Storied Franchises in Total Disarray

Recommended Posts

And there are a shitload of cities that'd love to have 7 world championships in the last 15 years (6 for the Bulls, plus the WS win last year).

Try being a Seattle fan. One National Championship from the Sonics back in '79. (Before I was born, and I'm 25). The Sonics are intermittently successful, much like the Seahawks, but every Seattle team is known as a bunch of chokers. Mariners have never been to a WS, Seahawks finally went, thank God. (then they got no respect)

I gotta say it must suck being a Cubs fan.

Czech, the Bulls championship win while you were in pre-school ... was that their first win or their last win? If it was their last win, then, yeah, I agree that it shouldn't count towards the championship success that you've seen in your lifetime. But if it was the first, or one of the first, then it should count, because it'd mean that your elementary school years were chock full o' success. Hell, I'm counting the Celtics wins, and those happened while I was between the ages of 7 & 11.

First Bulls win was preschool, 6th was 6th grade. I went T-Th pre-school, M-W-F pre-school, 1st grade, but that's not important.

Oh by the way, you guys should know that Bill Wirtz is NEVER selling the Blackhawks, EVER. Why would he? Strapped for cash? He owns like the half the city or something. I don't believe his son is any different, either. The future is bleak.

ever since Ewing's decline in 99, the Knicks may be one of the worst run teams in the history of sports...bad trades, bad free agent pickups, bad coaching choices, bad front office choices, bad draft choices, Isiah Thomas in general, the list goes on and on...it's embarassing to be a fan of theirs.

Well, I don't know if you can count the Detroit Liions as a storied franchise, but they were a powerhouse in the 1950's. In such a sports mad place like Detroit, it is awful that our football team has won one playoff game in my DAD's lifetime. One playoff win in 50 years is just awful and the organization went from being constantly mediocre during the Fontes/Sanders years to being absolutely terrible since Millen took over. Detroit has had 3 Red Wings, 3 Pistons, 2 Tigers, since then, but the Lions just tear our hearts out.

As for the Tigers, I have hope that they will be much better this season, they had a ton of injuries last season, and they have made some nice moves this offseason. The Tigers are one of the most storied organizations in baseball, and it is just sad to see all the losing seasons in a row, the Randy Smith era of suck. I'm almost 21 years old, and I've seen maybe two winning seasons that I can remember. Contrary to my dad's generation, who saw the great '68 and '84 teams, plus division titles and the streak of winning records from like 1979-1988

The 'hawks best chance of becoming something really good again is pretty much "prospect develops into a superstar", kind of like Iginla did in Calgary. They need a guy that's a face of the franchise & helps them compete every night. It's unlikely that they'll sign someone as a FA to fill that role, so they're really reliant on a draft pick or a young, unknown player developing into a franchise player.

Philadelphia 76ers:

Fire Billy King. This may sound a bit controversial, but trade Allen Iverson as well. The team is going to be where they are currently until he retires or leaves via free agency because of how they have to craft the team around him(partly because of Billy King as well.) They won't be able to compete with teams such as Detroit and Miami in the East, so they might as well blow it up and start over.

I think they're waiting for Ruutu to make that leap.

If they rumors of them going after Samsonov in the offseason are true, that's not a bad pairing to build around. Neither are ready to be "The Franchise" but it would be a good start to rebuilding the organization.

It's not a bad core, but Ruutu and Sammy aren't going to lead them anywhere. Samsonov needs to prove that he's going to stay healthy and not miss time consistantly with minor, nagging injuries. Ruutu still has a bright future in front of him, but to put he and Samsonov on the same team, they'd need a top center at some point. The closest to that on their active roster is Mark Bell, much criticized for his inconsistancy.

Ever since they traded Ewing, they'd been getting bad contracts, and injured stars. Recently they finally started to go with the young player route, and have some nice young players for the first time in like two decades. There.

I have NEVER seen the Tigers field a good baseball team..thats absolutely sad...ehh...adding Jones Rogers and losing Johnson and whoever they lost just mean its another 72 win season..ho hum...and the Lions are unbearable but at least we had Barry and made the playoffs every other year in the 90s basically....but both teams are in the dumps..its hard for me to even get excited with Mike Martz there...Joey is back for year #5..I mean wtf when is enough enough?...in the past 25 years..ive only seen 1 QB suck his 1st 4 full seasons and boom hes a pro bowler and thats Plummer and he made the playoffs his 2nd year

Zhamnov is a top center; maybe the 'hawks will take him off the B's hands.

Know how I know that Zhamnov is a top center? Because MOC paid him like one.

They'll have a good chance at getting Phil Kessel in this years draft.

As a 49ers fan, I can relate to these.

Bad coaching choices (Dennis Erickson, anybody?)

Bad front office choices (Terry Donahue)

Bad draft choices (Kwame Harris, JJ Stokes, Reggie McGrew. All three were first rounders at some point and turned out to be horrible)

Not to mention the salary cap hell of the last few years too.
