoffman for Capote (they gotta give it to someone playing a homo, but Ledger is too obvious), Witherspoon for actress, Weisz for supporting, Giamatti for supporting, and I guess Clooney for director since he's likely to go home with SOMETHING.

Wow, Match Point got fucked up. Damn shame.

You know what? This hasn't been a great year for movies.

Sith and Sin City should have gotten visual effect noms.

And I'm sure that Miyazaki is going to lose to Wallace and Gromit, and that's just going to piss me off.

I can't believe The Meaning of Life didn't get Best Animated Short...

besides that, the main categories don't look bad. I'll be happy as long as Brokeback Mountain doesn't win everything (I'm hoping for Good Night, and Good Luck)

I think it's better year then people think. Too many times we kept hearing about how the sky was falling and movies were doomed, but there were a lot of good little movies out there that may not have made 100 mil, but were good movies.

Squid and the Whale comes to mind. I was hoping Jeff Daniels or Laura Linney would get a nomination, but I'm happy it got something. Just a terrific movie that I can't praise enough.

I'm also happy that despite coming out in May, Crash was able to rack up some nominations. That movie was unforgettable, the scene with Ludacris and Terence Howard at the end, had the audience where I saw it applauding.

Instead of Capote, which I didn't think was that great, I would've given Match Point Director and Picture as well, along with Scarlett.

I didn't see the Miyazaki movie, but Wallace and Gromit was a fun movie.

I'm kinda pissed that Miramax just dumped all these movies last fall. Robert Redford and Gwyneth Paltrow both deserved some recognition for An Unfinished Life and Proof, respectively, but because their movies were just tossed out there, they got nothing.

Match Point got ONE nod? Christ man, that is fucking stupid. It deserved more than just that.

And Giamatti got the pity nod I see, he was good in "Cinderella Man" but no way did that performance make me think he deserved an Oscar Nomination.

So, who's gonna sing "It's Hard out Here For a Pimp" live at the show?

Sin City was the only movie from 2005 that I ever plan on watching again, if that says something about the year.

The only nominated-in-a-major-category film I saw last year was Crash, which was good, but nothing I was blown away by. I thought the whole idea of the movie was pretty farfetched and was uninterested in some of the stories.

I would choose Crash over last year's Best Picture (supposedly), Million Dollar Baby, in a heartbeat, however.

yeah, the movies are clearly the problem in your case

Early rumours are pointing to Snoop Dogg as the performer of "It's Hard Out Here For A Pimp" but I say fuck that, let Terrence Howard bust out and do it.

And there's no way that Pheonix is taking this Oscar- they just gave out one for a guy playing a dead musician last year.

Interesting that CGI animated films got shut out, No "Robots" "Madagascar" or "Chicken Little", granted none of them were great (Though I did like Robots)

Not sure why Walk The Line had to get snubbed in terms of Best Picture, I'd probably put it in place of Munich or Brokeback Mountain, the latter of which was slightly overrated. I don't think Phoenix should get snubbed for the Oscar just because they gave one to an actor portraying a dead musician last year, because Phoenix did a hell of a job.
