Giuseppe Zangara Posted May 5, 2006 Report Posted May 5, 2006 "You'll always be a nobody, Levon. Always."
BUTT Posted May 5, 2006 Report Posted May 5, 2006 Da Band, known officially as Bad Boy's Da Band, is a now-defunct hip-hop group consisting of the winners of season two of the MTV reality show, Making the Band, created by rap mogul P. Diddy. The show's prize included the opportunity to be featured on P. Diddy's label, Bad Boy Records. Members Sara Stokes, a Detroit R&B singer Dylan "The Dillinga" John, a Brooklyn reggae vocalist Rodney "Young City" Hill (formerly known as Chopper), a New Orleans MC Lynese "Babs Bunny" Wiley, Brooklyn MC Lloyd "Ness" Mathis, a Philadelphia MC Frederick "Freddy P" Watson, a Miami MC (alive and well, contrary to rumors) Signed Universal After weeks of selection and training P.Diddy chose the members of the band on the first season of Making The Band 2. For several weeks DA BAND was subject to vigorous tasks, including walking from Midtown Manhattan to Brooklyn to purchase Cheesecake for Puff Daddy, and Elliot Ness' battle with Harlem MC Jae Millz Their debut album, Too Hot for TV, was released in September of 2003. First Single-"Bad Boy This, Bad Boy That" Second and Last single-"Tonight" Da Band was widely criticised as fraudulent and was critised by most hip hop fans, this was not helped by the fact that Sean Combs often embarrassed them throughout the filming of the show. Da Band effectively ended its career at the end of the 3rd season of the show, when P. Diddy dissolved the group during the season finale. However, he still wanted to work with Babs and Ness, calling them hip hop's next "Bonnie and Clyde," though nothing yet has been released from either of them. Diddy also kept Chopper with the label, and he is currently signed with Bad Boy South. A solo album for him (Bad Boy South's first solo-artist release) is planned for August.
DMann2003 Posted May 6, 2006 Report Posted May 6, 2006 Man don't be making jokes at the expense of this group, I've been getting into them fierce the last couple of years, bought 5 of their albums and the box set that came out last year. If anyone seriously wants to learn about the group here is THE site to go to: http://theband.hiof.no/index_2.html Now when did Robbie say that about Levon? Shame Robbie, no wonder he hates your guts now.
vivalaultra Posted May 6, 2006 Report Posted May 6, 2006 I've been told by various relatives that Robbie Robertson is distantly related to me, but I doubt it. My favorite The Band song is "I Shall Be Released", and they made about the best use of the clavinet of any band ever.
Annabelle Posted May 6, 2006 Report Posted May 6, 2006 your favorite band song is a bob dylan song. for shame. best band song? the night they drove old dixie down not even close. the weight is farily fucking amazing, too. heck, their first three albums. near genius on all of them. so gentle. i just imagine five gold rush prospectors playing this magical music with only their oil lamps to give the room a slight glow. five men. no egos. no b.s. just making music without the true intention or pretention of doing anything magical. but making some so magical. music from big pink is essentially the great album ever recorded, outside of blonde on blonde. the boys learned from the best. in what group can you have three of the greatest vocalists ever? jesus. not even the beatles. i dunno if the beatles were even making better albums in 68, 69, 70 than the band. i really dont think so. no one was. after that? garbage. what happened? dont blame drugs. blame robertson.
vivalaultra Posted May 6, 2006 Report Posted May 6, 2006 I just think that "I Shall Be Released" is a good song no matter who did it. I could've been obvious and said "The Weight" or "Cripple Creek". My favorite Hendrix song is a Bob Dylan song. I just think that the work that Dylan and The Band did together was really good. No shamefulness involved.
Guest Felonies! Posted May 6, 2006 Report Posted May 6, 2006 "The Weight," much like "Changes," has been ruined by phone commercials. I can't think of another industry that ruins songs like telecommunications.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted May 6, 2006 Author Report Posted May 6, 2006 Not watching tv has its advantages. And hey, I was in a Starbucks the other day; "The Weight" was playing. This was followed by "I Hope That I Don't Fall in Love with You." Then they pissed it all away with James Blunt or Teddy Geiger or whothefuckever.
Guest Felonies! Posted May 6, 2006 Report Posted May 6, 2006 The Starbucks in my town used to be an Amoco. You can so tell by the architecture. My jazz combo sorta had a gig there, but they piped in their crappy John Mayer stuff at the same time, so what was the point? Starbucks sucks.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted May 6, 2006 Author Report Posted May 6, 2006 I like getting a iced venti five-pump-valencia, one-pump-peppermint passion tea. And you better believe I order it that way, too. Their caramel apple ciders are nice, also, but I don't like coffee.
Guest Felonies! Posted May 6, 2006 Report Posted May 6, 2006 I've always been a tea guy myself. Mostly lemon and mint
Edwin MacPhisto Posted May 6, 2006 Report Posted May 6, 2006 One-pump-peppermint. There's a phrase. I get the absurd iced drinks covered in whipped cream. Real man's man. Oh, and the Band are real good.
Annabelle Posted May 7, 2006 Report Posted May 7, 2006 I like getting a iced venti five-pump-valencia, one-pump-peppermint passion tea. And you better believe I order it that way, too. Their caramel apple ciders are nice, also, but I don't like coffee. i worked at a starbucks for 3 days & quit because of people like you.
Annabelle Posted May 7, 2006 Report Posted May 7, 2006 starbucks is delicious. enjoy your stale coffee at joe's cafe. hippie.
Lord of The Curry Posted May 7, 2006 Report Posted May 7, 2006 Funnily enough I never get coffee when I go to Starbucks, it's always some italian soda or their fruit juices (which are fucking delicious). Banky only lasting 3 days sucks, if he'd made it to a week we probably could have some nice stories to read.
Annabelle Posted May 7, 2006 Report Posted May 7, 2006 my stint at the starbucks was rather uneventful. it consisted of me making toast for fucking knobs i went to high school with. making coffee with soy milk for the uptight anal bitches who WILL storm away if we are out of stock. or people like inc, who intently lean over the counter to ensure that the appropriate squirts are done to their liking. i was unemployed at the time i got the job & quit knowing i'd be unemployed again. it was the most degrading job of my life. it was a time even i wondered how pathetic i'd become. that never happens. it brought out the worst in me. so THE band....you know, stage fright definately doesn't get the recognition it deserves among the hipster classic rock canon. everythign after that almost seems to come from an entirely different band. like the moody blues are something.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted May 7, 2006 Report Posted May 7, 2006 I hate hot beverages, and have never listened to The Band. Terrible name.
Art Sandusky Posted May 7, 2006 Report Posted May 7, 2006 ^^ Seriously. Fuck coffee too. Humans weren't meant to drink hot stuff. Okay, I'll give you hot chocolate, but only when it's just warm chocolate.
DMann2003 Posted May 7, 2006 Report Posted May 7, 2006 Having indulged deeply into the Band's works over the past couple of months, I really love the song Stage Fright, Rick Danko gives such a great vocal performance in it, and I love the storytelling in Arcadian Driftwood. The cover of Don't Do It on Rock of Ages is fantastic, with the horn arrangement, the song just feels ALIVE. Damn I love this group.
