Guest Evolution Posted March 5, 2006 Report Posted March 5, 2006 Not very happy about Aquamarine outdrawing Block Party, hopefully word of mouth will help keep numbers steady or even make them rise--I'm going to see the film on Tuesday. And when you're one of Oprah's favorite actors, it's no surprise that your movie is #1 in the nation two weeks in a row.
2GOLD Posted March 5, 2006 Report Posted March 5, 2006 Madea's pretty funny, much like the first one the story is pretty meh but Perry makes up for it with his hilarious family characters. And nothing else really came out this week. Ultraviolet started looking dumber and dumber with each preview for me and 16 Blocks just didn't look interesting at all. Block Party looks interesting but I'm not spending 9 bucks on it.
Mole Posted March 5, 2006 Report Posted March 5, 2006 Wow, I thought Block Party was going to do much better than that.
Red Baron Posted March 5, 2006 Report Posted March 5, 2006 Damn, I hope Ultraviolet was going to bomb.
Cherry Blossom Viscount Posted March 5, 2006 Report Posted March 5, 2006 Um, I wouldn't call 9 million a stellar debut by any means.
Youth N Asia Posted March 6, 2006 Report Posted March 6, 2006 I expected Ultraviolent to do about half actually. It looks like Aeon Flux plus 50% more suck. I don't see it in the top 10 very long
Placebo Effect Posted March 6, 2006 Report Posted March 6, 2006 Not very happy about Aquamarine outdrawing Block Party, hopefully word of mouth will help keep numbers steady or even make them rise--I'm going to see the film on Tuesday. Aquamarine was twice as many theaters and still only made a million more. That's pretty positive. Ultraviolet is one of those cases where not screening it for critics was the best move. The studio is probably happy with $9 million because, hey, it's February. They've been holding onto the film for two years now because they knew it was going to bomb. And the top movie of the weekend making $13 million? Wow. I remember when The Fog topped the B.O. with $11 or so and people cited that it was the lowest top grossing movie in something like ten years.
Lord of The Curry Posted March 6, 2006 Report Posted March 6, 2006 48 mil? Shit, did the reperations cheques finally come through or something?
Placebo Effect Posted March 6, 2006 Report Posted March 6, 2006 48 mil? Shit, did the reperations cheques finally come through or something? That was funny. No, wait. It wasn't.
Guest Retro Rob Posted March 6, 2006 Report Posted March 6, 2006 Just out of curiosity, of all the people who are ripping on Madea's Family Reunion, how many people actually saw it? And not only that, but went into it with an open mind?
ant_7000 Posted March 7, 2006 Report Posted March 7, 2006 I saw Madea last week, and thought it was a little "soap opera" ish and all over the place with subplots, but it was ok. Less Madea scenes made the movie a little better than the first. I saw Block Party, and it was good, the concert scenes blend in Chappelle's jokes/commentary very nicely. I have most of the artists albums, so I was singing along like I was there. I like the interviews from the artists as well.
UseTheSledgehammerUh Posted March 7, 2006 Report Posted March 7, 2006 I saw a preview for Maeda on Leno. The camera shots and lighting looked like a third grader shot the thing. The characters were so bush-league in their attempts to look funny. The main guy behind the thing was very boring and dry on Leno, and I didn't find the jokes he told on the show or in the clips to be very funny. It looks like some shitty video some people made to entertain idiots.
Ripper Posted March 7, 2006 Report Posted March 7, 2006 Oh shut the fuck up. The first movie made a truckload of cash because the plays made a truckload of cash. They are movies with good messages basically. I personally don't care for them, but a HELL of alot of people do like them and there is a reason to. I always find it ironic when people call others idiots because they don't understand anything. Last time I checked, that makes you the idiot.
Ripper Posted March 7, 2006 Report Posted March 7, 2006 I saw Madea last week, and thought it was a little "soap opera" ish and all over the place with subplots, but it was ok. Less Madea scenes made the movie a little better than the first. See I thought that the Madea scenes in the first one were pretty well balanced (well, not in the start) in the first one. The rest of the movie were so dramatic (asshole husband, drug addicted wife) that her scenes were needed to bring levity to it. I do feel that the movie should have had more Steve Harris though. I haven't seen the second one yet.
Guest Retro Rob Posted March 7, 2006 Report Posted March 7, 2006 I saw a preview for Maeda on Leno. Yeah, and I've seen a ton of terrible previews for great movies and great previews for terrbile movies. A trailer is not enough to base your opinion on of a movie that you haven't seen. The camera shots and lighting looked like a third grader shot the thing. Maybe the film didn't translate to your television very well, because the lighting was fine and there were some nice shots in the actual movie. The characters were so bush-league in their attempts to look funny. Aside from one character, Joe, none of them are attempting to look funny, so they can't really be bush league in their non-attempt. Perry doesn't have Madea in there to look funny, but to be funny through her actions. He actually doesn't want her to look like a giant woman, but the guy is 6'4'' so he doesn't have much of a choice. The main guy behind the thing was very boring and dry on Leno, and I didn't find the jokes he told on the show or in the clips to be very funny. Just because he's not funny as himself on Leno doesn't mean he can't be funny when acting in a movie. Which he actually is pretty damn funny as two characters, and plays the straight man as a third character. It looks like some shitty video some people made to entertain idiots. Trust me, there is definitely some shit that you like that sucks a whole lot more ass than anything Tyler Perry has ever produced.
