snuffbox 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2006 So this Saturday is the boxing ppv headlined by Oscar De La Hoya vs. Ricardo Mayorga. Oscar is on the otherside of a legendary career, Mayorga is an entertaining/erratic puncher. Mayorga will be making his first defense of a 154lb belt, a belt that DLH once held for 2 years. The big rumor is that if DLH wins...he could face Mayweather in a SuperFight later this year. Undercard -Two of Golden Boy Promotions' hyped prospects fight each other...Kassim Ouma vs. Marco Antonio Rubio in a ten rounder. Jorge Paez Jr (7-0) vs. Lowell Brownfield (7-0)...4 rounds There might be another match added. Thoughts/predictions? Im taking Oscar by decision. Ouma by late stoppage in a fight-of-the-year candidate. Paez Jr by ko.
naiwf 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2006 Oscar wins another boring fight by decision as he sprints to win as many of the first 7 or 8 rounds as possible before turtling up for the last 4 or 5 and winning by a score something like 116-112, 115-113, 117-111 since there's always a guy there to guarantee DLH doesn't lose a clear cut decision. Mayorga needs a KO if he wants to have any chance of winning the fight. I don't know enough about the other two fights to make any kind of predictions. Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2006 Oscar by TKO11... Mayorga has one of the most strongest chins, but De La Hoya is going to beat Mayorga in his body, and will eventually stop him. I think Mayorga really has De La Hoya focused. Ouma is gonna win, because he is da man!
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2006 I dont think DLH-Mayorga will be boring.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2006 I don't think I've ever seen a boring Mayorga fight. Mayroga will make it entertaining, he's one crazy motherfucker, but De La Hoya is just too skilled for him. In a street fight, Mayorga would fuck up most boxers. naiwf 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2006 I dont think DLH-Mayorga will be boring. DLH will jab, jab, jab Mayorga to death as Mayorga tries to line him up for bombs. The only way the fight is exciting is if Mayorga lands some desperation flurries in the late rounds and Oscar foolishly tries to trade with him as he's done in a few fights, or drops DLH for good with one shot. Oscar will employ his usual boring tactics of trying to execute the 116-112 UD.

Just watch the Fernando Vargas fight. Early in the fight De La Hoya allowed Vargas to flurry and land good shots, just to tire him out and knock him out in the late rounds. Oscar has a really strong chin and can take punch, just watch the Mosley fights.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted May 3, 2006 I havent been bored by a DLH fight since his pride was hurt with the Trinidad debacle. I used to absolutely loathe Oscar, and Im still no fan, but his batles with Shane Mosley, Vargas, and moving up to middleweight definitly earned a lot of respect. If you find DLH boring then I suggest you either actually watch some of his fights...or just dont bother with boxing.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted May 4, 2006 Ricardo Mayorga threatened to pull out of Saturday's fight with Oscar De La Hoya unless he is paid $8 million dollars. Although Mayorga signed for $2 million "to lure Oscar into taking the fight," he stated "if I don't get my money, I'm not going to fight. I'm going to make what I deserve....I don't want it to be like the Trinidad fight where Trinidad got all the money." He stated that he was promised eight million and wants to be paid like a champion. Mayorga's promoter Don King said, this is the first he's heard of eight million dollar figure. Mayorga said he would announce later today whether he is fighting or not, "but I'm not fighting unless I get my eight million." -fightnews.com
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2006 WBC super welterweight champion Ricardo "El Matador" Mayorga confirmed today that he will step into the ring against "The Golden Boy" Oscar De La Hoya to defend his title at the MGM Grand Garden Arena and on HBO Pay-Per-View on Saturday night. Mayorga sent word to members of the media asking them to join him at his 3 p.m workout at the Las Vegas Boxing Club, just off the Las Vegas Strip, to make his announcement. "I have decided to fight," Mayorga said. "I'm a man and I will defend my World Boxing Council super welterweight title against Oscar De La Hoya on Saturday night." The Nicaraguan bomber added emphatically: "Look out. I'm going to knock Oscar out in less than six rounds." Mayorga's promoter, Don King, was very happy to hear Mayorga's comments. "I commend Ricardo Mayorga for doing the right thing," King said. "That's what I told him to do all along. Now he just needs to knock out The Golden Boy and the world will be his oyster." -fightnews.com
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2006 Mayorga is an overrated brawler. He gets the reputation for having a great chin because he does a lot of the "come on and hit me" kind of taunts, but any common fool knows that you can take a punch with twice the force behind it if you see it coming and brace for it. When he is being hit without bracing or being prepared, he drops like anyone else. I am not saying Mayorga sucks or anything, but I definately find him to be overrated. Uh it doesn't matter if you see it coming and brace for it. Anyone with the balls to stand in the middle of the ring, and let Tito Trinidad of all people, who is problay the best power puncher of our era, and take his punches and stand has a great fucking chin. Just look at the fights with Forrest to, he took some big shots from a strong puncher in Forrest. And I also thought Forrest should've gotten the desicion in the 2nd fight,
Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2006 DLH largely dominates Mayorga, dropping him in the 1st round, again in the 6th and finishing him with a TKO moments later. I think Oscar outlanded him about 2-1 throughout the match.
Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2006 Kinda funny that Mayorga wouldn't shut up all the way to the fight, and loses in the 6th round. Curious to see what he says now.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2006 Looks like it's Mayweather Vs. De La Hoya in the fall. I think this is the biggest fight since Tyson Vs. Lewis. And the biggest non heavyweight fight since Trinidad Vs. De La Hoya.
Shooting Star 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2006 I loved everything Mayorga said to DLH I was hoping he'd win....MIRA MIRACONSITO ESTO NO ES UNA PELICULA ESTO ES BOXEO HIJO DE PUTA A MI SE ME RESPETA!!
Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2006 Mayorga is nothing but fob trash, I can't believe some people believe him to be a better representation of latin heritage than someone like DLH. Is a TKO in boxing three KD in one round, or three throughout the fight? Also, doesn't DLH train with Floyd Mayweather's dad as well? It might seem hard to put that fight together when both have the same trainer. DLH said he wanted to fight Mayorga because he needed someone who trash talked a lot to motivate him. He won't exactly get that with PBF. He might be a little old, but if he shows up like anything close to his older form, I think he could hand PBF his first loss. He's got a good twenty lbs on him plus he's a much more skilled puncher than Gatti so he could take advantage of it.
Xavier Cromartie 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2006 It's a TKO when the ref stops the fight. Floyd Mayweather Sr. trains de la Hoya; Roger Mayweather (Mayweather Sr.'s brother) trains Mayweather Jr. Mayweather Sr. used to train Mayweather Jr.
Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2006 Okay, that's different, but was there some sort of falling out between PBF and his dad? I wonder why he'd stop training him.
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2006 You gotta love that DLH takes out another loudmouth that went after his manhood. First Vargas, now Mayorga. De La Hoya doesn't get a lot of respect for his power, but his boxing skills definately allow him to break down his opponents to put them in a position to be KO'd. Yeah him and his dad didn't agree on things, so they fall apart. And Floyd got his uncle to train him. Floyd Sr. has said in various interviews, that it will be hard for him, but he will train Oscar if he fights his son.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2006 HBO Sports reported today that 875,000 pay-per-view buys and $43.8 million in pay-per-view revenue was generated from last Saturday’s super welterweight title fight featuring Oscar De La Hoya and Ricardo Mayorga at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The fight was promoted by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Don King Productions. The MGM Grand Hotel & Casino was the host site. The 875,000 buys consisted of 475,000 buys from cable systems and 400,000 buys from satellite homes throughout the 50 states, Canada and Puerto Rico. The pay-per-view performance of Mayorga vs. De La Hoya is the best performing pay-per-view event since De La Hoya last fought 20 months ago. His September 2004 showdown with middleweight legend Bernard Hopkins produced one million pay-per-view buys and $56 million in revenue. -fightnews.com A DLH-PBF fight would definitly top a million buys. Did you see Collazo get robbed against Hatton, last week? Collazo hit Hatton with some hard shots which resulted in this... Imagine if it was Mayweather instead of Collazo(Who had 12 KO's in 26 wins)? Hatton would've got KO'd. If Hatton was a true champion he would rematched Collazo, because mostly everyone in the boxing community thought Collazo won that fight. De La Hoya would give Floyd a much tougher fighter, because he is bigger and stronger, and is very powerful. I give De La Hoya a VERY big chance to, and I wouldn't be suprised if he won, but I'm still going with my boy Floyd Mayweather.

Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted May 19, 2006 Hatton only won 3 rounds(the 1st round was 10-8, but you could argue it was 10-9 because Collazo came strong after the KD) in the fight IMO. Anyone else find it funny as soon as Hatton leaves UK soil, he gets beat? The american refs wont let Hatton get away with the wrestling he did againest Tszyu. I know if that fight taken place any other place then UK, the outcome would've been much different.

I think the appeal of Ricky Hatton vs Floyd Mayweather is that each of them is undefeated, and they've fought nearly 80 fights combined. When two fighters have undefeated records go into the same fight, it adds that certain extra spice to it. De La Hoya's already been beaten before. For me, once a fighter loses a couple times, he sort of loses his luster even if his skill hasnt changed that much. De La Hoya-Mayweather may draw more PPV buys, but as a boxing fan I prefer watching two undefeated fighters go at it. Seeing De La Hoya lose again doesnt interest me. Seeing Mayweather lose his first pro fight to a guy thats on the downside of his career, would suck as well. So its a no-win situation as a fan for me personally. Who gives a fuck about their records, if Hatton was a really champion he would rematch Collazo, because he deverses it. He got robbed in pratically everyone's mind. Hatton's people made it clear they want no part of Mayweather until 2007. Hatton/Mayweather is too predictable IMO, and it would be an easy win for Floyd. De La Hoya is the toughest fight out there for Mayweather, and yes it's even more tougher then the Margarito fight. This would be the biggest money fight of Floyd's career, againest arguable the greatest non Heavyweight draw of all time.
