RedJed Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 That would be much more creative than the actual ending of the crap known as Prom Night. The ending is about as predictable and cliche as you can get.....hell, the whole movie is, in fact, cliche to the max. Biggest waste of $5 I've spent on a movie in years. But I'm sure the teenage girls loved it.
Ripper Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 It was a slasher flick. Of course it was predictible and cliche.
RedJed Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 It was a slasher flick. Of course it was predictible and cliche. The predicableness and cliche BS was beyond any typical slasher flick though, and, on that note, calling this a slasher flick is really being generous. Most of the film is horrible teen dramatics more than anything. It isn't scary, nor is it even horror. There was zero empathy for any of the teenagers and I've seen better character development in porn. The story was so loose, as well, that it just didn't make me suspend disbelief at any point. And the kills in this one are just ridiculously lame on top of it. Not sure how you can apparently stab someone with a knife a few times, not have any blood on such knife, and then when the shot is panned to show the person killed, they aren't even bleeding. WHAT?!! This was, in a nutshell, what the Prom Night remake was. And actually, I don't even get why this is considered a remake. The story is way different than the original, and there is no real "nod" to the original film at all, etc. That was really the only reason I went to see it, to see how they would remake a movie that I always enjoyed when I was young, and they really didn't even do it. 11 percent at Rotten Tomatoes, nuff said.
Ripper Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 OH, wait. You are talking about the remake. From your first post, I thought you meant the original, which was pretty predictable and cliche, but was awesome. You were talking about the obviously crappy remake.
King Kamala Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 Slightly off-topic, but why does Idris Elba only get major roles in really shitty movies? Stringer's got to get a new agent.
Gary Floyd Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 Whatever happened with that Last House on the Left remake? Did I imagine that? It's still a go unfortunately. Anyways, I recommend "Inside." Damn, what a fucked up horror flick.
Nighthawk Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 I don't hate the remakes like you do, you characterless pansy son of a bitch. Not really... But some of them are ok. I thought the Hills Have Eyes one was a riot.
MarvinisaLunatic Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 Im pissed I didnt know that MGM-HD was showing the Sleepaway Camp Trilogy tonight as part of its "Death AND.." marathon. watching the 3rd one now, but its lame cause of the hard R rating gore edits though theres enough nudity to float a couple boats to China and back. I mean, Lilly gets her head lawnmowered and theres not an ounce of blood. BAH! The girl at the beginning's milk shake tattoo (this was 1988..) had me laughing.
Lil' Bitch Posted April 19, 2008 Report Posted April 19, 2008 The only thing good thing about Prom Night 2008 was the guy who played Johnny Cage in the Mortal Kombat movie is in it and that the movie is completely different from the original version.
King Kamala Posted April 19, 2008 Report Posted April 19, 2008 IIRC, Prom Night 2008 isn't even supposed to be a remake of the original. Just a vaguely similar movie with the same title. I could be completely wrong though.
Nighthawk Posted April 19, 2008 Report Posted April 19, 2008 It is a fairly straightforward concept. Bunch of teens get killed on prom night... I could think of a dozen movies with that premise.
DMann2003 Posted April 20, 2008 Report Posted April 20, 2008 A Hollywood video nearby is going out of business, so they're liquidating their entire stock. All catalog titles were priced 9.99 then discounted further 50-60%. So for around 75 dollars I picked up the following- The Life of Python Lost in La Mancha Z Channel- A Magnificent Obsession Bridge on the River Kwai (2 disc) The King of Kong The Brother From Another Planet The Duellists And the following Criterion Collection titles- Beauty and the Beast (2003 remastered version) The Passion of Joan of Arc Short Cuts Rififi Hiroshima, Mon Amour The Blob The Life Death of Colonel Blimp Richard III An Angel at My Table Sisters Again, 17 DVD's for 75 DOLLARS!
Nighthawk Posted April 21, 2008 Report Posted April 21, 2008 Going out of business sales for video stores are awesome. Blockbuster and Hollywood are bad enough, and now with netflix as the final nail... I mourn the loss of mom and pop video stores. You could sometimes get wild shit there, like bootlegs and what not. My memory of this is Video View in backwoods Florida... first time I ever saw Debbie Does Dallas, it was from there. I still have the vhs copy of it I made. They had the banned Supergirl porn. They had every obscure slasher movie you could imagine. And (you guys will appreciate this) a quarter op machine with outdated hologram WWF stickers. I cleaned them out... Doink, Yokozuna, Diesel, Razor, the works... this was in like 98/99. When they went out of business, I didn't hear about it until they'd been pretty well picked over. All I got was Faces of Death 4 and Jason Goes to Hell. What sucks is I missed this tape they had called Faces of Torture, which for years I couldn't even find referenced on the internet (I've tracked it down now), the most shoddy, mind numbing student filmesque shock movie ever. Which, when you watch it on drugs and then never see it referenced again, became like the Ringu tape for me. Yeah, I get wistful for shit like that.
Ripper Posted April 21, 2008 Report Posted April 21, 2008 I have finally watched Born into Brothels: Calcutta's Red Light Kids. Its a really good documentary.
Ripper Posted April 21, 2008 Report Posted April 21, 2008 Its also amazing how strikingly beautiful some of these little girls too. Maybe more disturbing than amazing...
Gary Floyd Posted April 22, 2008 Report Posted April 22, 2008 The next remake that will be PG-13 is "Hell Night." Shit like this makes it hard to be a horror fan.
Nighthawk Posted April 22, 2008 Report Posted April 22, 2008 Without being a dick about it this time, I don't understand your attitude. Yeah, there's lots of crap and always will be, but that's true of... anything, really. You just gotta roll with it and seek out the good. It's the same concept as people who say it's hard to be a rap fan cause of mainstream rap.
Ripper Posted April 22, 2008 Report Posted April 22, 2008 I get pissed when they remake slashers into PG13 crap because now they can't remake the slasher into a slasher. Just imagine if someone else got their hands on Dawn of the Dead. The Zombies would have beat people up to death. And everyone would have lived in the end.
Gary Floyd Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 I get pissed when they remake slashers into PG13 crap because now they can't remake the slasher into a slasher. Just imagine if someone else got their hands on Dawn of the Dead. The Zombies would have beat people up to death. And everyone would have lived in the end. Yeah, that's what I'm trying to say. It's all just so...safe. It's not horror to me, it's just generic and dull.
Nighthawk Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 Well, nobody's telling you to like those movies. I hate those movies. This doesn't affect my being a horror fan in general, though.
luke-o Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 When Michael Bay remakes Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th, I will just view them as a pointless endevour. It won't tarnish my views on my favourite horror franchises.

Gary Floyd Posted April 25, 2008 Report Posted April 25, 2008 Venture Bros. Season 3 Promo-This season, they promise to put out. Featuring Henry Killinger (Think Henry Kissinger meets Mary Poppins), Hunter Gatherer (Hunter S. Thompson meets Nick Fury), and the best parody of G.I. Joe I've ever seen.
Gary Floyd Posted April 25, 2008 Report Posted April 25, 2008 "The Nozzle" may become this season's "Ignore Me!"
Nighthawk Posted April 26, 2008 Report Posted April 26, 2008 Man, Venture Bros. may, with a little more time, be my favorite show ever... ever. It's them, Mr. Show or MST3K.
