The 2006 NFL Draft Thread

Recommended Posts

Ohio State had a great offense, but they didn't uncover it until the Fiesta Bowl. If they had that kind of offense all year, they would have been in the National Title game.

That's more of what I was trying to say. They also didn't have lots of their offensive skill players enter the draft, which is great for them.

San Diego takes Charlie Whitehurst, QB out of Clemson. Interesting.

Why on earth would San Diego pick a quarterback here?

My guess is that they aren't all that confident in Rivers. I think Rivers has had some durability concerns as well.

I like the Clint Ingram pick for the Jags.

San Diego did have to draft a QB, but probably not this soon. Maybe they'll do the same thing with Rivers that they did with Brees.

The Chiefs have picked up Brodie Croyle.

Not bad considering that Trent Green is getting older and Croyle only cost them a mid-3rd pick.

The Jets keep trading down. What was the trade though? The first one worked out because they still got Clemens, and a 2nd round pick next year.

The Jets got the 76th and the 220th in exchange for the 71st.

Not a bad move considering the Eagles took some complete unknown. I wanted Stovall, I wish Todd Pinkston would just go away so I'd never have to watch him run away from contact or say how he "lost focus" again.

Apparently they are going to play Gocong at the SAM. So if he is helping to get rid of the bow tie wonder than it is a positive. There are so many receivers still out there they can afford to wait until tomorrow.

The more I read about Gocong the more I like him, seeing as he's one of those DE/OLB tweeners that's in style now and he dominated the I-AA competition(17.5 sacks in 2004, 23 sacks in 2005). He could end up being the I-AA pick to the Eagles' defense that Brian Westbrook was to the offense.

Also Reid mentioned in his PC that the Patriots were trying to move up to get him as well. If Belichick wanted him that badly, then he must be someone that can be a decent player.

It's too bad the Bills lost Winfield... they could have had an all-OSU secondary then with Clements, Youbody, and Whitmer. Well, that's 3 corners, but whatever.

The Bills are so bad.

I'll say one thing before I hop into the shower.

Matt Millen better lock his doors and hire massive amounts of security or Lions fans might kill him tonight. How you don't draft Matt Leinart when your top two QBs are Jon Kitna and Josh McCown...wow.

I also predict Arizona will kick themselves for not taking Cutler. Not like there's anything new there.

I could see passing on Leinart as long as they grabbed one of the second tier QBs (Clemens/Croyle/Whitehurst/Jackson). The only one left really is Omar Jacobs and they will have to move up to get him since they don't pick until 141 now.

I love the Eagles first day draft. The only way they can dampen it is to draft another batch of Oline projects like the last couple years. Lines have been addressed go get some skill players now. My ideal second day for them would see them add Garrett Mills, Jeremy Bloom and an early WR (Williams/Nance/Avant etc.). IMO, that would address everything that they need.

Why would you guys want a left handed Joey Harrington? Leinart is not tough enough to play in the NFC Central. He is in the ideal system to compensate for his weaknesses, anywhere else and he would have been as big of a bust as Williams and Young are going to be. I think in a couple of years the Jets will have ended up with the most talented QB in the draft, and the best draft class of 2006 as much as that pains me to say it.

I really like both the Pats' 2nd and 3rd round picks. Jackson FINALLY gives Brady a big body to throw to that doesn't play TE and I'm thinking that, with the David Thomas pick, Daniel Graham may be the odd-man out here because I'm positive Belichick wants to get Ben as much playing time as possible.

Wow...all I can say is...wow.

I sit home, dodging a family obligation to watch the Giants at 25th pick. I turn on the Yankees game for one minute, turn back to ESPN and the Steelers are on the clock. WTF?? So at that point I say "fuck it" head to the parents are ignore said draft.

Then, I look on espn.com and learn that they drafted a DE????? Yeah, I guess you can NEVER have too many of those. Forget that the two starters they have are really the combined best bookends in the league.

Thank god that Moss was still there for them...or I'd be heated. They really should look at their DB problem in the next rounds though. Deloatch isn't going to cut it.

The Cards offensive line is hardly effective. Undoubtedly, the worst run blocking line in the league, and they gave up 45 sacks last year. I know there's Edge/Fitz/Boldin, but Leinart will still get hit a bunch.

Plus, the Cards should keep Warner in there. When he plays, he's still effective. Another reason I don't like the Leinart pick, because he's the "most NFL ready" QB chosen. May as well take a 1-2 year project type.

I was talking about next year basically, even though Leinart will definitely get some P.T. when Warner gets hurt. Young, Cutler and Clemens likely won't play at all. By next year, the Cards will know to draft/sign offensive line help and that should guarantee him more success than the other QBs in this year's draft, at least in the short term.

The annoying thing was that they traded down to get extra picks, but lost those picks when they realized they fucked up and had to trade back up to get Moss.

Yeah...not sure what they were thinking about. If they wanted a WR, I figured they'd grab Holmes. Moss will be good in the slot. Better than what they have anyway.

So...what's up with the Titans QB situation. They have Young, but are they gonna keep McNair?? Or bring in someone else?

Any thoughts on Marcus Vick?? I hope he is undrafted.

The apparent feeling is mutual. I'd just as soon start Volek while Young matures. People forget that Volek was brilliant during McNair's injury in 2004, with TWO 400+ yard games and a 5 TD game in one of those. Last year, in his only start, Volek threw a TD pass on his first throw.

They should use their 23 million freed up from McNair for more free agents at other positions. They have already acquired Givens, Mawae, Thornton, and Hope. Another Offensive Lineman or LB would help, although they do have nine picks tomorrow.

Yeah, but you have to remember that Volek threw the ball like 50 times a game when he was the starter. When you put up that many attempts, you're bound to get big numbers.

Texans had one of the best drafts I can think of. They grab two defensive players with high potential, they grab a pair of talented offensive linemen late and really seemed focused on finding the players to grow into a great franchise. I'm glad they didn't buy into the "you must draft Reggie" hype.

As for the Texans have "no stars", I think they'll give up on having no stars if they end up with wins. And it doesn't take much to become a star in the NFL, if you start winning then fans take notice and they have guys who could easily become stars.

He definitely will be.

Expect him in the Arena league, or Canada soon. That's if he's not in jail by then.

Thank god. That'll have my Falcolns loving friend shut the fuck up.

"He'll be a good NFL QB." Me: "no...maybe XFL..."
