TWIB #4: now to the end of the month

Recommended Posts

Well, it was a good streak while it lasted, but Roy Oswalt is now 15-1 against the Reds. Now, Randy Johnson is the only active pitcher with the best undefeated record against a team, 12-0 against the Cubs. He's likely to not pitch against the Cubs anytime soon, barring a Yanks-Cubs World Series, so I'll stand by my original statement that Randy Johnson is not likely to pitch against the Cubs anytime soon.

Mussina is 37? I thought he was in his early 30s.

Nooooooo. He was Baltimore's ace back in the early 90s.

I still remember the uproar he caused when he went to warm up on his own at the '93 All-Star Game in Baltimore, when Cito Gaston had no intention of putting him in the game. Cito was hated in Baltimore for the rest of his managing career.

They actually sold "Cito Sucks" shirts at Camden Yards for a while. Pathetic.

Agreed on Jaret Wright. Even though he wasn't terrible tonight, he's been terrible for his stay in NY. Pavano too. If Mussina IS cut next year...it's gonna be bad.

Mets' minor leaguer Yusaku Iriki was suspended 50 games for failing a drug test. For some reason, he was suspended under the Major League program. I saw him pitch live against the Red Barons last week, and the 'roids didn't help.

That's how it seems to go with pitchers.

I swore Kevin Brown was on them and look at him.

From what I heard, Iriki was on the 40-Man Roster, so that's why his case fell under MLB's jurisdiction.

Here's a good lighter side of baseball note. The Fullerton Flyers of the Golden League acquired Nigel Thatch (better known as Budweiser's "Leon") from the Schaumberg Flyers of the Northern League for an entire pallet of budweiser.

Well, the Cardinals lost by 5 runs to the friggin' Nationals.....

But hey, Albert hit another home run. Also, he is now 1 RBI short of tying the club record for April.

Albert is REALLY nasty. I'm no Cards fan, but I hope they can get a little further this time, or it'd be a shame.

I live 5 minutes away from the Schaumburg Flyers' stadium. This is not a surprising trade.

Good match in Cincy today for the lead in the central. Pettite vs. Harang. Even though the reds bad pitching and defense will lead them to be below .500 before the end of the season, their fast start is fun.

Cubs sent the wrong fat pitcher to the minors. I wonder how much longer they can justify having Glendon in the starting rotation. He's just been an absolute disaster. That's not to take anything away from the Brewers' offense, but he doesn't belong in the rotation, even with the injuries.

Its not Randy's day.

Again.

Well, it's 12-6 right now. So I'm not concerned.

The Nationals are hopeless. Izzy made it interesting by walking the bases loaded and surprisingly, Nick Johnson, their best hitters, swings at the first pitch and weakly grounds out to Izzy. Losers.

My heart was pounding during that inning. Izzy likes to make it interesting.

Oh, and Albert hit another one. That's the record for April homeruns...

Rusch has gotta go now. An 8+ ERA isn't gonna cut it after a few more starts.

Fox's quest to ruin baseball marches on. Murdoch & Friends have acquired Turner South, which carries (or Carays, lol, pun) a good chunk of the Atlanta Braves schedule, and moved the Turner South games to FSN South. Not only does this mean more annoying robot beeps, clicks, and scoreboard shit every time there's a single fucking pitch, but they've also brilliantly decided to get rid of the Skip Caray/Pete Van Wieren/et al. rotation in favor of Jeff Torborg and some other guy. Also, TBS games are gonna drop to 45 per year shortly. Way to make the Braves just another team. Somewhere, Ted Turner is pissed.

Chip during the Braves game: "don't worry, I used to work in Chicago, I'm used to taking the blame for everything." OOOHHHHHHHHH. BUUUUUUURRRRRRRN. HARSH.

it's true :(

Another (paraphrased) gem from that broadcast...

"Paul Lo Duca is a MVP caliber player."

Esteban Loaiza tonight: 1+ IP, 4 H, 5 ER, 6 BB against the worst offense in the Majors.

Once again Billy Beane's worst move to date. They are stuck with this sack of shit thru 2008. They had so many better, cheaper options for the #5 starter spot on the 40 man roster and they chose to sink $22 million on him.

The Jermaine Dye contract was worse.

If the Brewers offense could just be consistent...

Or if they could face Glendon Rusch and a string of mop-up men consistently...

And if I'm Alex Gonzalez, no way I'm swinging away at 3-1 with the bases loaded, especially with a wild (aka typical) Roberto Hernandez on the mound.

Which Alex Gonzalez are you? Weak-hitting pennant-blowing Alex Gonzalez or overpaid worse-than-Renteria-but-Boston-fans-are-fickle Alex Gonzalez?
