Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted April 22, 2006 Ah, there's that Dusty Baker, flexing that managerial muscle with another double switch, this time bringing in Scott Eyre and shifting out Matt Murton for Freddie Bynum. How does he only have three Manager of the Year awards? I just don't get it. Thank god I turned the TV off. I'm pretty sure something would be broke if I had actually seen this happen. Leave it to the Cubs to buy into this empty hype about speed being what helps win games. The hell with hitting. That move leaves a lineup with: - Pierre - Cedeno - Ramirez - Mabry - Bynum - Perez - Jones - Blanco - Pitcher I'm sure Aramis wants to break his wrist right now. Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted April 22, 2006 I guess even Brenly called into the question the logic behind taking out Walker and Murton before the SIXTH inning was even finished. I'd love to hear his explanation for taking the bat out of the hands of who's been their best hitter.
jwest27 0 Report post Posted April 22, 2006 Sweet, the Cards have a chance to return the favor tomorrow with a sweep of their own. Izzy looked good too, that error aside.

Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted April 22, 2006 I somehow managed to see every part of that inning except for the homers. Watch out for Cincy if they ever get any hint of pitching.
jwest27 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2006 So apparently Bonds finally hit a home run. I learned this from the huge BREAKING NEWS OMG section of the front page of ESPN.com.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted April 23, 2006 ESPN hasn't already interrupted their programming by showing this home run 20 times, having the Baseball Tonight dolts yammer on about it, and a live update from Pedro Gomez???
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2006 So we only have to sit through this sort of crap what, eight or nine more times?

Bored 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2006 http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-r...ov=ap&type=lgns DENVER (AP) -- The Colorado Rockies still don't know for sure what's ailing slugger Todd Helton. They just know they're going to be without him for a while. The Rockies placed their star first baseman on the 15-day disabled list Saturday because of a stomach ailment. The move was made retroactive to April 20. The five-time All-Star was hospitalized with stomach discomfort and a fever on Friday and will remain there until testing and diagnosis are complete, the team said. "With respect to the privacy of himself and his family, I'm not going to make any comment on his condition, other than the fact we believe it's in his best interest to put him on the disabled list," manager Clint Hurdle said. "The doctors acquired all the information they needed." Yikes, that sounds kind of ominous.

Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2006 I can't figure out whether the Twins are annoying to watch because I know but a handful of their players or if they just seem so bland and mediocre against good teams.
naiwf 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2006 Sounds like when Jason Giambi had that parasite in his intestine. That was my thought too, and that would more than likely substantiate the rumors that Helton adamantly denied when someone (I forgot who) accused of him juicing. These Padres camo jerseys are quite possibly the ugliest in all of the pro sports in the United States.

Bored 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2006 Ummm except for the fact that steroid usage would have nothing to do with someone having an intestinal parasite.
naiwf 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2006 Ummm except for the fact that steroid usage would have nothing to do with someone having an intestinal parasite. No one in the NYC media believed he actually had a parasite. Most people assumed it was a cover up to hide his sickness due to getting off of the gas. It's the same thing that happened to Justine Henin-Hardenne who spent the better part of 2 years ailing with an unnamed virus shortly after she stopped juicing up. Guest Felonies! Report post Posted April 23, 2006 Actually I think there was some correlation, though slightly rickety, between roids and parasites, like it weakened the immune system or did something to some enzymes or something in which the person's body becomes more conducive to hosting a parasite than it would without steroids. That said, I actually LIKE the camouflage uniforms. They only wear it once a year.

No one in the NYC media believed he actually had a parasite. Most people assumed it was a cover up to hide his sickness due to getting off of the gas. If it turns out Helton has a pituitary tumor then there could be a similar situation. Maybe Helton just likes giving rim jobs.
naiwf 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2006 So when Babe Ruth missed half of the 1925 with a supposed intestinal absess, it was really steroid withdrawl. No, the Babe was a dirty dude by all accounts and he didn't need steroids since he had that God given fat boy strength. I just find it funny that those rumored to have done steroids are always the ones coming down with withdrawal symptoms, losing 15-30 pounds in a year, lose 5 mph off of their heater, develop warning track power etc. Helton might have a bad appendix for all I know, but after Palmeiro went in front of Congress and said he didn't ever take anyting, I don't trust Helton's word as being law. Back to back solo jacks by Nady and Castro of all people.
devo 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2006 Castro and Nady with back-to-back homers. 2-0 Mets. Nady just crushed the ball, about 420 feet or so.

Besides, even if Helton did take steroids, I doubt he's fully aware of what's causing him problems, any more than the doctors know. As far as the Mets and Bonds go, it's nice to see someone playing baseball. The entire northeast is rained out tonight.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2006 Something I haven't seen mentioned is Fransico Cordero's ineffectiveness so far. He wasn't up to his 2004 standards last year, but he's been awful in 2006. He just blew a three-run lead against the D-Rays and is sporting an ugly 11.25 ERA. naiwf 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2006 This Young guy is making Steve Trachsel look like a fast worker. 42 pitches, a handful of pickoff attempts/step offs/shoe ties and we're nearly 35 minutes into a game 1 out into the top of the 2nd.
devo 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2006 I wish the SNY announcers would stop telling me to "watch Reyes' fanny". Edit: Also, Keith Hernandez is apparently shocked, shocked, that there's a woman in the Padres' dugout. That coupled with statements like "I'm not saying she belongs in the kitchen, but she shouldn't be in the dugout!" are almost making me wish this game was on ESPN so I could listen to one of their terrible commentating teams instead. CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2006 I'm watching the highlights of the Giants/Rockies game...did they really need to include ALL of Bonds' at-bats? Did a 6-4 game really turn on a routine grounder to short?

naiwf 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2006 12 pitch at bat between Young & Wright ends in a walk. Young's thrown about 100 pitches to get through 4+, that was brutal. Delgado just CRUSHED another one (#8) beyond that "402" sign. It's nice having some left handed pop in the middle of that lineup.
