Hannan should be there. I can guarantee that if he didn't play in San Jose, he'd be on the team. He's underrated as hell.

Turco's stats are a smokescreen. He plays on a team with a heavy trap. Don't get me wrong, he's a great goalie, but not as great as the stats would lead you to believe.

And if CuJo made the team, we'll have more bitching about it.

Couldn't put Theodore in since well he's pathetic, what about Alex Auld, Mathieu Garon, SEAN BURKE, Martin Biron, ED BELFOUR.

Actually if anyone for goalies, Manny Legace should have been on the team.

I think 3/4 of Canada has mentioned that.

The 1/4 are the majority of Leaf fans who would rather see McCabe on the team. These are the same people who thought Darcy Tucker should be on the team as well. These are the same people who are clueless about hockey except the surrounding of the Metropoliton Toronto area (which covers probably 1/4 of Canada now, because its world class...)

Nice reference. Jeopardy Tuesday/Thursday with Jay?

On topic, while I do agree Phaneuf should be there, Mccabe shouldn't not be there.

The goalie selection was fine. Yes Turco's stats are inflated, but these are IMO, the best 3 goalies Canada has right now.

Your on crack not to pick Sakic.

One of the best faceoff men in the game and a threat everywhere on the ice.

I agree that Karyia should be playing, but not Crosby. It would be almost a joke to throw him out there for Canada. It'll be a disgrace to almost Canadian hockey, just because he's the next great one. Alexandre Daigle was labelled that too, why don't we add him.

As much as I love Steve Sullivan and Scott Hannan they shouldn't be on the team. I could say add Michael Ryder and Craig Rivet on the team but thats never going to fucking happen. Doan has been a physical force out there, and is doing well for his own. I don't understand why everyone is so harsh on him, maybe because he took a spot away from your favourite player. Boo fucking hoo.

Grinders = Scoreres. I'd take a bunch of Claude Lemeiuxs, Shane Doans, Kris Drappers, Darren McCarteys, Jarome Iginla, Michael Ryders over the playmakers like Spezza, Thorton (ow my back hurts, I'm a pansy) Crosbys etc.

BTW I think it was Shane Doan grinding away at the front of the net when Canada won the World Cup in 2004.

is it a joke that evgeni malkin is playing for russia? or that henrik lundqvist is playing for sweden? or marek svatos is playing for slovakia? don't get into this middling bullshit comparing crosby to daigle. thats being unrealistic for the sake of furthering your flaccid argument.

i wouldn't even call doan a grinder. his physical presense lies more within taking cheap shots than containing the other players. he has simply proven to be one of, aside form mccabe & smyth, the msot useless player on the team.

its quite fitting that a habs fan would bring up ryder & rivet while critisising joe thorton. i said the team needed grinders, but they also need physical dominance. something thorton CAN do.

i understand canada's loyalty to their old timers (sakic) but he really hasn't been playing very well this year. between missing last year & the rule changes this year, there are a lot of players that are being left in the cold. and while this may sound sacreligious, i don't think joe sakic is necessarily the force everyone has thought of. it was a mistake to ship out forsberg to keep him. he plays a soft game - which can be beneficial - but when he's playing allstar teams every night - his weaknesses are glaring. yes, he wins face offs, so does yanic perrault.

i don't have a favorite player that has been jilted. but watching scott hannan place much of the western conference on lock down hen he plays is as good enough of a reason to pick him. he's an animal. scott sullivan is almost single handidly responsible for the predators turn around. in 2004, he got them in the playoffs. adding kariya to the mix has made him even stronger. that is SPEED. thats why the fins are outplaying them. physical intimidating these teams won't get them anywhere. defending the team may seem noble right now, but the fact we have an enourmous pool of players to pick from & we are losing to switzlerand says something. don't blame round robin. we just don't have a good team. wrong pieces. wrong players. maybe shane doan should be on the team. maybe he'd be good on a line with players of the same ilk. but putting heartless point scoring machines, lecalvier & st louis is silly. brad richards is great, though.

i wouldn't have been against legacy being on the team, btw. brodeur is fine & all, but his day has passed. y'know? time for the dinosaurs to step aside.

The much thought of Crosby on the team is inane. Is he great? Yes. Should he be on the team? No. Crosby isn't a matured player, something that Ovechkin, Malkalin and Lunqvist are. He plays like a junior kid, and if he was resembling Canada the same way he resembles Pittsburgh then he should never wear the Canadian jersey, ever. He should earn it, not just be given it. He's gotta prove something not being labelled the next great one, and so far he's shown to be a hot shot rookie. Thats realistic as you can get. Maybe I didn't realize at first, but now I agree with what Mike was saying about Crosby. He really needs to shut up or someone needs to hit him hard to finally get some sense into him.

Joe Sakic is a leader, and the only other player that should lead the team with hi calibur is Iginla. Like I said, Joe is a threat on the ice wherever he is. Sure he's old but thats where the knowledge is. Its called Puck Awareness and that takes talent and time to perfect it like he has done. There's only a limited amount of guys on the team that has amazing puck awareness as Sakic does with and without the puck. BTW you rarely saw Forseburg and Sakic on the same line.

Doan not a grinder? Do you even know what a grinder means? Something that Shane Doan does. So he's having an off season so far, but if you have Doan, Smyth and Draper as your checking line (which Quinn should do) then you have a steady defensive line. Possibly Kirk Maltby on there as well if he was playing, but thats about it for grinders.

I know Rivet and Ryder wont make the team, but you gotta be realistic too, neither of those players (Hannan and Sullivan) were going to make the team. While I do agree you gotta have speed on the open ice surface (which Canada never had in 2002 either) they won on a excellent team chemestry (something Canada doesn't have either). Maybe you should take your fanboy-ism out of the thread if you want to make solid arguements. The Fins basically outplayed them left right and centre. They have a solid offense that has the best chemistry in the tournament. They play like a team. Though I'm more surprised that their goaltending is top notch. Switzerland had a game plan, and stuck with it. On the PK against Canada, they made Canada shoot the puck from the perimiter and forced Canada to make bad passes. Switzerland also played like a team.

Thorton has been a soft player for years. I have no idea why everyone says he's tough, but when he's out there he seems to be gliding on ice looking lost, and when the pressure comes he just fades away. Sure's a great player, but he seems to cautious out there and afraid to take the lumps and bruises. If Thorton never played for Boston, Mr. Cherry would rip him apart.

And taking away Brodeur?? Sure the first goal was kinda of a soft goal, but there was no chance of Brodeur getting the second goal.

Who would I've drafted for this team.

Sakic-Iginla-Gange

Heatley-Spezza-Staal

Smyth-Doan-Draper

Bertuzzi-Nash-Karyia

Tanguay

Jovonoski-Foote

Pronger-Phaneuf

Boyle-Neidermyer

Bowmeister

Brodeur

Luongo

Legacy

Taxi Squad

Morrison

Savard

Blake

If Brierre was healthy I'd probably have him on the Taxi squad instead of Savard or Morrison

Only thing I'll dispute because I don't want to get into this whole thing. Joe Thornton is tough. When he plays on edge like he has been in San Jose, he's dangerous. He's been running people left and right.

Robert Esche is starting against Russia. Commence blowout, but DiPietro will be rested for the QF.

John Grahame, from Tampa

For niskie sake, throw Hal Gill in, he might improve the States as well.
Hal Gill even being on the taxi squad is a fucking farce. Putting him on the actual team would give me a reason to route against the US team. I'd rather they put Jack Johnson out there than Hal Gill.

While the best player this game for Canada has clearly been Brodeur, Kris Draper should get honourable mention. Say what you will about him being named to the squad, but he's clearly been bringing his lunchbox to the rink today, and every game for that matter.

Something completly off sidetrack, but I was looking at the previous World Juniors for some odd reason and in 1998, Canada finished 8th in the tournament losing to Kazhakstan. The goalies were Matthieu Garon and Roberto Luongo.

Russia-US was an awesome game.

Slovakia v. Czech Republic sounds all kinds of awesome

There's gonna have to be some bad blood, I would think.

I'm gonna slip my boss a few bucks tomorrow to let me bring a radio to work. I'm told he's been steadfast against it for 20 years. Fortunately, it's payday.

How has no one mentioned this Swedish debacle?

If it doesn't work, here's to what I'm referring:

TORINO, Italy (AP) - Peter Bondra, Marian Hossa and Radoslav Suchy each scored as unbeaten Slovakia shut out Sweden 3-0 on Tuesday in Olympics men's hockey.

A stir was created before the game when Sweden coach Bengt-Ake Gustafsson suggested his team might be better off losing because it would face Switzerland in the quarter-finals Wednesday, instead of Canada or the Czech Republic.

canada had a combined 8 shots in the last two perdiods. luckily they got off to a hot start. but russia is going to beat them. and its going to hurt. i can't imagine them even sniffing a medal in this tournament. they've been dominated by everyone except italy & germany.

Russia is going to dominate Canada. It ain't gonna be pretty. They'll skate circles around them, and you can't trap when there's guys that fast that can break it.

I feel really good about the US chances to beat Finland. If Esche didn't start, they would have beat Russia. I think they've woke up. Tomorrow, I'm going to be taping the US game and avoiding the internet and radio like the plague.
