Hoff 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2006 So I fell asleep in front of the TV, and I wake up to see Smilin' Palmer Cannon with his midgets. I watch the following segment in half a daze. My God, if they just gave me two hours of that, I'd be a happy, happy man. That was beyond entertaining. So I get to thinking. The Boogeyman, who doesn't really do anything, but is weird and colorful, gets love from the 'net. Paul Birchill, who doesn't really do anything, but is weird and colorful, gets chastised. Yet Finlay, who is vanilla as vanilla can be, is like the smark sensation. What gives? I've tried to wrap my head around it, tried to draw some connection between these men, and the only thing that I can figure is that the rest of the internet likes what I hate and vice versa. Also, when the hell did we turn against Matt Hardy? I must have missed that memo. I patiently await the mounds of praise for the awful Taker-Henry match. And does it bother anyone else that when Taker crouches into his shoot-fight stance and starts throwing body blows, that's "vintage Undertaker?" Damn you, Cole, 2002 is not vintage. naiwf 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2006 Why would a face GM book such a match? I was about to ask that myself. I also want to know why they more than likely plan to bury Mark and MNM and then build to a Taker/Henry match at 'Mania, but then I remember the WWE could not give two shits about logical booking or Rey wouldn't be willing to sacrifice a WM Main Event in a match that doesn't benefit him in any way. Just John 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2006 Again, outside of the exploitation of Eddie Guerrero, SD was a solid show this week. Booker T is great as an announcer. If he doesn't get a main show position when he retires from in-ring action, there is no justice. MNM vs. London/Kendrick was pretty good, but too short. I'm hoping they get a rematch at NWO that can get 15 minutes. That would be a quality match for sure. I like the fact that Helms is getting the CW division on the A show. Burchill the pirate... Met with silence this week. Don't see that changing. Finlay is SD's MVP this week. Someone had to kill the jrs. Hopefully this is a recurring theme. Am I crazy or was the Henry/UT match not that bad? It did start to drag at the end, but whatever. All that match had to do was get into positive stars to exceed my expectations.

RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2006 Taker/Henry started GREAT. Taker bumped for Henrys typically shite offense so well that it looked good. It started to die after the first few minutes, though, because there wasn't really anything to sustain it beyond "Henry beats up Taker, Taker beats up Henry" plus when it's Taker doing the majority of the running around, the match pace tends to slow. Overall, though, if they gave it more of a story and let it go 13 minutes, I'd say that Henry/Taker could be Takers best Mania match... yes, even better than Taker vs. A-Train/Big Show... To me, the perfect WM match between the two would have it starting off with Taker and Henry slugging it out in the middle of the ring, punching each other in the face with Henry getting the better of it, and the finish would be a Taker bodyshot. The story would be Taker is unable to beat Henry by hitting him in the head (even a tombstone near-fall, which would have the audience going), but working the body is an entirely different thing. Taker can watch his Gomi tapes and get some inspiration.
Just John 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2006 I thought the match went well until about Daivari's interferrence. I liked the story that Henry wasn't intimidated and overpowered UT in the ring. Taker only got the advantage using the steps. I think if they had gone with UT outsmarting Henry for the finish, it could've been the best tv match of the year so far (I know it's only Feb). I guess for now that title remains with RVD/Carlito.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2006 What I liked about Smackdown this week is that it had a lot more variety than RAW. The Tag Match between MnM and London/Spanky was a good lil match between the two which started off slow but started to pick up once the high spots did. I really liked the finish there as it took a spot you'd normally see in a tag match and combined it with the snap shot, pretty cleverly laid out. The cruiser match was a bit crap and I echo the "who's the heel" sentiment. Kid Kash looks so fucking sleazy, you'd think they'd be able to get something out of that. Helms is a different kind of sleaze, but the sleaze is still there. Why these two guys aren't competing for the drink of a girl which will end up getting some GHB in it, I'll never know. What made this cruiserweight match different from a heavyweight match I'll never know either. I liked the four way, though I will admit to not giving my full attention to it. Benoit and Bradshaw worked very well together in this and they need to get the belt on Benoit ASAP so him and Bradshaw can have a lame excuse to feud over it (my favourite: Bradshaw is upset that a Canadian has the US title). Fuck, did Bradshaws elbow drops look nice tonight. Plus he did one off the second rope which I right marked for. Him selling for Lashley was inspired in getting over Lashley... though it doesn't help that he reacted the exact same way to the Boogerman. FINLAY is pretty much the reason I am even entertaining the thought of watching Smackdown. God I am loving his matches. If they'd tune down on the Irish gimmick and rev up the Ass Stomper gimmick, I'd enjoy it a lot more. I mean, c'mon, a fucking Shillelagh?
Conspiracy_Victim 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2006 OK I just saw what might have been the single greatest skit in WWE/F history. Forget "This is the Rock's life", forget Rock and Austin singing "Margaritaville", forget the Beer Bath. Kennedy tickling midgets and Burchill storming through the set just to say "Hello" to Palmer and Ken has got to be one of the more bizarre TV moments in recent history at least. It was almost Fellini-esque. And to whoever said it, if the Boogeyman had shown up, Chuck Norris might have had to roundhouse kick the skit before it's awesomeness imploded the universe. And then, to top it all off, Finlay fucks the midgets' shit up with what appeared to be a shillelagh. My brain can barely comprehend how great all that crap ended up being. Dangerous A 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2006 Decent show overall. Not bad going into No Way Out, although no fucking way I buy that show. Henry vs Taker was pretty decent, and given the two men involved this was pretty much a miracle. Hopefully they didn't blow their wad before Mania. Rey/Orton stuff was blah. I'm not even shocked. Just turned off and definitely not buying the ppv to watch Vicki and Rey whore themselves out in the name of Eddie. MNM had a decent tag match with the ROH throwbacks. If Nitro can just step up a notch more, MNM can become a memorable act. Too bad that even though they are the tag champs, they are used to feed the main eventers. I didn't like the 4 way. Not even Benoit could save this. He did what he could, but he can't work for 4. Orlando just needs to go. He's horrible and has shown zero improvement since, well, since he debuted. Matt Hardy is uninspired (can't blame him since he's still being punished) and is starting to stink it up in the ring. JBL was paint by numbers except that horrible elbow off the second rope that makes Tenryu's look like the Macho Man. Finlay needs more ass beating segments. I wouldn't mind seeing him get a decent push (not title level, but right above it) and possibly take on a guy like Taker. SD fuckin smoked Raw this week. Just John 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2006 SD's been smoking Raw for quite a while now. I'd say at least since Summer Slam. With all the bad luck SD's gotten with injury, death, and wrestlecrap gimmicks, it's amazing how the show still manages to remain decent overall.

cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2006 With this Orton crap pissing on Eddie's grave I am not going to watch SD. There may be some decent stuff buried in there somewhere but it's not SO good that I can forgive the main angle. Also, if this leads to Orton beating Rey for the title shot and a 10 month Orton title reign, then I shall continue the boycott.
