PRIDE Openweight GP

Cro Cop is unofficially out, as there is a rather large contract dispute that PRIDE couldn't settle financially. What it seems to boil down to is PRIDE wants to pay its competitors for one night, whereas Cro Cop wants to be paid for two fights. Why pull out now? Leverage. Cro Cop supposedly has a strong offer from WFA, which has to be in excess of 150,000 (yen) he's been receiving per fight.

There was supposed to be a '?' there after the yen because I wasn't sure from reading everything.

Well, it's official: http://www.vecernji-list.hr/newsroom/sport...604977/index.do

I don't know Croatian so I can't post a translation, but it's on Sherdog a bunch.

Oh well, apparently they only wanted to pay him for one fight? If he lost the final he would get nothing? I don't know how it works but if that is the case I can't say I blame him.

Is Cro-Cops case unique compared to Nog, Wandy and Barnett or is he just choosing to be a bitch on this one?

He's just being a bitch; probably doesn't want to get bitched down by Fedor again.

Bottom line being that somebody isn't making it out of the first 5 minutes of that fight concious. I imagine Wandy will be looking for the kill early with the forsight that Nog/Barnett can easily go the distance.

That or DSE paid out their ass.

The reaction to Cro Cop maybe, possibly not fighting online was odd...It was a strongly anti-Cro Cop which was surprising, with people all over the world accusing him of stabbing PRIDE in the back, and turning his back on the fans. I doubt it was what they were expecting.

MMA fans are all about seeing fighters getting paid, until it adversly affects a match-up they want to see.

lawl

Or until it happens a month before the show, when shit like this should have been worked out by the managers before the tourney even started.

Or when Cro Cop says it's not about the money, only the belt, then when he gets fucked in the ass by Fedor and realizes he'll never sniff it, then it's about the money.

See, I don't give a shit about this tournament. So this is all fucking hilarious to me. Besides, as MMA gets bigger, does anyone honestly expect not to see more of this? It happens in pretty much every sport once the athletes start gaining leverage, and assuming MMA can near some measure of overall success, expect to see fighters giving promoters and/or fans the finger for any number of reasons.

The timing was what got me.

- In the past, Cro Cop has been 100% behind PRIDE, basicly saying he'd fight for them no matter what.

- They go through the Yakuza scandal, and are completely in desperate straits. They need some huge months to get back to shape completely, and that means alot of the fighters are getting paycuts/being let go.

- WFA capitalizes and sends Cro Cop an offer to fight for them for reportedly as much if not more then PRIDE gives him.

- NOW Cro Cop wants more money when everyone else is getting the same amount, or he flat out wont fight for PRIDE.

I dunno, I like some loyalty myself. I think Benoitrulz is right. Cro Cop has realized that in PRIDE, he'll never win the title, so isn't willing to risk as much. The other three accepted the same exact conditions to my knowlege. It just makes Cro Cop look greedy and petty. Then again, I am a PRIDE fanboy, so I'm biased.

Hope that was a joke, this folder needs Lei. We're like...the only subfolder part of this forum that has any real activity of meaning.

We gotta keep it going damnit.

Of course it was a joke. Lei Tong is my brown brother, even if he hates on Canadians.

I'm sorry if this has already been covered, but since Fedor Emelianenko is out of the tournament, will the GP Champion get a shot at Fedor's strap??

I don't know if anything official has been announced but it's pretty much been a known thing that when Fedor pulled out that the winner of the GP would be his sacrificial lamb on NYE.

Just saw Critical Countdown Absolute, my very first PRIDE show ever. To say I was excited would be accurate, because I really wanted to see Wandy, Cro Cop, Barnett, Hunt and Nog. My thoughts...

- I want to kill the ring announcer at the beginning. He/she sounds like someone is choking her throughout the introduction of all the fighters. Expect an example if we ever do another radio show.

- heh, Frank Trigg on commentary. His entire commentary schtick includes acting as if someone just died after every knockdown.

- Vitor with the KO in 2 seconds. I'd like to see him back in the LHW mix again in the UFC. There's still money to be made.

- Nog was the least impressive in victory out of all the final four, but he was probably in the toughest fight. As I say, I don't know much about any of these guys, but from what I saw, these two were quite evenly matched.

- That Wanderlei Silva video was fucking awesome. The fight was great too. Fujita is a tough mofo.

- I'd only heard about Hunt and Barnett before, and I wasn't sure what to expect. Impressive victory to Barnett, he was money on the ground.

- And then, there's Cro Cop. I saw the sig, and I wanted to see the fight for myself. That guy made me want to learn how to do leg kicks. Damn. I've never seen a guy win a fight purely on leg kicks before.

In summation, I'll definitely be downloading more PRIDE very shortly.

Damn. I'm very interested in Arona/Overreem and Silva/Cro Cop...I hope Aleksander gets beat up. He is a disgrace to his brother. :)
