Dangerous A Posted March 30, 2006 Report Posted March 30, 2006 Credit PWTorch... Kurt Angle spoke with a group of print and radio reporters. Q. You’ve had some injuries in your career, even before you got to WWE with your neck. Why do you still keep going? Why do you do it? A. "One is I get a lot of self satisfaction out of going out there and performing in front of the fans. Something that was missing for three years after the Olympics. I wasn’t finished being an athlete when I retired at the young age of 26 as an amateur wrestler. But due to my neck injury, I didn’t think I was going to be able to do anything else, having a broken neck in 1996. So I let it heal for three years and not telling Vince McMahon I had chronic neck problems, joined the WWE and found myself in the same position here. Throughout my career, I never told Vince until one day I couldn’t lift my arm and that’s the time I let the cat out of the bag. It was about four years later. I’ve had reoccurring next injuries. I actually have one right now. I have a broken neck, levels C7, T1, but I continue to wrestle. Because I love it. Because of the fans. Is it worth my health? No, but I’m addicted to wrestling. I’ve done it my whole life. 27 years, including amateur wrestling. So I’ll continue to wrestle as long as I can. I hate to say it, but you see some of these old timers that can barely walk. God forbid, but I picture myself being like that some day, because I refuse to quit. Vince McMahon is literally going to have to fire me in order for me to stop wrestling. Is about the money? No, it’s about the money. I really love to go out there and perform for the fans and put on the best matches. I do it most of the time if not all of the time. Shawn Michaels calls himself the show stealer. I agree with him. But I’m right up there with him." Q. Can you explain the psychology that goes into planning a one-on-one match as opposed to a triple threat match like you’ll have Sunday? A. "One-on-one, the psychology is simple. You’ve got one against the other and you find a way of telling a story in that match. Triple threat, there really isn’t much psychology, because you can’t really tell a story with the three guys. It’s more of an exciting, acrobatic wrestling match. It’s not a storytelling match so much as it is more action-packed. Instead of watching a drama, you’re watching an action movie. No better than Randy Orton and Rey Mysterio. It’s like a dream come through for me. Having an athlete like Rey Mysterio in that match with me just enhances my match. I’m just looking forward to keeping the title and moving on to my next opponent. This is the moment where I can still and make history at Wrestlemania as having one of the greatest matches of all time. I plan on doing that and I will." Q. Are you guys going on last Sunday or is Hunter and Cena going last? A. "There is no decision yet, but I’d imagine being a singles match they will probably go on last. But it doesn’t matter to me. They’re both great main events. They won’t have a better match than we will, but being a one-on-one, it’s more of a focus on that story. It’s really much harder to tell the story in a triple threat match even on TV week after week. Because you have Kurt Angle going after Rey but Rey’s going after Randy and Randy’s going after me. Then I’m going after Randy and Randy’s going after Rey. Those two BUTT heads. So there’s more of a deeper story there." Q. What about Wrestlemania brings all these people here? A. "They know that the athletes, the performers are going to go above and beyond what they normally do. Not only do they put their bodies on the line, they also put their health on the line. They put their lives on the line. They call them Wrestlemania moments because we do things we normally don’t do and probably shouldn’t do. We kind of stick our necks out. Sometimes we stick ‘em out too far. But that’s because the fans come to see you. The company breaks records with PPV sales and that’s why the athletes do what they do. It’s the biggest event of all time and every year it gets bigger. So we do bigger things. The bigger it gets, the bigger we become, the bigger things we do. And god forbid we get hurt." Q. Do you feel a need to one-up at Wrestlemania each year? A. "It’s going to be hard one-up my Shawn Michaels match. With Rey Mysterio and Randy Orton, two of the youngest, most talented wrestlers in our company, me being the old man of the group, it’ll be really good. We all have great chemistry. Rey and I have had some classic matches. Randy Orton and I still have matches to come, but we’re all looking forward to it. You look at the triple threat match a few years ago with Benoit and Triple H and HBK, and you’re going to get that type of match. Probably a little more action with Rey being in it. It’s more of an advantage having a Lucha Libre like Rey going out there and performing. I’m going to get to throw him around. It’ll be fun." Q. Any favorite memories of Chicago? A. "I like going on the Mancow show. He’s hilarious. The food, the restaurants are great here. My favorite moments have always come in the ring. I had a match with Chris Benoit that was incredibly good." Q. How special will it be when Eddie Guerrero is inducted into the Hall of Fame? A. "I love Eddie Guerrero just like any other wrestler does. I think it’ll be the first time anyone’s been inducted the (year they stopped wrestling). It shows what kind of athlete and wrestler he was. Eddie Guerrero not only understood wrestling from a psychological standpoint and from an athletic standpoint. He understood it as an owner, an agent. He was like a father to all the wrestlers. From having the history, the family, he had a sense of how to make his character make money. In my mind, Eddie Guerrero, the best entertainer across the board."
Vampiro69 Posted March 30, 2006 Report Posted March 30, 2006 Geez, Angle is like a Timex watch. He takes a licking but keeps on ticking.
The Metal Maniac Posted March 30, 2006 Report Posted March 30, 2006 Is about the money? No, it’s about the money.
Guest wildpegasus Posted March 30, 2006 Report Posted March 30, 2006 What Chicago match against Benoit is he talking about?
RavishingRickRudo Posted March 30, 2006 Report Posted March 30, 2006 I wish the WWE Kurt Angle could be as righteously cool, balls out, and badass, as the actual Kurt Angle.
haVoc Posted March 30, 2006 Report Posted March 30, 2006 Q. Are you guys going on last Sunday or is Hunter and Cena going last? A. "There is no decision yet, but I’d imagine being a singles match they will probably go on last. When Benoit won the Rumble his thriple threat went on last over you and Eddie, Kurt. Remember that Sunday when you're told HHH is headlining.
Lt. Al Giardello Posted March 30, 2006 Report Posted March 30, 2006 If HHH gets the actual main event match, I'd seriously turn off the TV then and there.
haVoc Posted March 30, 2006 Report Posted March 30, 2006 Before his match or when the triple threat starts?
BUTT Posted March 30, 2006 Report Posted March 30, 2006 What Chicago match against Benoit is he talking about? I think he means the 30 minute submission match.
Lt. Al Giardello Posted March 30, 2006 Report Posted March 30, 2006 Before his match or when the triple threat starts? Just before HHH makes his entrance. What's the point in even watching it? Everyone and their grandmothers knows the outcome, where as you don't know who is going over in the Triple Threat match.
Hawk 34 Posted March 30, 2006 Report Posted March 30, 2006 Mysterio gets the live music intro, what does Triple H get this time? He stole rey's rising stage last year as well.
RavishingRickRudo Posted March 30, 2006 Report Posted March 30, 2006 Maybe he gets carried out on a throne... by Orton, Benoit, JBL, Angle.
Hunter's Torn Quad Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 Maybe he gets carried out on a throne... by Orton, Benoit, JBL, Angle. He's the King of Kings, so he'll come out carrying a large wooden cross on his back.
BUTT Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 I predict the 3-way goes on last. They'll want to end the show on happy note, i.e. Rey winning the title FOR EDDIE EDDIE EDDIE EDDIE EDDIE EDDIE, plus they know, as much as they want to stop it, that there's a large chance that the crowd will shit all over the Cena-HHH match.
Silence Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 He's the King of Kings, so he'll come out carrying a large wooden cross on his back. Or wear a crown and a cape so he can copy Harley Race even more.
Dangerous A Posted March 31, 2006 Author Report Posted March 31, 2006 Mysterio gets the live music intro, what does Triple H get this time? He stole rey's rising stage last year as well. He gets all the heat and push for WM behind his match instead of Rey's. The SD title match is the coldest WM ME level match since Sid vs Taker in 97. Rey backed in to the match. Orton has garnered no heat except cheap heat at the expense of exploiting Eddie and Angle was neutered since they decided to sacrifice him to heat up the Taker/Henry casket match. WWE has done a tremendous job letting us know that the SD 3 way means shit.
RavishingRickRudo Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 Maybe he gets carried out on a throne... by Orton, Benoit, JBL, Angle. He's the King of Kings, so he'll come out carrying a large wooden cross on his back. Correction, an iron cross

Guest JRE Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 Mania has ended with a "happy" moment every year since X8. I get a bad feeling that Triple H may cite this as reasoning for his victory to close the show.
chaosrage Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 Is about the money? No, it’s about the money. Kurt Angle is all about the bling bling.
Guest tony manero Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 Is about the money? No, it’s about the money. Kurt Angle is all about the bling bling. LOL, I think that was a typo.
EdwardKnoxII Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 Mysterio gets the live music intro, what does Triple H get this time? He stole rey's rising stage last year as well. Hopefully Peter Gabriel will sing Sledgehammer while Trips goes to the ring. You got to it admit that would be great.
The Niggardly King Posted April 1, 2006 Report Posted April 1, 2006 I hate to say it, but you see some of these old timers that can barely walk. He's the King of Kings, so he'll come out carrying a large wooden cross on his back. Correction, an iron cross Rudo, I love ya, but please, after last night, for the sake of humanity, never ever post again.
