Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted February 22, 2006 I'm most surprised about Agent's answer. I would have pegged him as someone that gets trashed often. I get drunk not too often, once every week, sometimes two weeks really.
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted February 22, 2006 I'm most surprised about Agent's answer. I would have pegged him as someone that gets trashed often. He's got better things to do. By this, I mean "more interesting ways to spend his time," and also "he takes more exciting drugs than alcohol."

Matt Young 0 Report post Posted February 22, 2006 After not really drinking for a week, I had 3 tall cans of 211 last night. I'm not hung over as in feeling sick, but I feel groggy enough that I don't want to drink again for a while. A little over a week ago, I'd drink every night if possible. Now I'd rather not. I get a more enjoyable "buzz" from working out.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted February 22, 2006 Actually, I don't use drugs anymore either. The very occasional joint, but I never purchase the stuff. I have however pounded just about every illicit substance on earth into my skull at one time or another. The most exciting ones were 5MeO-DIPT, LSD, and hallucinogenic mushrooms. I'd do some DMT once if it were accessible, in a psychotropic concentration, though, it's virtually as rare as getting weapons grade plutonium.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted February 22, 2006 Well last night I got too drunk at the bar last night, and ended up losing my wallet walking home last night, with my ID card. So now I have to wait 2 weeks to get another ID, I guess now I have to get drunk at home now. And also, I smoke weed everyday. I need it to function in the real world. In the first post you made it sound like your "Stressed out drinking days" were long behind you, when only last week you would have been content to get drunk everyday? You're not over it, you've just had a slow week.

You're not over it, you've just had a slow week. Normally, that observation would be accurate. However, due to my circumstances, it is not. Ihave made several positive changes recently. And it's not like I'm trying to resist temptation to drink. I just plain don't want to drink. I guess my prediction on this forum of 2006 being a year full of changes was spot on. PLAGIARISM! 0 Report post Posted February 22, 2006 Funny that it coincided with this thread, but I had a couple whilst watching football in the pub earlier and then became very irritable and depressed after I stopped drinking, got destroyed on Brian Lara Cricket and realised I had to read Fiesta: The Sun Also Rises for tomorrow (I'm about half way through). I really would rather be loaded now. Like really.

Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2006 I drink socially, so I'd have to say no. From rare experiences, it takes a lot to get me drunk, which is fine, since I prefer a buzz over that, anyway. I'm not sure how people drink more daily; anytime I've had more than a few I feel like a slug who should go find a treadmill.

Detox 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2006 I am drinking, and Red Hot Chili Peppers "Under The Bridge" just came up on my shuffle Maybe you should seek your namesake I have tried, but when you plan your evenings by how drunk you must be to watch a show it doesn't add out. I watched 2 hours of Mythbusters earlier, so that cancels out watching the George Lopez show.
Guest Brian Report post Posted February 23, 2006 Isn't part of the definition of being an alcoholic that you don't acknowledge you havea problem, or that drinking is a problem for you?
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2006 Yeah, but I know people who are fully aware that they are. Of course, I'm at the age where that sort of thing is still considered to be funny.
Matt Young 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2006 If I drank like I did up until recently, it'd slow my progress in the weightlifting department. I recently started a workout routine, and the endorphin rush I get from a good workout feels great. Nothinglike alcohol, obviously, but it's an even better stress reliever. I don't get off on it like wildpegasus, though. Sobriety is great when you can live a stress free, bitch free, enjoyable, lifestyle.
nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2006 Matt, let me reiterate the point that Paragon made: IT'S BEEN A FUCKING WEEK. Don't think that you've made this huge lifestyle change because 8 days ago you slowed down drinking and started working out more. I haven't done coke since last Friday ... should I be patting my back and bending over to fellate myself because I've been to the gym 4 times since my last line? If in a month, two months, six months, you're still not drinking/barely drinking & hitting the gym a lot, THEN you can say "I've made a huge lifestyle change". But don't put the cart before the fucking horse, man.

I didn't stop for the sake of not drinking. I stopped because the cause of my drinking was eliminated.
nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2006 I'm not dismissing it, Matt, I'm just reiterating the fact that it's been a week, and thus isn't enough time to trumpet it as anything worth noting. Just because one cause of drinking has been eradicated doesn't mean another one isn't right around the corner. Like the alky's say: One Day at a Time. And, no, I don't mean the show with Schneider and the formerly fuckable Valerie Bertinelli.

Just because one cause of drinking has been eradicated doesn't mean another one isn't right around the corner. Like the alky's say: One Day at a Time. And, no, I don't mean the show with Schneider and the formerly fuckable Valerie Bertinelli. All right then. I see where you're coming from, but I know I'm done drinking heavily. Could there be something/someone else that causes me to do so in the future? Of course. But for now, I am drinking once a week. I'm just happy to note that I don't feel the need to drink alcohol just to drink. I personally don't have a problem with myself or others drinking more often. I just feel better now that I don't do that.

And I apologize if I came across as a dismissive prick ... it wasn't really my intention. Your saying "But for now, I am drinking once a week." is a really good way to word it. It's much less of a permanent declaration, which is how I (potentially mistakenly) read your earlier posts.
Special K 0 Report post Posted February 26, 2006 I'm a total alcoholic. No fucking doubt. I'm recovering, which is great, I go to meetings and shit. I'm only 25, and It almost ruined my life. I did quite a bit of shit. Alcohol, weed, crack, LSD, nitrous. Alcohol's the only thing that kicked MY ass, but damn did it kick it hard. I am so fucking lucky I have my job and house. I mean I LOVED me some acid, so I just fucking quit. I probably dropped acid 6 times, and every time was fucking GREAT. So I quit. It's an incredibly powerful drug, but it doesn't get in your fucking soul like alcohol. I was a fun-time drinker like most. Then, my senior year of college, my gf broke up with me, my friend died of cancer, and my brother got cancer. In the span of a week, and I know I was weak. That's when I turned my life over to alcohol. It was gradual. But that's when it happened. Not to say you can't become an alcoholic because you like to party. I'm fucking GLAD I was a shitty drunk, no fun to be around. It's why I have my health. Sort of. Alcoholism eventually affects about 10% of male adults in this country. 10%. And I wouldn't wish it on my worst fucking enemy.
