The Hills Have Eyes

Actually the trailer isn't clear at all. The only standout things are "mister will you play with us" and "where's mom?".

Lets see in the beginning they showed the newspaper, which tells you nothing about what will happen later, one can only speculate. A very boring 15 minutes where not much happens in the gas station. Some old somewhat creepy guy not doing much and a family coming by and they talk and talk and talk but with NO storyline why should you care what they have to say? It was very dull and the movie finally picked up when the action started.

The beginning of the movie before the vehicle accident had no story so I couldn't focus entirely on it. Just like many movies (Serenity I'm pointing to you), this movie had storytelling issues.

What the fuck......have you never heard of pacing? I mean, Ripper specifically talked about the film's pacing earlier on in this thread. Look, I've seen an ungodly amount of horror films in my time, and I'm down for a full frenzied gorefest from beginning to end sometimes, but sometimes, you need to BUILD to the horror. Have you ever seen "Psycho"? If you haven't, please DON'T. It's considered one of the greatest horror films of all time, but if you couldn't take the pacing on this modest remake, then you'd really hate that classic.

I was high as a kite after smoking a blunt before the movie, had not even seen the original before this (saw it directly afterwards) and yet I still got it and understood things in its' entirety.

Maybe stoned it would be okay, mellow you out, but I don't think I could have watched this film on something hallucinogenic. Something tells me that a movie about cannibalistic mutants wouldn't do good things for my trip.

BTW, this film had some fucked up shit in it, but for me, the worst thing - gotta say the finger amputation. But that's my thing. Injuries to the fingers or the teeth, those actually do legitimately freak me out a bit.

And a 5 minute video montage of NUCLEAR MUSHROOM CLOUDS mixed with clips GENETIC MUTATIONS. How "one can only speculate" after that is laughable. There was nothing subtle about what they were showing.

You fucking moron, because that's what the beginning of a movie is supposed to do? Tell you every little twist and turn of what will happen during the entire course of the movie?

You have no sense.

Stop watching movies. Now.

For everyone's sake.

The very beginning of what you are talking about is SO boring though. If it was entertaining I might have had a clue of what the movie was about but it wasn't because I don't pay attention when something is SO boring. When all I knew about this movie was it was a horror movie and it was supposed to be pretty good and I go in and it starts going on and on about "nuclear" stuff, I don't care and don't pay attention. Thankfully the movie picked up when the action started, as I stated in a prior post and overall this was a 2 star movie, as overall it wasn't that terrible but the beginning was as I mentioned. I think some filmmakers should actually WATCH their movie before they put it out because the structure/storytelling of so many movies is bad and thus there are plenty of "dull scenes" that turn you off.

I saw this tonight, and I was fucking entertained big time. I liked it a hell of a lot better than Devil's Rejects and most other movies of this type that have been released lately. I wouldn't even mind seeing it again in the theater sometime. I don't understand how any horror fan can't find something about this movie to really get into.

And by the way, and I hardly ever say anything like this, but fanofcoils, you are a fucking moron to the tenth degree if you couldn't understand what the movie was about. Do you have the most extreme case of ADD of all time or are you just seriously a moron? You can't blame a movie because you are so dense that you can't follow the most obvious of plots. You should stop watching movies of any sort right now, and register yourself officially as a fucktard. You sir, are a bloody twat.

Good day.

As I said the intro was boring so I didn't pay attention, I rather "day dream" about other things. I don't pay attention to things I don't care about period. The intro didn't tell me an interesting enough story as I mentioned. I think if I wanted to pay attention to the dull beginning I could have easily but I didn't want to because as I said I don't like boring things. The movie finally picked up and I understood what was going on throughout the rest.

"So, I saw the Wizard of Oz the other day. Why was that Dorothy chick so bent on going to Kansas. The movie sucked, they didn't tell us why she'd want to go there. Maybe there was a hint about it in the beginning, but since it wasn't interesting to me I just didn't pay attention until the movie switched to color."

-nl5, doing his fanofcoils impersonation.

fanofcoils, a little hint for future movies: you might want to pay attention while watching the movie. Sometimes, just sometimes, the stuff that they're showing MIGHT have something to do with the movie as a whole. Or if you're not willing/able to pay attention throughout, you might want to keep your laughably ignorant 'reviews' to yourself.

Seriously. Reading what you write is like listening to Uwe Boll speak. It's uncanny.

Overall I think that it may be technically better done than Devil's Rejects and had a better, more coherent story than TDR, which in a sense makes it a better film. But TDR did have far better characters (almost to a fault, you almost grew to CARE for the Fireflys, which is a negative IMO seeing how beyond reprehensible they all were), and TDR has one of the best ending sequences of any horror film I've seen in many, many YEARS. It's one of the better film endings I've seen in some time.

I want to be entertained if a movie doesn't entertain me sometimes I continue watching it and sometimes I just turn off the movie or walk out of the theater. I generally don't "pay attention" during the boring parts, sorry.

Then do us a favor: don't ever come on here and bitch about how you don't understand the plot or didn't get certain details of a film, because those "boring" parts of films? Those are usually the times when the filmmakers are advancing the plot or explaining things. It can't always be things exploding or car chases every fucking minute.

I think instead of saying "I didn't understand this part of the movie because.." I will just say that part is boring and perhaps explain why. It doesn't have to be action to be entertaining, just ANYTHING that isn't boring (drama usually works), funny comedy works, entertaining adventure/suspense works, etc, but not boring stuff that tries to advance the plot/explain things. Nothing wrong with something that advances the plot/or trying to explain things as long as it isn't boring.

Aw, guys, quit picking on him, it's like challenging Zac Gowen to a 100-yard dash. Try to educate the little fella instead of just mocking him.

I'm liking this fanofcoils. Keep up the good work.

I wonder if he watched a movie like "Pulp Fiction" or "Memento" if he'd get bored by beginning of the film in regards to what scene the movie starts with or get bored by the beginning of the film in regards to the plot's chronological start?

EDIT: Oh, I haven't seen The Hills Have Eyes -- it'll be a DVD'er.

Dude, this gimmick you're doing, the one where you're a fucking idiot, it's pretty good. I mean, you're doing it well. So congrats.

Otherwise, shut the fuck up. If you don't think it looks interesting, don't fucking see it at all. Don't just go into a theater and ignore the film. That is honestly one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.

Explain or else I can't say anything other than "no I'm not an idiot".

I said before in this thread more or less "It was a horror movie and I heard it was pretty good so I wanted to see it". I guess I thought it looked interesting. ;)

I ignore the boring parts of a film if there are any, I don't automatically ignore the entire film. Did you miss this point? :bonk: I like watching movies, if there is a boring scene I usually tune out and think of something else until there is a scene that isn't boring and I usually watch the rest of the film.

In "The Hills Have Eyes", the intro and the beginning (the first 15 minutes of the movie) were boring so I didn't pay much attention, then the movie finally picked up and was overall OK for the rest of the movie.

Rashomon was completely boring and dragged on and on (the longest 60 or 70 minute movie I have ever seen). Seven Samurai on the other hand I thought was 3 stars throughout the bulk of the movie but I thought the ending had a lot of charisma so probably 3.5 stars. Yojimbo put me to sleep after 5 minutes so I stopped watching it. I enjoyed the LOTR triology despite being a total of about 10 hours, there were few boring scenes, and the movies were great.

I also would like to say that Once Upon a Time in the West is nearly the dullest movie I have ever seen, that movie is VERY boring, however the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly is amazing, it has a total of 2 boring scenes and it was a fantastic movie, probably 4 stars.

What is with the periods at the end of each word? That movie did suck, it was SO slow and I decided the movie wasn't going anywhere so I turned it off. I'm not the only one who "walks out of movies" or turns off movies they don't like.

This is amazing.

If I could interject into this conversation...

Why don't you try watching the Godfather...which begins with a 3 minute converstion...so...that must be rubbish....

Only perhaps the finest work of all time...but...you know...

Or maybe (to stick with Brando) On the Waterfront. At it's heart a biting political testimony...but...to you...a borish talky...

How about one of my personal favorites....Ed Wood...

Black and White???

Screw that....if they can't do color why bother to care?

The 5 second preview didn't make you think about "nuclear mutants" it made you think of a horror movie + the quotes of "where's mom?" and "mister will you play with us?"

The beginning of the movie was boring and later in the movie it never effectively told you the "monsters" outside were mutants, it just talked about a nuclear disaster so you could assume they turned into mutants, but sorry I forgot mutants can form after a nuclear disaster (if that is the case). I just called the creatures in the desert "monsters".
