Vyce Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 Disturbed cover of Shout was cool. Disturbed cover of Land of Confusion is not cool. You're half WRONG as Disturbed's Land of Confusion is actually a good cover. And if I may defend Disturbed, they are neither "nu-metal" nor "shit". One of the better rock bands in the past five years.
Corey_Lazarus Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 They started out as an above-average nu-metal band, turned into a REALLY damn good heavy radio/rock band, and now...they're about on the same level as pieces of shit like Seether and Trapt.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted February 22, 2006 Author Report Posted February 22, 2006 I agree with you Inc on the Pixies cover of Head On, but there's nothing wrong with JAMC version as well. Hey, I said I like the JAMC original just fine. But the Pixies took it, cut out the British moping bastard part and turned it into the bright, fist-pumping, anthemic love song that it is.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted February 22, 2006 Author Report Posted February 22, 2006 Plenty of people seem to like "Wild Horses", so it probably should be mentioned here, since it's a Flying Burrito Brothers original. I kid you not. It's a Stones-penned tune that Keith Richards let his buddy Gram Parsons record a year before the Stones did it themselves. Not a FBB original.
The Man in Blak Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 Ah, I didn't realize it was still written by the Stones. Mea culpa. Though, as Rando alluded to, it brings into question what exactly constitutes a cover of a song. Should the Gram Parsons and the FBB version be considered a cover, since the original authors recorded their version of the song after the "first" one?
Corey_Lazarus Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 Sorta like Danzig and Johnny Cash when it comes to the song "Thirteen." Danzig wrote it for Cash, Cash released it, and then Danzig released it.
Annabelle Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 i've always like parsons version more. its simpler. more harmonious. jagger sounds a little too jagger in that song. i don't listen to the stones for gentle ballads, man. i been listening to alotta the dirtbombs lately. if that counts.
PLAGIARISM! Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 The Fall's version of 'I Can Hear The Grass Grow' off the new album is cool. But more cos of the album.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted February 23, 2006 Author Report Posted February 23, 2006 i been listening to alotta the dirtbombs lately. if that counts. Good man. The all covers Ultraglide in Black is their best album, though that all originals half of the If You Don't Already Have a Look comp surpasses the covers half.
Annabelle Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 i've only listened to ultraglide. i'll check out their later stuff sometime soon.
Rendclaw Posted February 27, 2006 Report Posted February 27, 2006 Metallica - Killing Time Foo Fighters - Baker Street That is all.
Positively Kanyon Posted February 27, 2006 Report Posted February 27, 2006 'A Night To Remember' by Liberty X... A cover of the classic Shalamar disco hit... Yes, I like disco.
PLAGIARISM! Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 The Knife's version of 'Heartbeats' wipes the floor with José Gonzalez's.
