Mole 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2006 3) Nirvana – Smells Like Teen Spirit I'm sick of how much people blow this song. It isn't THAT good.
The Amazing Rando 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2006 I enjoy that Redemption Song, In The Ghetto, and Shipbuilding all made the list.
Red Baron 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2006 15) Tupac ft Snoop – California Love Don't they mean Tupac ft Dr. Dre. Really unusual list though.
Hawk 34 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2006 Nirvana-Smells like teen spirit always lands @ #3 for pretty much any list. This is pretty weird, putting The Smiths @ #2 isn't very VH1 like.
vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2006 That's a rather...odd list. It's good to see The Smiths, The Kinks, Joy Division, and such, but...The Arctic Monkeys? Didn't that CD come out like...last week? And how the Hell did Coldplay get on the list? As far as arbitrary lists go, this one is...odd. And any song that has the lyric, "I love you like a fat kid loves cake." deserves to be in the top 5.
The Metal Maniac 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2006 Since we're already sorta on the topic, who wants to tell me what the lyrics for Teen Spirit mean? I've never quite understood that song.
vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2006 Like a bunch of Nirvana songs, I don't think it really has a lyrical meaning. It's more just series of phrases and lyrics, some clever, that put out a certain mood, that mood being the ever-popular "angst". Kurt Cobain said that the lyrics didn't have any meaning, that he was just trying to "rip off the Pixies".
The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2006 2) The Smiths – How Soon Is Now I wonder how many people voted for this as "the theme song from Charmed." And yeah, the list is idiotic and truly bizarre, but it's VH1. If my brain were poisoned by a constant flood of Flavor Flav and Celebrity Fit Club, I'd probably forget that John Lennon and Tom Waits existed too.
Masked Man of Mystery 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2006 Much as I enjoyed that song, there is no way "I Predict a Riot" is better than "God Only Knows." The list is plain out bizzare, but I'm happy to see Redemption Song get some love
Guest Felonies! Report post Posted April 24, 2006 31) Arctic Monkeys – I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor 68) The Beatles – Eleanor Rigby I can do this all day, but I'm not gonna. "One" is a pretty weak track on that album. Feels slapped on there. I don't think much of it, and never understood why it became so popular. If you need to put a Bono lyric at the top, go with one of the Joshua Three, not freakin' "One." Geez.
Sideburnious 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2006 I'm pretty sure its Vh1 UK, which would explain alot. Also, it was probably put to a viewer vote...which would also explain alot.
Carnival 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2006 No Scrubs, lol.
The Decemberists 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2006 Morrissey mentioned this at his gig in Salford last week, saying, I did see today in the newspapers that in a lyrical competition that, erm, Bono had beaten me. And, he's very nice, but really...? Not that How Soon Is Now? is anywhere near the best lyric he's written anyway, but that's what happens when you let people vote. When will people learn democracy doesn't work!
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2006 Needs more Bobby Zimmerman.
nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2006 Needs less "Get Ur Freak On".
AboveAverage484 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2006 "There Is a Light That Never Goes Out" is Morrissey's best written song, IMO. And I can name about 20 Springsteen songs that should have been on there in place of BITUSA.
Epic Reine 0 Report post Posted April 25, 2006 And of course, they have to put the WORST Police song on there.
Annabelle 0 Report post Posted April 25, 2006 And of course, they have to put the WORST Police song on there. you're not cool, hip, or cutting edge. don't be a tool & say something so silly.
Epic Reine 0 Report post Posted April 25, 2006 I'm not a fan of that song. Next To You, Message In A Bottle, or King Of Pain should have made that list.
Annabelle 0 Report post Posted April 25, 2006 I'm not a fan of that song. Next To You, Message In A Bottle, or King Of Pain should have made that list. its hardly their worst song. which is what you said. for whatever reason.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted April 25, 2006 I like One a lot, but it's not even the best song on Achtung Baby. I prefer Love is Blindness or Acrobat
Guest Felonies! Report post Posted April 25, 2006 "Acrobat" is freakin' awesome. I maintain that "One" doesn't deserve its anthem status.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted April 25, 2006 Yea, Acrobat is awesome. They've never played it live though. One got its anthem status because it means so many things to so many people. People just relate it to it so well, no matter what meaning they get out of it. But I agree, U2's done a lot better.
Ravenbomb 0 Report post Posted April 25, 2006 "Father and Son" should be higher and "I Don't Like Mondays" should be on the list
Guest Deputy Marshall Report post Posted April 25, 2006 I like One a lot, but it's not even the best song on Achtung Baby. I prefer Love is Blindness or Acrobat Well technically, it's not a list of the best songs, but the best lyrics in a song. Irregardless...yeah. Doesn't belong at #1. And I continue to be confounded by the UK's obsession with The Arctic Monkeys.
Guest Felonies! Report post Posted April 25, 2006 IRREGARDLESS ISN'T A WORD. The ir- is redundant. Just looking out for you. You'll get worse if you say it out loud to the wrong person. I don't get the Arctic Monkeys thing either. It's that same NME hype machine that professes how brilliant the Strokes are.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted April 25, 2006 Glad to see "Fairytale of New York" make the list. "You scumbag you maggot, ya cheap lousy faggot. Happy Christmas yer arse I pray God it's our last."
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted April 25, 2006 Seriously Czech, what kind of weirdo would flip out on someone for saying 'irregardless'? Wouldnt that be a reduntant waste of time?
