Puckett Dies Following Stroke

Hall of Famer Kirby Puckett died Monday, a day after suffering a stroke at his Arizona home, a hospital spokeswoman said. The 44-year-old Puckett, who led the Twins to two World Series titles before his career was cut short by glaucoma, was stricken Sunday morning at his Arizona home.

I can't remember the game, or even which World Series it was right now, probably because I'm thinking about it, but I can't get the image of that game winning WS HR to deep left center out of my head.

RIP Kirby

Jack Buck's call of Pucketts home run was great, "and we will see you tomorrow night!"

I was at the game when he announced his retirement. The dome is going to be a sad place on opening day.

This is a total shock. Kirby was one of my favorite baseball players as well (I'm a Braves fan), but for some reason I always watching him enjoy playing, even against the Braves.

Really sad. Always a strange feeling remembering seeing someone play their sport in their prime, and now they're gone.

Wow. I knew he was in critical condition, but I didn't really think he'd go. I left a browser open while I went to the gym. On the page, it said that Puckett was in critical condition. I came home just now, clicked the link and saw that it now said he had died. Sad how his last few years were spent.

I became a fan of the game too late to really appreciate the guy. I still vividly remember him being forced to retire, though.

RIP, Kirby.

I....wow...I didn't think he would die. I mean, my mom pulled through her stroke... God, this sucks. I'm a Red Sox fan, but I can't deny his greatness and I have this card of him that's one of my favorites. It's an illustration of him with a fuse on his bat. I can't find a picture of it though, nor do I have a scanner handy. R.I.P.

Can some of you school me on strokes?

*waits a few seconds to allow the obvious jokes to flow in*

Did Kirby have a condition that could have directly lead to this, or was it just "one of those things"?

I had a feeling it was almost over when they said all of his family and friends were going to be there. That just said "saying their goodbyes" to me.

Really sad ending to a sad final decade for him.

Yeah he had a condition.

It's called obesity.

And I always liked Kirby, despite his troubles after he retired.

It's a blood clot in the brain. Any number of factors can lead to one.

Wow, I didn't know he was that big.

Stuff like this makes me want to go out and live a really healthy life in every way.

It's just too bad that most people don't let stuff like this really get to them.

Yeah, look at some recent pics of him... he got really big in his last years. It's a shame what happened to him after retirement. I always liked Kirby... at least he always seemed like a pleasant guy.

I think it also just depends on where and how bad it is, my mother was hardly fit when she had her stroke, but she made it through. Since someone was looking for more information on strokes here's the American Stroke Association's site. http://www.strokeassociation.org/

I also hope the stroke jokes in General Chat end

Are most of those allegations true? Does anyone know? Some of them are fucked up, like choking a bitch with an electrical cord, or putting a gun to his wife's head while she held their baby.

Anyways, this definitely came as a shock to me, I couldn't believe it when I saw the headline. RIP Kirby.

Unless you were his ex-wife.

And I read he was pushing four bills at the time of his death, so that is most likely what caused the death. I heard on ESPN News that he was looking to get his weight under control soon since he was supposed to be getting married in two months.

Being from the Dakotas, Puckett was a favorite on the playground. I remember we would always pretend to be Puckett and try to rob home runs.

There's some speculation that it was a brain aneurysm that killed Puckett. And that Puckett was essentially dead when he hit the ground. They kept him on life support so his family could be by his side.

It should be noted he had family members died at very young age. Two brothers around 50. His father and at least two uncles died in their 50's. Even him mother was only in her early 60's.
