Here's the very rarely seen Macho Man vs Flair rematch where Flair wins the belt for the second time. This is the match that supposedly had to be completely redone since the first time around because the match was of really poor quality. I think both wrestlers went to the back in the middle of the match, and they just started over with the entrances. I assume this was probably very confusing for the people in attendance live. Even the final product isn't particularly good, it's just 15 minutes of Savage selling the leg.

All Japan guys on a early 80's Japan satire show. Features Jumbo as Super Mario and Tenyru as a solder. Also Giant Baba as a woman.

The match itself is mediocre, but Heenan and announcer Vince are enjoyalbe.

I made a little compilation video of the storyline where the Rock turned heel at Survivor Series 1998. As far as wrestling storylines go, it really doesn't get much better. The brilliance of it was not just in what it did for the Rock and that it surprised the hell out of everyone, but also in how it catapulted Foley's popularity from a mildly popular guy to.. well, getting the reaction that he got when he won the title two months later.

The sequel. The night where Mankind wins the world title.

WWE was so unpredictable back then. Before I watched this to record it, I had forgotten that the night started off with Mankind asking for a title shot at the ROYAL RUMBLE. The people there that night were really in for a treat. Not a single one of them could have guessed the way the night would end up.

The next time anyone thinks to say something negative about Vince Russo, think about this. Without Russo, this night and the moment at the end would not have happened. In fact, here's Russo talking about it. How many times can you picture the writers since he left saying "Well, the fans think they want this, but they don't really know what they want."? Probably a lot. I wonder sometimes what he could have done for Jericho, Benoit, Guerrero, and Rob Van Dam had he stayed.

The next time anyone thinks to say something positive about Vince Russo, think about this: just before he came to WCW the first time, WCW commissioned a huge marketing survey to find out what it's fans wanted. They wanted more emphasis on wrestling and less emphasis on stupid skits. Russo came on board, looked at the survey, and binned it before going in completely the opposite direction that WCW's own fans wanted.

It works both ways.

Great moment, sure. There are dozens of moments in there though that were completely unmemorable because they were hotshot gimmicks designed to fool and shock the audience rather than make any sense. I've gone on record saying Wrestlemania XV was the worst of the bunch. The '99 Royal Rumble was the worst rumble match in company history. At some point he went to WCW and booked Mayhem, featuring the worst good match I have ever seen between Chris Benoit and Bret Hart. And that was the highlight.

Don't forget Starrcade in 1999, with a slew of screwjob finishes such as a color commentator getting the winning pinfall, Kevin Nash winning the Powerbomb match against Sid by telling the referee he'd hit the powerbomb while the referee had been knocked out, and the perennial favorite, a rehash of Montreal.

Or winning the WCW World Heavyweight title in a cage match against Booker T after IIRC, Booker T threw him through the cage thus making Russo the victor via escape

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the triple threat match between Nash, Goldberg and Scott Steiner at New Blood Rising when talking about crappy Russo booking.

Let's get back to the topic at hand;

Speaking of crappy later WCW, here's Jeff Jarrett Vs Sting from Halloween Havoc 2000. With the immortal team of Tony Schiavone, Mark Madden and Stevie Ray on commentary.

The Rock/Mankind stuff I posted more than makes up for everything else he's done. None is it even that horrible. I would take all of that in a second over John Cena holding the title for a year and The Boogeyman eating worms. I was never a big fan of 1999, but I always considered myself in the minority. The ratings showed that most people had no problem at all with what he was doing.

We all know he's had a lot of dumb ideas as well, but that doesn't take away from the fact that a lot of people's favorite memories would not have happened without him.

So did anyone actually watch the videos?

I remember there was a video compilation of all the stupid shit WCW was doing at that time, including Sid's nonsensical promos, the Russo blood thing that was mentioned, etc. I tried to find it on YouTube, but I don't remember what it was called.

Mankind's title win I've seen elsewhere recently. The Survivor Series '98 event doesn't hold up well because the one good match in there is marred by an ending so weak that WWE never showed it again on television. The Rock/Mankind feud was so full of screwjobs and dusty finishes that fans were relieved that it wasn't overturned this time, even if it resulted in a match where ten men stood around ringside and another three or four interfered in the match.

If it was any wrestler besides Mankind, it would not be remembered in a favorable light.

I didn't upload the SS98 event though, just the storyline. The only match I have there in full is Mankind vs Dwayne Gill. The Mankind title win is already on youtube. I didn't upload it for that. I uploaded it to show the storyline of the night. I think if you watch it altogether (from a few weeks before Survivor Series to Mankind's title win), it makes a lot of sense, it all seems well thought out, and it's remarkable how hated it made the Rock and how ultra popular Foley became from it.

All you should have to do is listen to the heel heat the Rock recieves coming out the next night on Raw, before he even says a word, to see that the ending to SS was perfect.

Why doesn't the screwjob ending from Austin vs Rock at WMX7 get all the hate that this ending gets? I don't understand it. It's pretty much the same ending. Someone sells out to Vince McMahon for an easy win and sympathy is generated for the other wrestler. Only in the case of Rock/Mankind, it's a whole fucking lot better because Mankind had been treating the Corporation like they were his family for months. The fans knew from Vince's facial expressions that he really couldn't stand Mankind, so they felt sorry for him for that. And they felt sorry for him because of the beating he took in the Hell in a Cell. Then SS98 happened. Then he got screwed out of his hardcore title, which was as JR put it "the only thing Mick Foley had left in his life".

Judging from how loud the crowd is during Foley's entrance on the night he won the title, the pop Austin gets when he comes out to save Mankind - one of the loudest Austin pops I've ever heard, and the subsequent pop when the ref makes the three count, not to mention the ratings at the time, the screwjobs and dusty finishes did very little to hamper the fans' enjoyment of the feud. It actually probably just made the fans want the Rock to lose more.

Nothing was wrong with people interfering. Mankind already proved he could beat the Rock cleanly. He did it at Rock Bottom. He had the Rock beat again until Shamrock interfered. It was only fitting for Austin to help Mankind and cost the Rock the title, since Austin and Mankind were the two guys the Corporation screwed over at Survivor Series. This was the payback. Mankind beat the Rock cleanly again when he won the title for the second time too, in the empty arena match.

If it was any wrestler besides Mankind, it would not be remembered in a favorable light.

Of course. It would have to be a wrestler that would make the crowd pop as huge as they did for it to work. The story was also designed around Foley's real life story.

[

The Mankind/Rock deal 'makes up' for Russo making a total mess of WCW?

Ok.

WCW was already a total mess before he got there. He didn't do anything but turn shit into a different type of shit.

Shawn Michaels vs. Vader in a dark match

Don't blink, because you will miss it.

This is awesome.
