NoCalMike Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 My Toshiba has one HDMI input currently, and I use it for my upconverting player. If I get a PS3 I am going to get to need a switch cause plugging/unplugging gets annoying, especially if you don't want your cables laid out everywhere.
Craig Th Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 Yeah, I got one of those switchers and it makes it so much easier. It only cost $30 and was the one metioned earlier in this thread.

Jaxxson Mayhem Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 Obsessing over connectors is silly. Just get the TV if you like it. HDMI looks better than component and like Marv said, HDMI does audio which is great. Im stuck using a DVI-HDMI connector. The only thing is since DVI doesnt pass audio, the audio which the HDMI does pass wont go to the TV so you have to use the red/white audio cables. Im not at all an audiophile so I cant hear any difference at all. Also, theres a chance that the DVI isn't HDCP compatible which means some sources that are HDCP encrypted wont work, which includes BluRay and HD-DVD discs and some cable/sat boxes. Id make sure if you're buying a tv regardless that it have at least two sets of component inputs and ideally two sets of HDMI/DVI inputs to avoid running into input shortage problems like I am. You upconverter isn't HDMI? And I wish I had two HDMI inputs because switching stuff is a pain in the ass sometimes. I have to get up and hit the switch on HDMI swithcer. Here ya go. http://www.monoprice.com/products/product....at=1#largeimage You'll never have to get up again.
Craig Th Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 That's not bad. But the one I have is nice still and it's only $30. You have to get up, but whatever.
Jaxxson Mayhem Posted March 15, 2007 Report Posted March 15, 2007 Fuck. I finally got that Olevia tv today. It sucks cause it came with a straight line of pixels that are fucked up about 2 inches from the left side.
Jaxxson Mayhem Posted March 15, 2007 Report Posted March 15, 2007 Well return it. Don't know if it's worth the frustration. I have to mail it all the way back to California and wait another 2 weeks at least between sending it there and getting it back. It's weird tho. The line doesn't appear all the time. Anyone know what i'm talkin bout and what the problem is?
Craig Th Posted March 15, 2007 Report Posted March 15, 2007 Sounds like dead pixels or something. Just send it back and get another one. It should still be under the warranty, so do it. Worth the trouble???? It's an expensive machine and it's worth all the trouble. Don't be a dope about this. I know you want to watch some HDTV, but this might be the beginning of more problems with this TV. Next thing you know, it won't turn on.
Jaxxson Mayhem Posted March 15, 2007 Report Posted March 15, 2007 Ya, it's under warranty for a year.
Dobbs 3K Posted March 15, 2007 Report Posted March 15, 2007 YEah, send it back right away. Demand that they fix it or send you a brand new TV.
MarvinisaLunatic Posted March 15, 2007 Report Posted March 15, 2007 Its Vizio that has the "not one dead pixel" guarantee on their LCDs.. If its a whole row you might have a case, but on most LCDs theres an acceptable # of DPs that they wont allow a return on.
Jaxxson Mayhem Posted March 15, 2007 Report Posted March 15, 2007 Ya, I think I read it has to be more than 7 or something. I also gotta mention that it's refurbished and I'm only payin $100 for it.
Craig Th Posted March 15, 2007 Report Posted March 15, 2007 Wow, you only paid $100 for it? Jeez, that's great.
Jaxxson Mayhem Posted March 15, 2007 Report Posted March 15, 2007 Ya, that's why i'm wondering if it's worth the trouble. This is the 2nd tv that they've sent. The 1st one wouldnt show a picture. Now this one has a column of fucked up pixels, but they arent always noticeable. That's why i'm wondering if the next one they send will be more fucked up.
Jaxxson Mayhem Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 I'm sending it back to get a non-broken tv.
Craig Th Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 Good job and if you get another broken one, then you should send it back again and look elsewhere. Even though it's only 100, it's still nice to have a working TV.
Jaxxson Mayhem Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 Ya. It's usually a $700 tv, but my friends sellin it to me for $100, and i don't mind sending it back cause they let me keep this one till they ship the new one, then i send this one back. So i'm not without a hdtv while i wait.
Vampiro69 Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 I had a similar situation with a 32 inch LCD Samsung that I bought at Best Buy. I had a solid like about 1/8 of an inch going down the left third of the screen. Took it back to Best Buy and they gave me a brand new one and it works great.
Craig Th Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 YES. Here in Long Island with Cablevision, we finally got National Geograhic and Discovery HD. I am pumped! Just give me ESPN2HD and I'll be allll set.

Craig Th Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 Yeah, but how much do you pay a month for service? $9.99 for the basic. And you had to buy a satellite. And a receiver. How much do I pay? $9.95 a month for a cable box. That's it. The HD channels are free. And how is that DirecTV internet? Oh wait, no such thing. Have fun on dial-up.
Dandy Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 My parentd have DirecTV, and there were ads on there a few years back for DirecWAY, a satellite internet system. It was insanely expensive, but they do have it.

Directv has satellite internet, its just expensive and you cant use it for gaming because of the lag times and I think at best its like 1.5 mb for $70 a month. I paid $399 for the tivo so I own the damn thing despite it being worth squat here shortly..bleh..although supposedly I'll be allowed to upgrade to their new HD DVR but I wont own it and it wont be Tivo based. $5.99 for the tivo service which is awesome consideing SA tivo service is more than twice that, $9.99 for the new "HD Access Fee" which covers all the HD channels that I can get. The satellite thats up was free. Im only paying more than you because I have an HD Tivo, and if you went and got a new Series 3 HD Tivo youd be paying $799 for the box and $12.95 a month for it..so HA. And Im sure if your cable company has their own HD DVR, youd pay at least $5.99 a month and it wouldnt be dual tuner like the HD Tivo I have. My total bill isn't even $65 even though Directv just raised rates like $2 again. I have what used to be Total Choice Plus with HD and DVR.
Craig Th Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 Why the hell are you arguing with me about this? Does it really matter? Jesus, you need a life Marv. I pay $9.95 for the DVR service, which isn't Tivo based and has a dual tuner.

And most of the DVRs are dual tuners for the cable companies as well. You knowledge fails you once again!
MarvinisaLunatic Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 Last I heard anything about the Series 3 Tivos they were still $799..and I dont know anyone that has a dual tuner cable DVR and Comcast is the one serving Salisbury.
CanadianGuitarist Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 Jesus, you need a life Marv. You insulted the man's Internet connection.... On the subject of DVR's, anyone heard about the XBOX 360 having DVR capbilities? I'm told it's in the works.
Jaxxson Mayhem Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 Shit. I just looked into my cable providers DVR and they said a dual tuner HD DVR is $12 a month. I'm gonna try to get that.
